To feel incredibly sorry for Eddie Izzard

I don't want to pity Eddie but I felt a wave of sadness after reading that Rosie Duffield (MP) said she would rather be arrested than refer to Eddie as a woman.

In a short telephone interview with the Guardian on Thursday, Izzard said she had suffered a “torrent of transphobic abuse” since announcing her candidacy, including being photographed by a gender-critical feminist using the women’s toilet.

Not using it. Entering it through the door, which looks like it was right next to the stage, and the woman photographed it whilst she was still sitting in her seat.

Eddie views women trying to protect their own boundaries as transphobic abuse.

Top tip - when you see "transphobic abuse" read it as "reality".

If they do want a supercharged councillor, there are great people there. But the thing that I bring that is different, is their activism has been local and my activism has been national and international ... Because I have a personality, I am a character, and I am known across the UK and across the world, people will be saying: ‘Eddie Izzard, so tell me about Sheffield. Where is Sheffield?

Eddie has one wish - for sheffield to be as famous as he is.

Did Eddie really say that 😳

Stand aside provincial plebs I'm just so much more important and fabulous than you are.

And just in case anyone is still thinking that Izzard is someone to be pitied, this from a Guardian interview about him wanting to be the MP for Sheffield.

What an absolutely tosser-ish thing to say.

I can feel the good people of Sheffield cringing all the way over here on the other side of the Pennines.

Eddie gets a classic Mumsnet ODFOD for that.

You know what I hate about this post? I hate how it's an attack on Rosie Duffield thinly disguised as kindness and empathy.

that's a really good point. I often like to pose the question the other way round to see what i think, and it would be to feel sorry for Rosie Duffield and women like her who are being coerced into saying things they don't believe.

Goady posts like this really don't help MNs reputation in other places.

Maybe we should have a signal that it's a deliberate thing.

Do you know what I love to bake? Berry Buns. Anyone got any recipes they care to share?

Brefugee · 28/10/2022 11:39

Where is Sheffield?
FUCK THE FUCK OFF EDDIE

haha - it's my home town. I have a related tattoo which is visible. Pretty much evryone correctly identifies the team. And even if they don't see the tattoo usually they answer with something like "Wednesday?" of "Joe Cocker/Pulp/Arctic Monkeys/Bring me the Horizon" or "Jess Ennis" and of course "Sean Bean". And then "steel" or "Orgreave" comes up

The idea that people round the world have no idea where or what it is, is laughable.

3peassuit · 28/10/2022 11:35

I will call Eddie a trans woman but not a woman, there is a difference. I cannot be compelled to call Eddie a woman. As for calling a 60 year old male a girl, just NO!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 28/10/2022 11:34

What's going on outside Parliament?

Mezmer · 28/10/2022 11:33

Just looking at the trans activists outside parliament today. Many are young women. I just keep asking myself why? Exactly how does the trans movement stand to positively influence and enrich their lives? Why do they do it? Out of some misguided sense of sticking up for the underdog? The whole TWAW movement puts them as the underdogs, can’t they see that? I can see why women fall into a state of apathy (don’t want to get involved) But to give up your time to go out and march for the side that is destined in the end to do you most harm is ludicrous.

If (and that's quite an if) Hollywood/netflix etc come knocking do you think he'd put his own self absorbed ego first or Sheffield? Such arrogance to think he can just breeze in and trample over the politicians who have been slogging away campaigning and helping local people for years.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 28/10/2022 11:30

It’s almost like demonstrably being a dick in one area of your life (thinking ‘woman’ is a role play game for example), is a reliable indicator of being a dick about other things

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 28/10/2022 11:28

Where is Sheffield?

FUCK THE FUCK OFF EDDIE

man alive

PoseyFlump · 28/10/2022 11:26

Wow he said that? 😂

Ereshkigalangcleg · 28/10/2022 11:20

Because I have a personality, I am a character, and I am known across the UK and across the world, people will be saying: ‘Eddie Izzard, so tell me about Sheffield. Where is Sheffield?

If I were the other candidates, I'd be putting that quote on my campaign leaflets and flyering every street and letterbox.

