I've just seen this on twitter.

Seeing as though mumsnet are their target market, this is very foolish of them.

I don't know, but I don't think you ever see the piano being played with it.

Snort! 😆

nilsmousehammer, I love you! That is priceless. Grin

PriOn1 · 25/10/2022 17:31

I'm part of joules VM team

To be fair to Joules, who did take the flag down after talking to women, there is no proof that this person is actually a representative of Joules.

Lots of women on this thread seem to be assuming that this is a genuine cis member of the Joules team and not a trans member of the Joules team who is simply identifying as one.

Urban outfitters had a pride flag in the window on Friday, by saturday am it had GC stickers on it, by Saturday afternoon the whole lot was down, more agro than it was worth for them I presume!

Nigel is wearing a long-sleeve navy harbour blouse with 'no terfs alloud' embroidered detail.

They has a merino wool snood, worn in the traditional full face cover style with plenty of access space for acnescratches. Trousers by Ill-fitting.

They compliments the ensemble with a Cath Kidston megaphone, original black pampering pampers and an angry-card-board-SloganSign made of 100% recycled ideas.

<cheers for the adjacent stores' successful regain of territory>

Has Blame Gloria opened there yet? Do you think they'll give us tips on how to evict people squatting in spaces that aren't theirs?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 24/10/2022 23:03

It does look like the QE's outdoor seating area (where the store served alcohol!) covers some pavement space that isn't immediately outside their own store window, doesn't it?

I've just had a look on Google maps and there's a photo from 3 months ago, and it looks to me like they've reined themselves in.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 24/10/2022 20:15

At the time, a local filmed the street and speculated that the true problem might actually be that the new occupants of the vacant premises next door would... want the property's storefront back. I can't find the video but this is a photo that seems to show the same thing.

People taking a vacant space when there was no-one to object and then throwing a tantrum when the rightful possessors wanted the space back. Remind you of anything?

If anyone is thinking that the name "Queer Emporium" rings a bell, this may be why:

In a petition which seems to channel Victor Meldrew and Mary Whitehouse, the self-styled protectors of “LGBTQ” youth have made the extraordinary claim that unaccompanied, drunken women might pose a risk to their clientele. The fevered screed threatens that “further legal action” could follow should the council fail to bow to their demands.

Cllr Norma Mackie voiced her disgust in support of the Queer Emporium, declaring with all the outrage of a teetotal Baptist Minister, “It appears to be attracting hen parties with the aim of getting drunk.” For shame! Unchaperoned women on the streets of Cardiff cavorting and imbibing the demon drink. Quick, someone pass the queer-friendly poppers!

***

Apparently unaware that the Queer Emporium might not be considered entirely suitable for children, founder Yan White complained to Wales Online about Blame Gloria, “You wouldn’t put a bar next to a Build-a-Bear so why put this next to us?”

Cutting through the jargon and hype, what is sold at the Queer Emporium is fear — and for youngsters this includes the chance to cosplay being part of an oppressed minority. Cardiff is not populated by monstrous bigots, and there is no great risk to those who are marked out as different. Mary’s, which advertises itself as “an award-winning LGBT+ bar”, is a two-minute stroll away. And yet, the social enterprise styles itself as a refuge or sanctuary in a cruel world full of threats, as a place “where folks are able to be themselves without fear or worry of attack or aggressions”.

How could I forget when a women was dragged to court over a ribbon.

RhymesWithOrange · 24/10/2022 15:57

KatMcBundleFace · 24/10/2022 09:34

I'm sure I remember a massive hysterical breakdown over "safe spaces" when some pebbles painted in suffragette colours, and pro women's rights stickers were left near the route of a Pride rally/march.

If great big suffragette flags had been hanging from every other shop, they'd have expired on the spot!

Let's not forget a woman in Scotland was arrested for the crime of "ribbons", and another woman in Wales was arrested for being in possession of stickers with the definition of "woman".

One side of this debate has a serious case of hurty feelz.

MrsTerryPratchett · 24/10/2022 15:45

Just ignore Marg. Of course Marg doesn't want women talking. And lying in order to make women talking look bad is par for the course. It's the post-Donald Trump internet. Fling shit like a deranged chimp and some will stick.

"Women gathering for a feminist conference are righty complaining about being trolled by retailers, who have no business getting involved in this kind of political messaging."

Are you referring to the recent LGBA meeting? It seems to be equally split amongst men and women, there are photos circulating on Social Media such as this one.

And how can you possibly accuse retailers of accusing gender critical people/LGB-Alliance members of "being trolled" just by putting up an LGBT/trans flag?

I'd much rather live in 2022 where gay and trans people can have rights and marry etc and see flags supporting LGBT people having rights compared to how life was for LGBT people in the not-too-distant past.

Well it’s a pity trans people aren’t so happy to be living in a world where lesbians get to choose who they have sex with.

