To feel incredibly sorry for Eddie Izzard

I don't want to pity Eddie but I felt a wave of sadness after reading that Rosie Duffield (MP) said she would rather be arrested than refer to Eddie as a woman.

Lol it does make me laugh that there’s some crack squad of reporting visitors who start complaining the moment anything on this subject is posted in AIBU

its like some kind of bat signal goes out

Oh yes. We know the lurkers are out there….

Helleofabore · 27/10/2022 21:22

Oh. Another thread on the naughty step. Truth should be hidden.

JellySaurus · 27/10/2022 21:21

OFGS bloody autocorrect!

Is being male and using the women's toilets, boasting about un-nerving teenage girls while using women's toilets, 'decent values'?

SingUsASongYoureThePenileMan · 27/10/2022 21:21

My heart bleeds.

Feel more sorry for the teenagers he terrorised in a single sex space and whose fear he used for part of his act.

Genuine question for anybody who might know- can Eddie actually be listed and elected as a “female” M.P. If elected if Eddie isn’t in possession of a GRC? And if Eddie decided to return or remain to being gender fluid how do we count how many female M.P.s we have representing women in the country? Coz if they can how then do we monitor female representation?

this is one of the issues right now - which of the Labour politicians tweeted earlier about how there aren't any women in the new cabinet? got her arse handed to her because, of course, Labour are having an incredibly hard time actually identifying what a woman is.

Is the sex and/or gender identity of our elected representatives collated in statistics? Should it be? In a perfect world, of course, it wouldn't matter since we would all be striving for equality, in all respects. But it isn't perfect. But now I'm wondering how we know there are female MPs. Maybe they don't feel female but have a female coded name, look like a woman (boobs, maybe long hair and a skirt?) and were AFAB. But maybe they don't identify as a woman but aren't out yet. What does that do to statistics? representation?

Kanye W is always unwell when he has something to promote, I’ve noticed..

or when he goes a bit Nazi

Does he have anything left to promote? I hear he's been cut out of all his fashion deals and quite rightly. My ExH has bi-polar and it's a bastard. I really felt for Kim Kardashian by the end of their marriage.

I don't give a shit how Eddie identifies so I have voted YANBU.
If she's got decent policies and decent values, that's what matters to me
Not quibbling over whether I should be saying he or she ffs

Is being make and using the women's toilets, boasting about in-nerving teenage girls while using women's toilets, 'decent values'?

EatenDorky · 27/10/2022 21:19

(This is my limited grasp of it anyway, I’m sure I’ll upset someone!)

EatenDorky · 27/10/2022 21:18

OP, google Karen White for a starter for 10. This is a brash example of a man being enabled to abuse women just by ‘identifying’ as female. Then you have the athletes who identify as female so they can win stuff (including Eddie by the sound of it). Many women feel that women’s hard fought rights are being eroded and erased by men, again.

The fact here is that gender is a societal construct, ie BS (again, men making the rules up to keep women down). If gender is bol!ocks, then anyone can dress however they like (etc). It’s all irrelevant. But you can’t fundamentally change your sex. Women’s rights should be enshrined irrespective of gender constructs.

Asdavaluesausage · 27/10/2022 21:18

EI has said he wants to be referred to as she/her.

Daily mail

nilsmousehammer · 27/10/2022 21:18

If I identify as an elf will you pander to me and tell me that I am and look at my beautiful pointed ears and elfy magic because it would be sad if you didn't?

For goodness sake. People can identify how they like. They cannot expect others to indulge and enable them while going 'awww bless'. Those who really feel they wish to play those games again are welcome to.

Don't compel anyone and we'll all be fine. And that sets aside that Izzard's very public behaviour on this is offensive and insulting and pretty much intended to be so, so indulging and enabling that would probably mean the Freedom Programme would be an interesting read.

CatSpeakForDummies · 27/10/2022 21:18

It would be exhausting to empathise with people every time someone doesn't agree with them. Fortunately most beliefs are sophisticated enough to understand it's a personal thing and not something other people will validate. Imagine if the Jehovah Witnesses took it to heart every time someone didn't convert?

You can't live putting other peoples delusions centre stage, you can be kind without agreeing. If someone demands they are right, especially when they are actually wrong, then it's okay to bring them back down to Earth. Society wouldn't work otherwise.

Shelefttheweb · 27/10/2022 21:18

And..... it’s been moved to the naughty corner.

Before it moved over 90% voted YABU

Asdavaluesausage · 27/10/2022 21:17

So if Eddie can switch into girl mode by putting lippy and a dress on, why can’t the women in Iran simply switch to boy mode and get out of wearing a veil and being forced into marriage? Bet if EI went to Iran he’d not be in girl mode

Oblomov22 · 27/10/2022 21:17

Why do we even use this new word 'trans'? They aren't new. They are men in drag. 90% of them keep their penis. So why don't we just refer to them as 'men in drag', men who want to dress up as women, but are still men, like we used to?

He's a man though so why would she refer to him as a woman? The world has gone mad with this nonsense, it's refreshing to hear when someone with an ounce of sense speaks up.

Lockheart · 27/10/2022 21:15

Quincythequince · 27/10/2022 21:13

Don’t be obtuse.

He says he’s either a he or a she depending on girl mode or boy mode!

He uses women’s loos - what people call him (and he says he’s relaxed because he’s gender fluid) is neither here nor there.

You/he/we can call him - ze/sir/furry - I don’t give a fuck. But he needs to stay the fuck out of women’s spaces and stop perpetuating the regressive, sexist gender stereotypes - wh oh he isn’t doing.

I'm not being obtuse, rather you are.

RD said she'd rather go to prison than call EI a woman. But he's never demanded to be called a woman, as far as I can tell.

Why start an argument over nothing? There are plenty of other things he and the TRA movement have done that should be focussed on rather than something that has apparently never happened.

mauvish · 27/10/2022 21:15

If you're born with XY chromosomes, brought up as a male, look like a male, have lived most of your life as a male (regardless of clothing) then how the fuck do you "know" what it is to feel like a woman? (sorry, to be in "girl mode"?)

JellySaurus · 27/10/2022 21:14

ColdstreamAnnie · 27/10/2022 20:37

He is gender fluid, I believe.
I suppose I felt sorry for him because I can't imagine how difficult it must be to identify as one gender and have lots of people tell you that you're not.

The reason you can't imagine this is because you cannot enter somebody else's fantasy.

Has it never occurred to you that, just as you cannot imagine what it is like to be Eddie, Eddie cannot imagine what it is like to be a woman?

I feel sorry for EI and anyone who is treated awfully, it's horrible she's had so much abuse over the past couple of weeks. I also really don't want them as my mp, there are some really great, very experienced and local candidates here and i feel annoyed that EI is getting so much coverage.
