I cannot think of anything better to say than to quote this tweet by Alice Sullivan:

"You cannot just take off your master and senior tutor hats when sending a message to the college. You remain in post. This implies a corporate view on sex and gender from the institution.

This messaging produces a hostile environment for gender critical staff and students."

but to explain why, we must remember that the “debate” over trans people’s lives is not one between two sides on even footing; rather, this is a debate between trans people on one side and the slaughterhouse on the other.

Hyperbole much?! No one is denying the existence of transpeople, we see you, we hear you and you all seem to be very much existing still. Be proud to be transwomen, but you're not women and can't use our single sex spaces. Ask for your own spaces please.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 07/11/2022 18:52

that article!

So-called gender-critical feminism in reality consists of a collection of thought-terminating clichés designed to halt any inquiry into the nature of sex and gender before it begins. Rather than seeking to find answers to the challenges posed by transgender people’s existence to a normative understanding of gender

Victoria I'm fucking busy doing lady stuff. can you just explain to me how a chap wearing a dress and saying it makes him a woman challenges normative understanding of gender in any way? there's a poppet

IcakethereforeIam · 07/11/2022 18:30

Not mellowed then, I hope they'd be happier as their authentic self. I wouldn't want my happiness to be dependent on validation and capitulation from strangers, all the strangers.

If they're strangers I'd rather not give a toss what they think.

I hope Victoria went to the demo., got some fresh air and exercise.

TheBiologyStupid · 07/11/2022 18:23

Didn't Dave Polworth (sp?) in Robert Galbraith's (aka J K Rowling) Troubled Blood advocate for Cornish independence? I wonder if that's related to the vote on St Piran's flag.

Apparently from a graduate!

I couldn’t even get to the end of that article, it was like an AI had taken 20 articles from Pink News and merged them into one turgid self pitying word salad.

KatMcBundleFace · 07/11/2022 18:18

So they couldn't get enough votes to fly the pride flag.

And St Piran’s Flag beat the trans flag.

Lol, bad democracy bad.

IcakethereforeIam · 07/11/2022 18:17

And this

www.varsity.co.uk/comment/24498

Well, despite their best efforts the talk happened and, guess what, nobody died.

TheBiologyStupid · 07/11/2022 18:16

We couldn’t even get a talk cancelled on home turf), but to explain why, we must remember that the “debate” over trans people’s lives is not one between two sides on even footing; rather, this is a debate between trans people on one side and the slaughterhouse on the other.

FFS! A graduate?!

Interesting, thanks Mynewchairhasarmrests.

Mynewchairhasarmrests · 07/11/2022 17:58

It appears that not everyone at Caius feels as ‘Andrew and Pippa’ do.

Did anyone attend the event last night? How was it?

Universities are increasingly money making machines processing large volumes of hugely privileged and entitled foreign students.

RealFeminist · 22/10/2022 08:17

ControversialOpening · 21/10/2022 10:47

This is a Pontius Pilate move.

Pippa and Andrew know they cannot get away with banning the talk but they are terrified of the TRAs, so they are washing their hands.

They are weak and they don't want anyone to hate them. What they will soon discover is that now EVERYONE will hate them.

THINK OF SCOTLAND AS THE PILATE FOR SELF ID

JoodyBlue · 21/10/2022 18:26

@nauticant the strongest and most vocal pushback in trying to argue against the poor treatment of JKR has been from proud parents of young women of high academic ability who have "educated" them in the new feminism, including the slating of Germaine Greer. It seems to me to be the wrong way round. Parents might responsibly stand up to explain why a feminist might be grateful and indebted to someone like Greer.

My particular concern though, is for all of those young people who cannot stand up for reality in their universities on pain of complete social annihilation. Adults should stand for their right to speak the truth. Those who don't and in positions of power like these 2 muppets at Caius are really failing the majority of their students in my view.

TheKeatingFive · 21/10/2022 18:04

Pippa is an immensely privileged female who clearly couldn't give two fucks about the vulnerable women who get screwed over by the ideology.

The victims of rape and domestic violence, the disabled, the orthodox religious, the women prisoners - she has no interest in them whatsoever. That'll never be her. Who cares?

Why take their side when she could be a faithful handmaiden for the woke bros?

MrSand · 21/10/2022 17:05

young up-and-coming female academics in STEM subjects who are very much on board with gender identity ideology

I think this is because women who aren't on board with genderist views tend to avoid the whole topic (for obvious reasons), so the distribution of women who express an opinion is very skewed.

nauticant · 21/10/2022 16:58

I'm struck by the number of young up-and-coming female academics in STEM subjects who are very much on board with gender identity ideology. My impression is that the more promising their background+trajectory, the stronger the adherence.

I'm aware that I might be subject to selection bias and most are not on board but know to keep their heads down and the only voices I hear are those strongly pushing the ideology.

JoodyBlue · 21/10/2022 15:52

Acadmic talent appears not to protect the young from incoherent ideas like genderism. Having 5 daughters in the current climate is more likely to sway one towards the cultural zeitgeist than critically away from it.

GiantKitten · 21/10/2022 15:49

Pippa has five daughters 🤷🏼‍♀️

I want to know, what is it about elite female education that it seems to erase all compassion for the other members of your sex?

I think this is interesting and talked with friends who have been in the Oxbridge "system" from age 18 or so. Young women aware of the honour and prestige of a place to study at an elite institution seem, at least historically, to have been made keenly aware of that fact. Very aware of the need to toe the line and as one progressed up the hierarchy to be continually available for work and agility of reponse etc that doesn't sit well with child bearing/raising. Jobs in academe reliant on grant awards and publications and therefore insecure. I think I am saying loss of touch with the real world because so far removed really. I've been an observer of this rather than a participant, but has always seemed to me to be a case of "if you can't beat em join em". The group in question being the elite academics with a certain way of doing things who require line toeing. The worry is that the new cohorts will similarly coerce their direct reports into line toeing with regard to coerced beliefs in the future.

EsmaCannonball · 21/10/2022 14:27

That right to sex argument summed it all up: use poor women as human shields to protect rich women from rape. That's the intersectionality they don't want to discuss: the fact that when they talk about sex work and surrogacy it's never women from their group who are going to be providing the outsourced labour. (Not that I at all buy that horrific old argument that prostitution prevents rape. Ugh.)

As for Pippa and Andrew, aren't they a sinister pair? They may as well have taken people aside and said, 'I'm warning you as a friend, not as your boss. But I am watching you.'
