Good for her but my god
You seem to need a host of excellent legal teams at your disposal?

I truly think the world has gone mad .

Brilliant! I suggested a UK tour of all the libraries hosting Drag Queen Story Time sessions, but got deleted for something I jokingly struck through. First deletion of mine (that I'm aware of) - not sure if it comes with a certificate or anything....

I think Julie Blindel should put this issue to bed and book another meeting at the library. Perhaps this time specifically about Women's Rights 😀
Dare them to refuse the booking.

It's being planned

Under what protected characteristic are drag queens covered?

landOFconfusion · 10/10/2022 22:15

This is excellent news.

This ruling will help to affirm the right of libraries to continue hosting Drag Queen Story Hour despite objections from Daily Mail readers and other assorted morons.

Yes. I'd attend.

That's a completely different issue to NCC trying to ban free speech in a public place. They are incorrigible though, hence the reason I would never work for them again.

I would say that the two issues are very much linked - how much of NCC's reaction to Julie speaking at a Nottingham library is bound up in wanting to toe the Stonewall line?

Ticking Stonewall's boxes via pronouns in emails or silencing voices deemed "transphobic" seem to be two cheeks of the same arse.

KatMcBundleFace · 10/10/2022 09:50

Healy seems no stranger to controversy.....

FemaleAndLearning · 10/10/2022 09:29

Wow! This from the article.
"A few days after the carpark debacle, an email was forwarded to me from Cllr Rosemary Healy in response to a complaint about the cancellation:

“We cannot grant a platform to a public figure who has repeatedly expressed transphobic views. Not only are Ms Bindel’s past statements incredibly hateful to the trans community; she has also demonstrated homophobic and biphobic views in the past that we take issue with.”"

Birdsweepsin · 10/10/2022 08:48

Let this be a lesson to all councils...

Thats not a real apology. Thats a mardy 14yr old I don't want to say sorry but I want to see my mates at the weekend apology Angry

That sounds like Nottingham City Council.

This is interesting. I’ve NC for this but I work for NCC. We’re currently working on our submission for the Stonewall charter. On the date of this agreement (23/09) a message went up on our intranet ‘encouraging’ pronouns in signature and an email the following week so I wouldn’t take this as a win just yet.

IcakethereforeIam · 08/10/2022 00:09

And the tras wouldn't have been as gracious as Julie, you can never grovel hard enough.

LangClegsInSpace · 07/10/2022 23:34

Yes, the difference is striking. They'd be grovelling hard if the TRA as much as objected to a tweet.

JB was denied service by a public authority.

SuperCamp · 07/10/2022 23:09

The 'procedurally unlawful' thing is weird. Clearly this was discrimination on the grounds of belief.

Clearly.

But they carefully fail to apologise for the discrimination.

Compare their ‘apology’ to the usual ‘for hurt caused / for the harm we have done / we will do better’ hair shirted hand wringing that goes on after an accusation of transphobia.

LangClegsInSpace · 07/10/2022 22:45

The 'procedurally unlawful' thing is weird. Clearly this was discrimination on the grounds of belief.

It's possible for something to be procedurally unlawful, e.g. the difference between unfair dismissal and wrongful dismissal - if you're shit at your job it might be fair to dismiss you but if your employer doesn't follow correct procedure you can still claim wrongful dismissal.

Possibly in this case Nottingham have first accepted that they didn't follow their own procedure, and if they had done so this error would not have been made, and here's a remedy so no point arguing further. And JB has accepted that because here is a remedy. That's fair enough, it would have been very costly for both sides to go to court and judges get pissed off if people escalate to court when a reasonable settlement is already offered.

I think she could have held out for some compensation on top of costs though.

FemaleAndLearning · 07/10/2022 22:33

It's a win for commonsense, let's hope it doesn't happen again. Is it me or does this imply the original booking form was not filled in correctly or fully- hence the procedural error?
by way of a fully completed booking form, the Council will make a fresh decision in response to such request upon a lawful basis.'
