Long twitter thread here. She's had her electronic devices seized too, and has been accused of being certain posters on Kiwi Farms and Mumsnet

@BernardBlacksWineIceLolly and @BreakWindandFire sorry to tag you but she's been accused of being you!

We all know who this will be, but as Caroline says, please don't speculate/discuss them.

This is horrendous and absolutely terrifying. Poor Caroline. Is this really the world we are living in today? A modern day Salem or a police state where you can be arrested for wrong think?

thirdfiddle · 04/10/2022 09:04

Saw her thread on twitter. I hope faircop are onto it because it's a disgrace. "Fortunate" in a way they pick on someone who has literally nothing to hide and nothing hidden. But poor Caroline! They are not actually entitled to break into her house without a warrant are they? She ought to be able to sue or something. I hope she's got her devices back (but doubt she has).

TastefulRainbowUnicorn · 04/10/2022 09:00

The police should be utterly ashamed of how they’re being used here. Not for the first time.

I hope this can be the catalyst for a sorely needed inquiry into how harassers and abusers weaponise the cops against women.

Treaclemine · 04/10/2022 09:00

There's obviously stuff going on which I have missed.

  1. I thought police had right of entry only with a warrant, or in immediate need.
  2. I thought a warrant had to be obtained from a judicial personage such as a magistrate. What was this person told and why did he (guess here) accede to it?
  3. Who had authorised the arrest, and what for in the absence of evidence.?
This is very scarey, and why to the perpetrators get away scot free?
GCAcademic · 04/10/2022 08:59

The police aren’t “allowing themselves to be used”.

They are complicit, willing participants in the MRA movement, seeing the harassment of women as one of the perks of the job. The “profession”, by nature, attracts power-crazed, abusive types.

GiantKitten · 04/10/2022 08:59

This was tweeted earlier today.
I suspect the police might have been befuddled with some unusual reading of the law.
I do hope there will be consequences 😡

The core thing here is, is this a good use of police time?
Or in fact is it damaging the police?
So sick of this shit.

How can they arrest someone based on having a username on a non UK, non US even based char forum which supposedly doesnt even exist anymore? Even being on Mumsnet. So what? It's moderated.

It does exist, I've just been looking at the memes.

She said helpfully.

PriOn1 · 04/10/2022 08:51

That’s horrendous and terrifying in equal Measure. I don’t understand what is happening for the police to do this. Surely it’d not normal to arrest anyone without having any evidence. It would be bad enough if they turned up and asked for a voluntary chat, but to drag someone off to the station without any evidence, presumably based on a report from another individual, is insanity.

IcakethereforeIam · 04/10/2022 08:50

Well! A sense of humour will carry you a long way and she's got her family behind her. I hope the Police are mortified at being used like this. Poor woman, I'm so angry.

I'm not religious, but, iirc, it's the feast of St Francis today (would be my favourite, he seems a cool dude). He'd be there for you.

ItsLateHumpty · 04/10/2022 08:49

Fucking hell Caro…. let’s hope he’s really overstepped the mark this time.

@VicarInaTuTu thought you’d be interested in this thread (cos of the sticker thread) - this is a prime example of what we mean we we talk about police over reach. This is a bit more than ‘getting someone else’s side’

FigRollsAlly · 04/10/2022 08:49

Doesn’t Surrey have a GC PCC? I wonder what she would have to say about the way the police handled this.

NecessaryScene · 04/10/2022 08:47

What is wrong with Carolyn being Beenard or BreakWund? They have not posted anything illegal.

I'm trying to imagine what could possibly be illegal yet tolerated by Mumsnet moderators, especially on this board.

They're not exactly super-lax.

Is it Weetabix-related?

Athenajm80 · 04/10/2022 08:47

This is disgusting! I have no idea who is alluded to as being the one who reported, but whoever he/she is should be ashamed of themselves. This is school yard bullying but on a way more serious scale. People could lose their jobs and homes just for stating scientific facts (or being accused of stating them, even if they didn't actually do it).

Whoever is making these ridiculous accusations should definitely be prosecuted for wasting police time, perverting the course of justice, and anything else that would stick.

Arrested without evidence? When she was not resisting or being violent? No interview ‘helping police with enquiries’ ?

And threatening to section someone who is feeling suicidal? When MN alone is full of really ill people who cannot get MH support.

Can the police be done for wasting police time?

This is making them look very, very stupid.

And like the Stasi.

all of this.

Sorry for typos, posting while walking.

Treaclemine · 04/10/2022 08:42

I believe that back in th late 18th century there were boxes around Paris for anonymous denouncers to anonymously denounce people. We seem to have the equivalent now. Surely fake denouncements to the police should have a criminal charge attached to them, at very least wasting police time. But also harassment and libel etc.
It's unbelievable.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 04/10/2022 08:41

Oh FFS. Why do the police keep allowing themselves to be used in this way - it's basically a low key version of swatting.

I really, really hope that the police can find something to charge the individual who reported her with.

ImherewithBoudica · 04/10/2022 08:40

Meanwhile what are the clear-up rates for burglary, mugging and car theft? How many rapists do they catch? How many of the trolls makng rape and death threats online against women are ever arrested...?

I would love to see a breakdown of costs involved in man hours, facilities, resources, all of it, to participate in this bloody silly game. This is taxpayer money being fucked about with.

BorgQueen · 04/10/2022 08:40

I hope she gets fair cop involved and sues for wrongful arrest.
Why aren’t the police bothered about being used for malicious targetting and all the resources being wasted?

Fidgetbottom · 04/10/2022 08:39

No… I am Caroline Farrow.

NotBadConsidering · 04/10/2022 08:37

I’m Spartacus Carolin Farrow.
