Boots menopause range

I opened an email from Boots this morning promoting their new No 7 menopause range. Being a woman of a ‘certain age’ I was interested and read it. To be confronted with ‘all people who menstruate will be affected by the menopause at some point in their lives’. My trust in Boots has been seriously shaken by the use of this horrible phrase. Has ‘women’ now become a taboo word except when it includes men who think they are women? 🙄

Menopause laptop.

Actually connects to the work network and tells the external remote IT helpdesk exactly what's wrong and how to fix it - in a middleaged male voice so they hear it instead of laughing at the silly old woman who thinks she knows what file permissions are and what they should be.

£399 + WOT (£74,257.38)

Shortpoet · 25/10/2022 22:14

Lol. New Menopause sellotape.

Like normal tape, but has a special feature that means you can always find the end and not throw it across the room in a menopausal rage.

59p + WOT (£14.95)

(Actual la that sounds quite good. I would buy that)

I had the misfortune to be in Primark today (dd wanted something from there) and I got to feel the fabric of one of the nylon menopause nighties. It was as horrible as I expected.
Not paying the Withering ovary tax on that.

Have I started something here?

NEW! Menopause Toothpicks. Just like normal toothpicks but purple for that SPECIAL TIME in your life where you NEED a little more.

Only £1.89 + WOT (£18.57)

Interesting.

Menopause leggings 10% lycra - £12

Quick glance at 'Performance' leggings 14% lycra - £10

Motivate performance leggings 13% lycra - £8

2 pack Menopause cami tops 10% lycra - £12

Quick look at Stretch Cami top 5% lycra - £1.80

We appear to now have a Withering Ovary Tax to pay on top of the Pink one.

Outstanding.

I would howl with laughter at 'Withering Ovary Tax' if it wasn't so bloody painfully true......plus laughing makes me hot 😂😭

Bring back the Crone, I say.

I want to wither and fade gloriously into my haghood.

ArabellaScott · 24/10/2022 22:14

Ironically, I read the OP as 'Boots Menopause Rage'

A menopause clothing range?

I have to be honest, I really, really don't think this focus on the menopause is going to do women any favours in the long run.

Perhaps Liz Truss was a terrible PM because she was peri-menopausal. Perhaps Theresa May wasn't able to cope with the leadership because she was menopausal. Ooh, better not promote that woman. She's in her fifties and she might find the new job all a bit much, what with the menopause and all.

@EdgeOfACoin Unfortunately, I think this is quite likely to happen. Don't employ young women (they might get pregnant). Don't employ middle age women (they have childcare duties). Don't employ older women (they'll have menopause issues).

Well, clearly we're all incapable of functioning from the age of about 34 because of our ovaries. And they're doing us such a favour in making sure that every man, younger woman and employer knows all about how we're beset by irrational moods, anger, tears, brain fog and an inability to function at all in the workplace, particularly if somebody should be so foolish as to give us a position of responsibility or waste money on training us.

Over a century of trying not to be dismissed as mere animals, simple in word and deed and entirely ruled by our wombs, all going in order to make sure we buy things in purple packaging at an inflated price.

Anybody flogging Menopause sanitary pads yet?

KittenKong · 24/10/2022 20:43

Well, a while back it was a marketing ‘thing’ to sell ‘pink’ items at a premium (ie secateurs).

they’ve been at it for a while. Remember their magazine (Mother’s Day?) when they had ‘inspirational women’ front and centre was male born and another ‘notable’ was ‘non binary’. The others were actually women who had done something…

didn’t they also print in their magazine some nonsense about if you don’t use pronouns you are worse when Gengis Kahn? Then had to delete it because it was stats from a dodgy survey.

WarriorN · 24/10/2022 09:39

I'm in the menopause support network fb group run by Diane Danzebrink who had zero support or hrt following a full hysterectomy when she was younger. She quickly became suicidal. I've found the information invaluable and her YouTube videos / interviews v informative.

She's been posting about the commercialisation of the menopause and how awful it is. She's also just shared this:

https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2022/oct/23/the-new-menopause-market-has-been-well-and-truly-tapped?CMP=ShareiOSAppp_Other

"A piece about menopause wellness in Vogue reported “an untapped market worth an estimated $600bn”"

And

One problem with menopause is the lack of support for its symptoms. But the solution to the bigger problem, that women are not valued after they reach middle-age, is not: “buy 100 products that make you seem younger”. Perhaps a “glow cream” makes one menopausal woman feel better for an evening, but it does not help menopausal women as a whole. In fact, it could be argued that these aspirational products damage them further, by perpetuating the idea that looking young is the answer.

And beyond that, by imposing a pressure familiar to most women, whether navigating motherhood, ageing, sex or work – the pressure to win at it. Or, as a menopausal friend messaged me yesterday, “Do I really have to have a ‘good’ menopause? Can’t I just feel a bit cross?”

The tirade on looks and conformity against women and girls starts at birth and just never stops does it?

WarriorN · 24/10/2022 09:17

Excellent post Fanny.

My dog seems to smell more when on synthetic blankets (fleecy things, micro plastics) rather than natural materials, so why they're making nylon things for menopausal women I have no idea. Other than the next big pink tax.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 24/10/2022 00:26

I haven't forgiven Boots for the International Women's Day feature which had a female: male paticipant ratio of 4:1 (IIRC). So this surprises me not.

Thank you. Link works but apparently everything is sold out 😮

(was looking to see if their sizing was bigger for those menopausal women who can't lose the weight)

FannyCann · 23/10/2022 21:55

Sorry, I tried to archive the full article from my log in but it seems not to have worked. I can screenshot the whole thing if anyone wants to see it in all its glory.

Thought you might be interested in the contribution of The Lancet this week.
Lots of "people" suffering menopause and to cap it all we are told that the "socially dominant menopause group in the U.K." are...wait for it..."cisgender, heterosexual middle aged white women".

I'd love to hear what relevance one's gender (if one has one), sexuality or colour have to do with the menopause. But mostly I think the point of the article is to make sure that young people women going through menopause due to transitioning and messing with their hormones get included in menopause discussions. Personally I think it's appalling that young women are going through a premature menopause as a result of this ideology. Whatever care they need I am sure it differs to the care that most middle aged women going through a natural age related menopause need.

I have been aware for sometime that the Menopause was the next thing to be monetized, As soon as Davina and co started spouting off about it, I realised they were being paid. Little more than snake oil salesman, exploiting women

Shortpoet · 23/10/2022 20:42

WandaWomblesaurus · 23/10/2022 12:11

I know! Who wants nylon nightwear at the best of times?

And thin real cotton nighties nowhere to be found at Primark.

WarriorN · 23/10/2022 20:36

What a waste of money.

The hands down best moisturiser (more for night!) is Vaseline. (Or nipple cream, unless allergic to wool.)

Mlms are jumping on the meno bandwagon.

I’ve just read a post about ‘people’ have been wearing bras all wrong - you can’t make it up! Who’s the majority here?
