To feel incredibly sorry for Eddie Izzard

I don't want to pity Eddie but I felt a wave of sadness after reading that Rosie Duffield (MP) said she would rather be arrested than refer to Eddie as a woman.

OP posts:
bellinisurge · 27/10/2022 21:41

If Eddie doesn't care what pronouns you use for him, why does he think he's entitled to go into women's toilets

keepcalm11 · 27/10/2022 21:41

Why would Rosie or anyone else refer to Eddie Izzard as awoman when he is in fact a man ? Why ?

Brefugee · 27/10/2022 21:37

Don't think it's anything to do with a "naughty" corner, just people see the topic and think FFS

one of the problems of the current debates (ha) about Gender Identity are that many many people simply don't have them. One reason is that a bafflingly large number of MNetters don't identify as feminists, and therefore wouldn't touch the FWR board with a bargepole.

So much discussion around this topic, when it isn't zapped, is just a load of "be kind you evil terfy terfs with your literal genocide of misgendering" and a refusal to engage in any meaningful debate at all. So having this relatively harmless and yet still fairly robust discussion on AIBU would be a good step towards getting those conversations.

Cait73 · 27/10/2022 21:32

@ColdstreamAnnie and yet here you are referring to her as "him"

It's all a bit messed up isn't it

Cailleach1 · 27/10/2022 21:30

PoseyFlump · 27/10/2022 20:50

Can Eddie play the piano?

More importantly can he use his exposed male member to hit against the keys. This is flashing (and possibly a harbinger of more serious future offending), but now men seem to doing their utmost to expose their genitals to women and children and are trying to normalise it. Pretend it is not transgressing any boundary.

Not saying EI has ever done that, as it was that Jordan person who did that on live TV. However, EI has at the very least caused discomfort to women/girls in single sex toilets. And boasted about it as if he was the hero for doing that. Yuck!

ToGanymedeAndTitan · 27/10/2022 21:30

Apparently it's been moved (never noticed what board it was in, it was in active I think when I saw it)

Like Brexit and Covid threads, they tend to invade so have their own space.

Fucks sake. Why can't we discuss AIBU posts in AIBU when the OP was asking for a breadth of opinions?? I know they came across as somewhat naive on the issue, but.....why confine all threads like this to feminism where lots of people who haven't properly considered these issues won't be looking.
Keep us in the box eh? Heaven forbid a wider audience gets to consider these issues.
Fucks me right off MN, what are you so scared of?

👏 👏 👏

Hasn't Eddie said either pronoun is ok though but prefers she? Happy to be corrected if not.

Yes, he did say that.

Genuine question for anybody who might know- can Eddie actually be listed and elected as a “female” M.P. If elected if Eddie isn’t in possession of a GRC? And if Eddie decided to return or remain to being gender fluid how do we count how many female M.P.s we have representing women in the country? Coz if they can how then do we monitor female representation?

this is one of the issues right now - which of the Labour politicians tweeted earlier about how there aren't any women in the new cabinet? got her arse handed to her because, of course, Labour are having an incredibly hard time actually identifying what a woman is.

Is the sex and/or gender identity of our elected representatives collated in statistics? Should it be? In a perfect world, of course, it wouldn't matter since we would all be striving for equality, in all respects. But it isn't perfect. But now I'm wondering how we know there are female MPs. Maybe they don't feel female but have a female coded name, look like a woman (boobs, maybe long hair and a skirt?) and were AFAB. But maybe they don't identify as a woman but aren't out yet. What does that do to statistics? representation?

Yep. This is the crux of it. If we can’t accurately count biological female M.P’s we can’t tell how many M.P’s have similar lived experiences to us. Women are underrepresented in Parliament now and historically.
If the “women” who are in parliament aren’t all in fact women the our representation diminishes.

@Lockheart

I want to be =/= I demand that you call me.

VinoDino · 27/10/2022 21:27

@AmIThatMam Is he coming into the changing room penis first?

Doesn't matter what he's doing with his penis. If he has (or had one, and let's be honest not a lot of men go down that route funnily enough) he has no right to be there. Whether he keeps it nicely tucked in or not.

Brefugee · 27/10/2022 21:27

i think the good news here, regarding the thread, is that some of the earlier posts that got zapped for refering to EI with male pronouns, have now been reinstated as MN determined he's happy with any and all pronouns.
So that's nice

cyclamenqueen · 27/10/2022 21:27

Theeyeballsinthesky · 27/10/2022 21:12

I want to be in girl mode

I want to be known as she/her

understandably this don’t go down well at which point EI towed back & said they didn’t really mind what people used but initially he wanted to be referred to as a woman well girl 🤪

@Lockheart

bellinisurge · 27/10/2022 21:27

Gender fluid? What a load of wanky nonsense

ToGanymedeAndTitan · 27/10/2022 21:26

This!

PoseyFlump · 27/10/2022 21:25

Perhaps it will stop if you pop to B&Q.

Grin I find Wickes a bit more manly than B&Q!

Asdavaluesausage · 27/10/2022 21:25

I wonder if it would have gotten moved if the comments had been agreeing with the OP and praising EI? Might just be me being cynical…

Emotionalsupportviper · 27/10/2022 21:24

ColdstreamAnnie · 27/10/2022 20:37

He is gender fluid, I believe.
I suppose I felt sorry for him because I can't imagine how difficult it must be to identify as one gender and have lots of people tell you that you're not.

Imagine then, what it is like to be a woman and have lots of men the you that you're not as "womany" as they are.

Gender IS NOT SEX.

Sex is biological, identifiable, and immutable.

Gender is a social construct - an expectation in any society of how male people and female people (the TWO SEXES) are expected to behave. It changes from agae to age and varies across cultures.

By all means, smash those gender stereotypes. Let men wear make up and what are considered "women's" clothes if they want to, and similarly for women - but no-one changes sex. It is not physically possible. Ask Lord (Sir Robert) Winston.

@Lockheart "RD said she'd rather go to prison than call EI a woman. But he's never demanded to be called a woman, as far as I can tell.

Why start an argument over nothing? There are plenty of other things he and the TRA movement have done that should be focussed on rather than something that has apparently never happened"

If he has never demanded to be called a woman, why is he going into women's toilets? What kind of man wants to go into women's toilets if he doesn't want to be called a woman?

Good men stay out so bad men stand out

Presumably because he thinks he's a woman (or wants to be). That doesn't mean he's demanded to be called one.

And..... it’s been moved to the naughty corner.

Before it moved over 90% voted YABU

Well spotted. It got moved while I was reading it 🙄

A580Hojas · 27/10/2022 21:23

I think the brave people are those in the public eye who are gender critical. All the abuse and death and rape threats they receive! They are the brave ones.

We've given the little women a little room to discuss these things. I don't understand why they keep insisting on discussing it in public.

Back to the naughty corner girls!
