I just love this woman! She undoubtedly has the Midas touch when it comes to marketing and publicity.

I have been to several of her events over the years, and she has time for each and every woman who comes to see her.

Any other fans here?

Just pausing to reflect that here we are, trying to explain that women are not being offensive to say that men are men, and in looking at the Guardian's disastrous tweet about 'any woman want to share misogyny', have just seen this. This is what emanates from a cesspit of misogyny, this is what the 'other side of this debate' looks like.

Every so often I think I've seen it all. And then I'm physically sickened to discover new depths.

Oh yeah, and, queer theory exists completely divorced from physical reality. Male is more rooted in physical biology. Men should be but isn't under queer law.

'Male people' is silly and male is the adjective here. But completely unnecessary when the word men does the job.

WarriorN · 07/02/2023 08:30

Male and female are definitely nouns but are more scientific / anatomical and obviously include all species.

There are times when the terms are useful in discussions and debates.

I got into a batshit discussion in a breastfeeding group about 'gendered language,' eg 'breast is gendered.' It's not, it's an an anatomical term as males have breasts.

Whereas man refers to humans, the only creature to make and wear clothes. Man does have gendered properties in that we know men rape women. Women need to be protected from men in many circumstances.

Some humans are a bit thick and invest magical properties in clothes whereby they think they're an extension of their sexed body. Man in a dress is more powerful then as male could be a chicken. Man in a furry cartoon outfit.

On that score I watched Benjamin boyce's interview with John Uher (spelling?), who works with men who are convinced of csa and who mentioned that a convicted pedophile introduced him to furries and told him that mothers will hand over their children to anyone dressed up in a fluffy animal suit.

nilsmousehammer · 06/02/2023 20:16

I don't want that in my head or on my hard drive. But I am going to have to, in order to have this to put up every time some absolute fuckwit comes here bleating about women not being naice and kind enough.

Man/woman are nouns and male/female are adjectives, isn’t that right? It is a long time since I was at school. As KJK says the word woman conveys three pieces of information adult, human and female. Male/female is only one piece of information, adult/juvenile and species are left out.

I’m just using the words I have always used in the way I have always used them and aiming to avoid jargon. So I go with man and woman, and man who believes he is a woman or wishes he could be a woman and vice versa. For me there is a relief and sense of freedom in speaking as plainly as I can, even if I end up using more words to do it. I also strive not to be offensive but only to use plain English.

WarriorN · 06/02/2023 16:08

Agree; do think it's contextually dependent.

For some "man" includes all the gender stereotypes. So they can get slightly confused as to who you are talking about esp if unclear on biological elements.

Male and female are more linked to medical contexts (which is v important here) and 'male violence' is a common phrase. So sometimes useful in longer discussions and debates. Especially if the audience or debater isn't sure of all the ins and outs. Or mn.

Saying "that's a man" is though very powerful in visual contexts and definitely was v useful in the prison discussions.

'Men who think / pretend they're women' is also v powerful.

beastlyslumber · 06/02/2023 15:38

There is something so powerful about the truth, though. Saying "that's a man" has an impact that "male person" doesn't. Obviously that's heavily context-dependant.

I try not to get my posts deleted from here, but in real life I try to speak the truth as plainly as I can.

WarriorN · 06/02/2023 13:44

And are more grounded in concrete reality, anatomical terms

WarriorN · 06/02/2023 13:44

I'll use males and male people, especially here as those words are often absent from conversations discussing trans identities.

WarriorN · 06/02/2023 13:43

In her very appropriate rage, KJK actually describes the type of abuse men often do to their female partners but using the police, DARVO.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 06/02/2023 12:31

I put my hand up. I use ‘male people’. Sometimes it is necessary to strip away the confusion that using ‘men’ can cause. And Because I want my words to not be deleted. I could choose to leave MN or I can choose to post with in the guidelines.

Exactly this.

It’s ok though. Because I can support KJK still and disagree with her. 😁

It’s a ‘choose for your audience’ situation at the moment, I reckon!

Amazing photos! Wish I'd been there! Perfect timing for this event - and if there's anyone who knows how to make the most of luck and timing, it's Posie Grin

  • And the one about hiring gunmen to hut trans down?

Was that in the latest video? Or from somewhere else? I was distracted with a vomiting cat so may have missed that one?

I think it was in a Twatter link, I can't see it now.

Posie did a fantastic job in Glasgow. More power to her elbow.
