I feel quite sick at this.

She was stunned then to receive an email from the hospital's chief executive Maxine Estop Green telling her the operation was off.

She told her the hospital 'did not share her beliefs' and she should make alternative arrangements for her surgery.

The message added the hospital was committed to protecting staff from what it described as 'unacceptable distress'.

Emma urged them to reconsider, adding in a further message she thought they had misunderstood her requests, which she said were entirely within the law.

The hospital said it would offer a private room but would NOT facilitate her requests for single-sex care after her operation.

It also mentioned her comment about pronouns and said it had a responsibility to protect staff from 'discrimination and harassment'.

Oh don't worry there are plenty of other examples; over on another thread Donna says discussions about a child sex abuser are transphobic if the convicted abuser identifies as a trans person.

I'm disappointed that donna's post was deleted. It was an instructive example of the kind of thing that TRAs try to pass of as logic.

That's not putting it in perspective. That's spouting racist obfuscations. Sex crimes are almost always committed by men. Not always but almost always. It is NOT the case that most sex crimes are committed by Muslims or Asians. Neither is there a dignity issue. This is the sort of nonsense which is used to distract from important conversations. You're not drawing a parallel. There is no parallel.

Yep. 99% of sex offenders are male. I've never seen a TRA with a decent rebuttal to that statistic.

I'd like to introduce you to something called "reading comprehension". It's when you read the words that are actually on the page, not the ones you wish were there.

Not one person on this thread has claimed that women never commit violent or sexual offences. We have said that they commit them far less often than men. A man is between twenty and fifty times more likely to sexually assault you than a woman is, and he can leave you pregnant whereas she cannot. One infanticidal female nurse does not change this.

What Lucy Letby does show is that no one should be considered above suspicion and all safeguarding concerns should be followed up robustly. There should be no sacred caste of people that get their own way all the time and that people are too scared to accuse.

There should be no circumstance under which a good faith whistleblower should be forced to apologise or be in any other way punished for flagging inappropriate behaviour. Like how, for example, Teresa should not have been punished with the cancellation of her life-saving surgery for raising her concern about a male HCP walking into her consultation without permission

It should always be OK to question why a particular HCP is behaving the way they do. Like, for example, it should be OK to ask why a male HCP insists on giving intimate care to a woman who has specifically requested female-only carers.

Oh bless, DonnaritaPie. You have the critical thinking skills of a fricking banana.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 19/08/2023 00:02

Very typical of these people though.

IcakethereforeIam · 19/08/2023 00:00

Really!? Not happy with making excuses for a child abuser, you're using this to 'own the terfs'.

that's vile

It gives me strong vibes of this Shona Robison quote.

Oh my god, I never saw that before. Wow. A five year old who’s read Red Riding Hood is smarter than that.

MsRosley · 18/08/2023 10:32

Now that GC views are protected under the law, how is this legal? Surely she can sue for discrimination?

I doubt she'd have enough self awareness to cringe TBH.

Are you really suggesting a man would take all the trouble to become a Dr/Nurse and a transwoman just to commit a sex offence on a patient?

The law allows for single-sex exemptions but not same-race exemptions for personal care because race and sex are completely different things. How racist do you have to be to think it's OK to claim that having black skin is comparable to having a cock and balls and the ability to forcibly impregnate another person?

Just to gain access to women and children to molest, men have:

  • become London black cab drivers, requiring the memorisation of "The Knowledge" of hundreds of landmarks and routes, a feat that alters their brain structure, and taking a series of tough exams.
  • Started charities.
  • Taken on TV and music careers.
  • Taken advantage of their position as police officers and doctors.
  • Become teachers.
There is a distressingly common pattern of sex offenders transitioning in prison and requesting transfer to the female estate, with at least one reported case of detransition after release, pretty much proving that that prisoner was only transitioning to gain access to female prisoners. So why is faking gender reassignment and also getting a qualification so far-fetched to you? Especially as, in the current climate, transwomen have become untouchable in many institutions because everyone fears being accused of transphobia if they voice a safeguarding concern. Far from being unlikely, it's probably the most reliable way right now for a male to molest and get away with it.

How is that false analogy "putting it into perspective"?

Because they read it on the internet and they, personally, found it a compelling gotcha. And likely no one on that platform that wasn’t designated as a hater pushed back on it. So they thought to give it a spin here because they believed it was so great.

Why would that be an effective analogy?

If you were going to make a racial analogy, it would be like someone of an ethnic minority, traumatised by years of racial abuse, requesting that they were cared for by someone who wasn't white. You have heard of institutional racism, right? People from marginalised backgrounds have poorer health outcomes because staff don't treat their symptoms with the appropriate gravity.

Did you know that one study found that black newborn babies in America were more likely to live if they had a black doctor? In the UK, black pregnant women were found to be five times more likely to die of childbirth complications than white pregnant women.

You're totally right. We should do away with DBS checks for doctors and nurses in that case.

🙄

Some doctors and nurses have raped their patients, sexually assaulted their patients, in some cases have filmed themselves actually doing that to their patients, and have even murdered their patients. What a ridiculous comment.

Also, 'all the trouble' of becoming a transwoman'? What trouble, slapping some fucking lipstick on?

Then that would be racist. It has already been dealt with on this thread. Perhaps you should read the thread.

She wasn’t racist. She wasn’t transphobic and she wasn’t hateful. Your comparison fails at the first hurdle.

Between 13-10 years ago I was a nurse in a private hospital's cardiac unit, so lots of tests involved exposing women's breasts and the procedures where done from the groin.

Everyone's was expected to treat patient's dignity as a top priority. In fact we had a patient request single sex care unfortunately the surgery she was having was done by a male but what he arranged was for the part that is most distressing/ intimate the placing of a catheter into the artery close to your groin was done by a female consultant the patient was then fully covered up and he took over.

In all the years that I worked both in the NHS and private care not once did anyone bat an eyelid at a request for single sex care.

Private hospitals are really used to caring for Muslim woman we often had members of Arab royalty in the hospital so single sex care was planned and catered for.

It's absolute nonsense that a hospital would struggle to meet this kind of request and if they truly did then it's a pretty poorly managed hospital.

Let's also not forget most nurses are women so there's hardly going to be a shortage of female staff to provide it.

Hear hear

<Waits for yet more whataboutery and gaslighting>