I’m not actually sure what you support, you seem to be supporting two irreconcilable positions.

read a couple of dystopian novels think about them then come back,

I'm part of joules VM team and I can promise you, this is not part of our display plans. This was a member of the stores decision entirely!

Though I'm sorry to disappoint you all, Im totally all for it! Nothing wrong with supporting trans or lgbtq rights!

Though I'm sorry to disappoint you all, Im totally all for it! Nothing wrong with supporting trans or lgbtq rights!

I see. You have arrived on this board @andpeggy1 with your own set of prejudices about those who reguarly post here.

I think you will find that many on this board absolutely believe that trans people should have their own rights to protect them. And LGB people.

However, since you made such a prejudiced assumption that people don't care here on this board, would you care to tell us whose needs should be prioritised between LGB rights and trans rights when we were told this weekend that women's sports is over represented (in a positive way) by lesbians... yet, that lesbians will then potentially lose their hard fought for sporting places to male with pubertal advantages?

This is just one discussion point. But since you seem so very certain in your admonishment that we would be 'disappointed' that you support the rights of both groups, maybe you can tell us which group has priority when rights clash.

WinterTrees · 23/10/2022 19:14

Putting a trans flag in a shop window in support of trans rights isn't trolling for goodness sake.
Not everything is always about you.

I remember the same argument being made when a billboard was put up in Liverpool saying 'Woman: Adult human female.'

But no, that couldn't be allowed to stand. Had to be taken down, because the male-bodied women didn't like it.

Of course we know not everything is always about women. Even the definition of women, it seems.

And @MargaritaPie , what about the I❤️JKR billboard?

I really think that you never quite get to the point of extrapolating your points past the poorly formed twitter posts you seem to read.

Maybe that is why you seem to be so entrenched without a credible discussion point to post. I mean, didn’t Willoughby post that pic you posted? Willoughby? I have a cervix Willoughby? You let Willoughby do your thinking?

Yet, I can see that could well be true from experience.

CentaureaCyanus · 24/10/2022 11:00

To be honest, Joules choosing to display a flag strongly connected to misogyny and gynophobia in order to ensure women attending a feminist conference nearby know that they are neither welcome or safe in the shop is not the marketing strategy I expected. Still, we live and learn.

Great, you’re all for the following;

  1. forcing women to strip naked next to biological men
  2. shutting down women who voice very real concerns about dignity and safety with threats of violence inc death and rape
  3. stereotyping what it means to be a woman (usually limited to sexual fetishes)
  4. The dehumanisation of women through language
  5. altering statistics affecting womens health care and equality
  6. intimidating women in real life and on line
  7. forcing vulnerable women to include men in prisons, hospital wards (read up about the poor lady who had to fight for a year for someone to agree she was raped after being told she was wrong for a year because a trans person wasn’t a man and therefore she couldn’t have been raped. Womens refuges where women and children are escaping violent men.

By supporting TRAs you are agreeing to all the above (and much more damaging things)

nilsmousehammer · 24/10/2022 10:40

I'm at a loss as to what exactly these false news/political manipulating pictures were supposed to do in damning meetings about women's access and equality?

Is it that lack of people with blue hair and black balaclavas? (Hint: this isn't really typical social behaviour...)

Or are we supposed to notice that they're old and this is supposed to be some kind of negative 'look at the evil' kind of thing? If so, what's the cut off point in age at which point it's fondly imagined that humans switch from 'pure of heart and meaningful to society' to 'subhuman'? 35? 20?

Do those spouting this absolute rubbish really not see how awful it is?

I mean at this point, if you're busy babbling away about 'right side of history' and 'just a lovely flag' and 'just supporting LGBT+ people' (clue, you're not; I'm L, don't you blame me for all this shit and do it in my name)

you need to face that you are supporting a politics that has caused:

  • raped women in prisons
  • denial of health care to a seriously ill woman with major possible consequences to her
  • safeguarding disasters to the point police investigation is seriously being considered, including involvement of those who identify as paedophiles in services for children and actively attempting to change boundaries in a way that would make offenses against children easier and safeguarding children harder

That's just the tip of the ice berg. Are you really, seriously at this point saying that you support this? Because what you are actually supporting in that case is male supremacism/male sexual rights over females and children. Covering your eyes and singing la la la can't hear you at this point makes you culpable .

If you support the above, own it.

If you don't support the above, ffs turn your bloody brain on for a minute and start thinking.

KatMcBundleFace · 24/10/2022 10:08

I really hope people watch videos of the speeches at the conference and see how inappropriate, false and hateful, tweets like this are.

Such a good point. Any thoughts on the contrast, @MargaritaPie ?

And the LGBA conference pic (the real one) showed people from a mixture of ages and ethnicities and both sexes looking happy to be together. Not quite sure what we're meant to be horrified by, perhaps you could supply a hint?
