I feel quite sick at this.

She was stunned then to receive an email from the hospital's chief executive Maxine Estop Green telling her the operation was off.

She told her the hospital 'did not share her beliefs' and she should make alternative arrangements for her surgery.

The message added the hospital was committed to protecting staff from what it described as 'unacceptable distress'.

Emma urged them to reconsider, adding in a further message she thought they had misunderstood her requests, which she said were entirely within the law.

The hospital said it would offer a private room but would NOT facilitate her requests for single-sex care after her operation.

It also mentioned her comment about pronouns and said it had a responsibility to protect staff from 'discrimination and harassment'.

She didn’t ask for that though. She asked for female nursing aftercare which is entirely reasonable and would represent a tiny percentage of the team. One nurse per patient in ICU. And she did that only after a trans woman entered her room during an examination and locked eyes with her in a way that made her feel intimidated. No one just walks in accidentally during intimate exams.

nilsmousehammer · 20/10/2022 19:50

The man who barged in on her intimate procedure should be hauled over the coals not pandered to.

Considering the employee who did this came into the room when an intimate procedure was in progress, made sure to look long enough to make eye contact with the patient, and then left without comment or apology or any indicated reason for being in the room and at that point may have known this patient did not want care from a male who wished her to enact a belief of their being a woman?

It has to be considered from a safeguarding point of view that this may have been intentional harassment/intimidation rather than a mere blunder.

Except that isn't what she asked for @Strangeways19 and @FixTheBone. But don't let that you stop throwing women under the bus

Have read the correspondence fully. She wanted all female care that she makes very clear. She says only with prior agreement will she want a male in her room. This is going to be pretty much impossible in such a busy environment.

I know this thread has moved on since this was brought up, but seriously, the general public are not going to accept a survivor of sexual abuse wanting female intimate care as analogous to being a racist.

Indeed, it's completely nonsensical gaslighting.

beastlyslumber · 20/10/2022 19:37

Yes, Posie Parker.

Has the Baroness' tweet been deleted?

They would rather women die than hurt a mans feelings. The man who barged in on her intimate procedure should be hauled over the coals not pandered to. Women's rights and basic safeguarding is being ripped up so men can have more rights and privileges.

In a nutshell.

I'm going to disagree with the majority here.

Does anyone actually know how many people would be involved in that care episode?

Probably over 100.

How on earth can the hospital guarantee that not a single male will be involved in her care? She could be in hospital for over a week depending on the procedure - what? change all the rotas so there's no male doctors, nurses, porters, radiographers, physios, pharmacists just for one person?

Madness.

Yes I agree with you here.

to refuse to see a professional based on their gender alone.

This is bollocks even by TRA logic surely?

According to TRA logic, transwomen share a “gender” with women, and she’s not refusing intimate care from women so how is it based on “gender?” It’s based on sex. Duh.

Alright..."duh"... what a way to make a point.

It might have been worth meeting the CEO as the CEO requested in their correspondence to try to solve the issues. No-one really wants to go to court or independent bodies without trying everything to resolve the issues. Stress

What have you listened to? What is PP?

Posie Parker?

But why would this have any effect on hospital policy?

It would be like telling patients that because one of the surgeons is a devout Christian, they won't treat atheists or people of other faiths unless they convert to Christianity first.

It shouldn't that is the whole point. But if the senior staff are all captured, because of their colleague and thought this woman was a TERF they would think the woman was in the wrong.

beastlyslumber · 20/10/2022 18:28

Just listening to PP - she's been in touch with the woman. Apparently female staff in the hospital are terrified of this man. It sounds like there's more revelations to come.

'Reframe your trauma/surgical need' will be along any minute.

The mental gymnastics some will go to in order to compel females to validate male people's identity choices by providing access to their body.

No. Males are welcome to frame their identities in any way they like. Females are equally entitled to not participate in their identity and to follow their own perceptions.

TastefulRainbowUnicorn · 20/10/2022 18:17

Some knobhead on Baroness Nicholson’s Twitter is mansplaining that an all female nursing team is a patient safety issue. FFS!

I think it might be because it included the woman's full name. She appears to have written several letters and the others are still on her Twitter profile.

That might be the reason it's gone. It was addressed to the company who owns the hospital, so a layer up.