Asdavaluesausage · 28/10/2022 11:18

So Eddie will move to Sheffield then? Bet he doesn’t.

Brefugee · 28/10/2022 11:17

that is the most infuriating part of it. They don't need a grandstanding MP. They need someone to tackle their local issues. That is the fucking job.

I know everyone has pretty much challenged the OP effectively, but I still cannot understand, @ColdstreamAnnie , how you can see a highly successful, middle-aged, millionaire transvestite, who has eagerly embraced trans ideology in order to cross dress in public and run for office simultaneously, as someone to pity!

Especially as Eddie is only too well aware that his acting career would go down the swanny if he was trans full time, so is capitalising on the ridiculous, and highly convenient, notion of gender fluidity. There's cake and eating it all over the place.

It doesn't get more privileged.

Is it because you feel sorry for a man who has to wear women's clothing, because why would he, if he didn't have to? Do you see it as punching down? Because there's some sexism to unpick from that. Do you feel sorry for women wearing mens clothing?

Is it because when Izzard sees himself, all dressed up, it's clearly entirely differently to everyone else who's looking at him? And you feel a bit sorry for him on that basis?

Because that is highly characteristic of a lot of men who identify as women later in life. The trans widows threads here attest to that.

Also being pitied isn't always unappealing, to a lot of these men. For many it's all part of it.

Trans ideology really has done a number on some women, when it is the men they feel sorry for, not the women and girls whose rights, spaces, sports and safety are being removed. Even their very name.

As Shon Fay memorably said, I am a woman, even the law says so, enjoy your erasure.

It comes to something when women start to feel sorry for the very people responsible for stripping them of their own rights.

TheKeatingFive · 28/10/2022 10:58

You know what I hate about this post? I hate how it's an attack on Rosie Duffield thinly disguised as kindness and empathy.

Exactly. Rosie's position isn't about Eddie personally, just that she should be legally compelled to tell lies.

And quite how anyone thinks she is wrong about that, I still, absolutely, can't comprehend.

We are talking about legal consequences to telling the truth. How can anyone stand by that? Seriously OP, please enlighten me.

Moonatics · 28/10/2022 10:55

BenCoopersSupportWren · 28/10/2022 07:41

@MNHQ, would you be kind enough to go through AIBU and move all the threads that mention Christmas to the Christmas board, all the threads that mention Harry or Meghan or Charles or William & Kate to the Royald board, all the threads about the new PM to Current Affairs, all the threads about useless / abusive husbands or exes to Relationships, all the threads about not liking dogs off-lead or cats shitting in the garden to the relevant sub-forum in Pets Corner, and so on?

No? Just the threads - including those starting from a very unfeminist position, like this one - that mention a sacred caste that get moved to FWR then?

Gosh, how odd! Why would there be such an inconsistency?? 🤔

On a completely unrelated note, does anyone here remember LangCleg? She was banned for pointing out the mods were the victims of coercive control by malign and non-member external forces (aka “the monitors”). Unfortunately there was a misunderstanding and the mod in question thought he (or maybe she or they, I won’t presume to know how they identify) was being accused of exercising coercive control, and took exception to what they erroneously saw as an accusation of acting abusively.

Anyway, no reason this should pop into my head right now. I miss LangCleg and her knowledge of safeguarding, that’s all.

Well all true, but wasnt lang also into some terrible breakfast mash ups, so I mean it was said that she was banned for her superb knowledge on safeguarding and sacred castes and a misunderstanding. But I'm betting it was the cereal mixed with hushed voice bananas.

Yes I'm joking just in case it isnt clear. I miss her too.

ScreamingMeMe · 28/10/2022 10:43

Why has thiS thread been moved here from AIBU???

Does anyone know what the vote was?

it wouldn’t be so annoying if the vote was at least preserved in the move.

Rather!

How many of those ‘women’s’ officers in political parties or universities have been a woman for more than a few months when they stand for election?

It is a well known route to influence policy making.

Oh yes, for womens officers, they only seem interested in promoting the rights and welfare of a certain type of ‘women’, the male ones.
