I feel quite sick at this.

She was stunned then to receive an email from the hospital's chief executive Maxine Estop Green telling her the operation was off.

She told her the hospital 'did not share her beliefs' and she should make alternative arrangements for her surgery.

The message added the hospital was committed to protecting staff from what it described as 'unacceptable distress'.

Emma urged them to reconsider, adding in a further message she thought they had misunderstood her requests, which she said were entirely within the law.

The hospital said it would offer a private room but would NOT facilitate her requests for single-sex care after her operation.

It also mentioned her comment about pronouns and said it had a responsibility to protect staff from 'discrimination and harassment'.

@DaughterofDawn I completely understand. I wasn't meaning to come across as smug about my beliefs, and its actually shocking that you're expected to be ok with all this just because you're no longer Christian. I'd say it's worse in a way. The only reason that some TRAs accepted religious womens needs for same sex spaces is because the boundaries were already there, set by the religion, rather than the individual woman.
Now THAT'S patriarchy.
In the male nurse situation, I'd feel more distressed about my lack of dignity, than the bloke breaching my religious beliefs, if that makes sense.

That’s okay. I didn’t get that vibe. I guess really I was just venting frustration really. There have been times I felt pressured to lie about my religious views but that is also a losing situation as pagans aren’t a recognized religion in canada yet and we are currently fighting for legal recognition as a valid religious community. 😩 But I think it is stupid to have to lie to get respect. If someone is not comfortable just respect their boundaries! It shouldn’t be hard to understand! Why do we have to be religious to get that respect!

Well someone sounds confused!
I’m a pretty conservative Christian. I was a virgin until my marriage, I’d never been undressed in front of a male I wasn’t related to and I wouldn’t deliberately be on my own with males I’m not related to.

I have however been under the care of a male gynaecologist, but that was due to necessary. I certainly would request female nursing rather than male, mainly due to safety and dignity rather than my beliefs!

I’d say by forcing me to accept a male nurse to wash my arse, that would be stripping me of my autonomy and my freedom, far more than my beliefs ever have.
I’m happy in my beliefs. I have a loving stable marriage where my husband respects and loves me. I have a loving community with every support you could want. My beliefs have enabled me to live in peace, dignity and safety. No religious system is perfect and lots have been used by evil, manipulative MALES, to twist them to suit themselves.

As a female, I feel far more restricted by my vulnerability to dangerous males in public, than I do by my religious beliefs.

The only peak-cocking going around on this thread is from you, @landOFconfusion .

@CuriousEats I agree with you. But I am also an ex christian but I was raised very conservative and the only man I’ve been naked around is my husband. I feel it is sad and unfortunate if a woman suddenly loses those rights and expected to be nude around males and have their vagina washed by them just because she is now secular or in my case pagan. Which it seems here in canada that is a strange expectation…?

There’s an attitude that “oh well she’s an upright christian. It’s disappointing but expected of her. But we expect secular women to KNOW BETTER.” But my feelings on this really haven’t changed. I still only want to be seen naked by my husband. A dress, a wig and a name tag that says sarah aren’t going to make me suddenly more comfortable being naked around a man.

There is a difference and I would be very distressed and upset by it. I was seen by a male OBGYN during an emergency delivery but he was very sensitive to my needs and apologized that he was the only one available. That made a very big difference to me. My husband was right there holding my hand and my doula and midwives were over seeing the entire thing. I felt comfortable knowing there were other women in the room. It does matter and it will never stop mattering to me.

I hope you have dropped in on this thread since. An absolutely sterling example of this phenomenon has been in residence!

No, I'll go and have a catch up. See if I can spy this specimen of hypocritical bigotry...

Gosh, MNHQ really needs to rethink that ‘search by username’ function, lest they be arrested for aiding and abetting all this alleged stalking!

Oh god! It’s a Hate Site that promotes stalking!

i didn’t know what I was getting involved in when I started lurking for baby led weaning tips and potty training advice!

Lumos is a great charity if anyone fancies it 👍

Agreed! I support them as well :)

TastefulRainbowUnicorn · 26/10/2022 18:09

And what was even better, I just remembered their posts and went and found them without looking them up.

Oh no, I think I will probably end up being a "stalker" too by these standards. 🕵️ If they don't want to be remembered they shouldn't have such an appropriate username! Or should at least tone both the absurdity and the rudeness down an notch.

Shocking! That we can remember such things. Because I was rather horrified by someone victim blaming Fred Sargeant and I remembered the snide derision of the abortion thread the poster started.

It looks like staking means “reading public posts on a public message board and being able to remember names” - they’re not the only poster who thinks this.

Helleofabore · 26/10/2022 16:28

I am curious though what constitutes vile personal abuse? From a poster who called me their stalker on a thread a week or so ago.

Seems rather hypocritical that they feel they can make these accusations.

(But again, once you work out the pattern, it is unsurprising. Remarkable but unsurprising.)

I too take donations in lieu of apologies.

Bayswater support, please.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 26/10/2022 15:33

I'm going to take this opportunity to thank Land's OF for the spontaneous and unrequested lawncare advice. Unfortunately, I couldn't accept it in the generous spirit it was meant, because I couldn't be arsed to do gardening this weekend.

I am happy to report that my poor neglected lawn also accepts charitable donations in lieu of apologies, and here is a thread of approved recipients.

Pointing out that someone’s argument is crap is not personal abuse

Presumably this nonsense idea came from the same source as ‘misgendering is literal violence’!

Wow, I’m not quite sure how you got that from the post you responded to. But thanks for pointing out that I am right about everything and am both the official victim and the official winner of this thread, neener neener. (I know this is what you really meant because I’m a monumental narcissist.)

I don’t accept charitable donations in lieu of apologies but you can PayPal me for my emotional labour, everyone. Cheers!

We almost need a button for ‘buy that poster a drink!’ for the amount of emotional labour we do here.
