🖐🖐🖐 hey Olli!

GeriSignfeld · 18/10/2022 10:42

Well Ollie London just tweeted:
"Keep Womens Only Spaces for WOMEN!
I lived as a trans woman for the past 6 months before my Detransition yet despite my identity I fully respected Womens Only Spaces and would also use mens changing rooms/rest rooms.
WOMEN should always feel safe!"

Is it possible Ollie reads Mumsnet or is this a coincidence ?
😄

Yes, exactly. If "being Korean" meant living a life like Korean people do, he would move to South Korea, learn the language, get a job, take part in society as much as he could. But he doesn't want to "be Korean" he wants to look Korean. All he cares about is the image; the image is everything. It's just the same with transwomen - there's fuck all TW who are transitioning in middle age and taking on the role of looking after elderly parents, suddenly reducing their working hours to fit in school runs, doing all the mental load of the household. All their efforts in "being a woman" are centred around clothes, make-up, handbags, massive fake tits. Again, image is everything. It's such a stupendously superficial outlook. I look, therefore I am.

The very definition of appropriation. Cherry picking the best bits and leaving the shit and toil for those actually living the reality.

rabbitwoman · 18/10/2022 06:59

Whatever ollie london's motivations were, I would like to know :

Was he able to use women's changing rooms or loos with impunity whilst identifying as a woman?

Was he able to take a place on a woman's sports team? In a woman's hospital ward? Refuge?

And then revert to being a man?

THIS is what we bloody well mean!!! Whether he was taking the piss or not, our facilities would have been handed to him on a plate!! All we want is a process by which to prevent this shit show from happening.....

Blister · 18/10/2022 06:58

To be fair, we all do things for attention and money.
Having a survival instinct isn't wrong.

Damaging yourself in order to survive or come to terms with yourself, is the extreme here.

picklemewalnuts · 18/10/2022 06:49

He started out as a mega fan, using himself as an homage to Korean beauty.

He got a bit obsessive about it- not unusual with body mods. I'd say he started to get unwell round about then.

The whole 'I identify as Korean' thing was an offensive add on.

By the time he started the 'woman', I think he was messing about. Perhaps recovering from his previous mental health problems.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 17/10/2022 23:00

There used be a clothing shop called Oli London. Sort of like Asos. I hoped it would be about that.

He first came on my radar when he was doing the whole 'I'm Korean' thing. The 'Im a woman' passed me by. I have no idea what he did before all this stuff, but he's always struck me as mentally unwell (I mean - Korean? Really?).

bobbinon · 17/10/2022 20:10

He also talks about being himself when he's so clearly trying to be everyone else...! That's when I wonder if he's does it all deliberately!

bobbinon · 17/10/2022 20:09

Can't work out if he's very clever or total troll.

He made excellent points in a very relaxed way that seemed very genuine about irreversibility. If he's clever it's all been a planned stunt to make a point.

TheGreatATuin · 17/10/2022 12:46

I don't think he is trolling, not with that level of plastic surgery. Although what on earth he is doing I have no idea. I suspect he's quite unwell.

GeriSignfeld · 17/10/2022 12:02

When I watch him, think of Rachel Dolzeal sitting at home fuming

& the Korean popstar he's trying to emulate taking extra steps to tighten his security.

Think he did live in Korea, teaching English and speaks a bit of the language

But not anymore?

However yes about the surgery. He doesn’t look remotely Korean. I’m not suggesting that if he did that would mean anything anyway, but I’m amazed that what he’s had done was meant to look Korean because it doesn’t.

The irony is if he was really that into being Korean, he could presumably go and live in Korea, learn the language and apply to become a citizen. It’s not about being Korean, but about changing the body as a response to unhappiness.

I saw an interview with him where the interviewer asked “why not just be yourself” (or words to that effect) and Oli openly said something like oh no, I hate being myself. It was an interesting glimpse into the appeal of identity politics - it’s so often about trying to escape the self and a sense of self-loathing, rather than being a “true self” despite all the “true self” rhetoric.

I thought it was unusually honest and self-aware of him to say that though.

Really interesting (and sad!)

Was Oli accepted as a TW for the period of transition? Did Oli believe Oli to actually be a woman at that point?

Know of him from appearances on Botched.
very much an attention seeker
cant forget him wandering around with a life sized cutout of Jimin from BTS. And all the plastic surgery which he delude himself makes him look Korean. No, it doesn’t. He will never appear Korean because you he is not Korean. He is a parody.
he tried to release a record, but he can’t sing and he can’t dance.
looks like he will do anything for attention and money

ReunitedThorns · 17/10/2022 10:31

Another victim of the affirmation no questions asked medical model.

It's pretty obvious that he has some issues, yet surgeons and medics are ready to ignore it. But this is the same of Michael Jackson.

The lack of safeguarding is particularly dangerous to people with mental health issues (who are clearly not in the correct state of mind).

NancyDrawed · 17/10/2022 10:15

I have been aware of Olli London for a little while and felt that he was very unwell and therefore vulnerable.

I think he looks better on this video than any other I've seen - as in more healthy -both mentally and physically. I hope he makes peace with who he is, all this swapping about must be exhausting.

And he's spot on with the message to slow down and not rush into things that are irreversible. I hope he's okay.

ChlorineChris · 17/10/2022 10:11

I wonder if the individuals will look back in incredulity at their own behaviour in the own lifetimes tbh.

Surely, for all of us, if we are lucky enough to reach an old age, there comes a point where extensive cosmetic surgery will be something that no longer has impact as intended etc.

Definitely trolling. Think he's wandered into something, realised it's a bit daft but people take it very seriously, and is now just playing.

While keeping a career of sorts active.

In years to come I can see mainstream society looking back with absolute incredulity at this period of human history. The counter arguments will like be "but what about x,y and z new things which are just as insane" and "to be fair, it was an all-time great period for performance art, a form of art which was taken to whole new dimensions, not simply whole new levels."
