Long twitter thread here. She's had her electronic devices seized too, and has been accused of being certain posters on Kiwi Farms and Mumsnet

@BernardBlacksWineIceLolly and @BreakWindandFire sorry to tag you but she's been accused of being you!

We all know who this will be, but as Caroline says, please don't speculate/discuss them.

It does seem that police go for the soft and easy targets.
If it has come to pass that one cannot say something as simple and as ''Women can't have penises'' it is very alarming.

It's surprising and worrying police take action on such things.

What about the women's rights to feel safe away from male bodied persons in their spaces.

I asked the leader of gay men's walking group a couple of years ago if I could go on one of the walks.
The bloke replied ''No, you are a woman''.

I replied that I could ''Self ID as a man'' and he just laughed and said that wouldn't be possible, that the group was for men, not women.

Men are very good at guarding their spaces from women, but the other way round? Men start throwing bottles of urine about in protest {as was in the news this year}.

DifficultBloodyWoman · 04/10/2022 12:25

I’m not on twitter so this thread was the first I heard of this.

I hope it isn’t the last.

Caroline, I hope you are ok. I hope you sue the police because I think you have reason to. I hope you also sue the men harassing you. If there is a fundraiser, I will contribute. Please get FairCop and FSU involved in this. And please, please, please get as much publicity for this as humanly possibly. This situation is ripe for further intervention from Suella Braverman.

TastefulRainbowUnicorn · 04/10/2022 12:23

The familiar two-harder! A patronising invented expertise on whatever the topic of conversation is. Police procedures, this time. 🙄 And using the pathetic pretence of knowing anything about anything to justify whatever violence and abuse has been committed most recently against enemies of the cause.

dolorsit · 04/10/2022 12:03

Then he failed in his duty of care. In answer to a positive response of thoughts of self harm then he should have referred to duty health care.

Not say he would send her back to the cells to think about her answer and that he would section her.

I don't think so, she responded in a way that indicated she might be going to hurt herself. He gave her time to reflect on it and she confirmed she wasn't going to do anything. You can't just jump to the conclusion that people always mean the first thing that comes out of their mouth.

Apart from anything else he can't section her but he can keep her in a safe place if he has reason to believe she is a danger to herself. That is section 136 of the Mental Health Act 1983.

He kept her in a place of safety until he was satisfied he could safely release her.

MelodyPondsMum · 04/10/2022 12:22

What they're saying and doing is trying yo distract from what this thread is about. Lots of posters here work and campaign on lots of different issues. We raise awareness and write white papers about persecuted minority groups. Those issues are on their relevant threads. There's not a limit to campaigning or compassionate ... except with the posters trying to make this thread about everything except its topic. I've never seen so much sealioning.

Fwiw CF's faith could also be an aggravated characteristic. It wouldn't be the first time the police have overstepped their powers and indulged their bigotry against RCs.

WildishBambino · 04/10/2022 12:21

Using the search facility, neither of the posters Caroline was accused of being have posted here in (literally) years - not since 2019.

Why have a late night arrest for comments made 3 years ago?

Felix125 · 04/10/2022 12:21

whynotwhatknot · 04/10/2022 11:47

wait they have no evidience but theyre asking her if shes done anything

bloody extreme

The problem is - if there is an allegation then part of the investigation is to gain the evidence to prove or disprove an offence.

So if you take rape for example - an allegation is made which identifies a suspect. From that allegation the suspect will be arrested.

Under the same argument, if we wait until we had all the evidence before arresting the suspect, it could be months for any forensics to come back. We also then lose any forensic opportunities from the alleged suspect which would prove or disprove the offence.

Herja · 04/10/2022 12:21

I would absolutely read the suggestion to rethink self harm or face a section as a threat. I've self harmed in a station, even during an interview, with nothing like that suggested at any point. The threshold for harm to self is pretty high for sectioning - you can absolutely cut or burn yourself a bit with no issue (as confirmed to me by both police and SS). IME, if the injury doesn't medically require a&e, institutions are unfussed.

That was a threat, not helpful concern.

TastefulRainbowUnicorn · 04/10/2022 12:20

You're posting about how CF doesn't have the correct, pure politics, rather than in outrage

It’s not feminists posting that shite. These are familiar usernames (and even more familiar posting styles) and there’s nothing feminist about them. They’re not outraged about the TRA Gestapo for the most obvious reason.

ToGanymedeAndTitan · 04/10/2022 12:17

What are you talking about? You're trying to say it doesn't matter because Caroline is middle class?

No, I don't think that's what the poster is saying at all.
I think they're saying that people get arrested all the time, say from minority groups, but they don't have the privileges, the platforms, and emotional support threads to possibly gather support, or to sway, there's no collective outrage for them.
I could be wrong though, hopefully the poster will be along to say soon

Dhama · 04/10/2022 12:16

I’d have liked to have seen him section her. Unless he’s an AMHP or has consulted a medical professional first.

feeling that you might self harm as a result of the stress/current situation is not going to result in a hospital stay. At best he could have kept hold of her for a bit longer, but only after she’d been assessed by someone else to actually be a risk to herself.

If this has happened as stated it reads as quite threatening.

it’s horrifying that they have acted in this manner

BadedasBubbles · 04/10/2022 12:16

Surrey Police you say?
Surrey Police who are ranked higher in Stonewall’s top employer list than Sussex Police?
Attention all feminists in Leicestershire - brace yourself for a knock on the door.

KettrickenSmiled · 04/10/2022 11:48

Well said @ancientgran. As above - PP don't understand how police procedure works, & are conflating a piece of legally required speech with the misconduct of an apparently wrongful arrest.

Some ''duty of care''.

She told him that she'd thought of self harming, and he didn't like her answer so he got another one out her and then sent her on her way.

Seems a bit dangerous?

FictionalCharacter · 04/10/2022 12:12

GCAcademic · 04/10/2022 08:59

The police aren’t “allowing themselves to be used”.

They are complicit, willing participants in the MRA movement, seeing the harassment of women as one of the perks of the job. The “profession”, by nature, attracts power-crazed, abusive types.

Absolutely true. They are not being used at all, they relish this, it’s an opportunity. Any woman who can’t see the misogyny in the police force is deluded. The high rate of domestic violence by police officers speaks volumes. So does their persistent failure to take crimes like stalking seriously when they’re perpetrated against women.

TheClogLady · 04/10/2022 12:11

AlisonDonut · 04/10/2022 10:03

Caro has given enough info in her tweets to enable anyone to go to the forum in question and read up on the sustained harassment aimed at her by the persistent person and his GP friend, who was suspended from GPing due to his behaviour.

Make several coffees if you are genuinely interested in doing the research.

Tbf that thread becomes near impossible to follow due to what is more or less the online equivalent of a Punch and Judy show in the middle.

I’m tempted to make a joke about crocodiles and sausages but I’m not willing to give anyone the opportunity to wilfully misunderstand me.

Hopefully, wasting police time is still a crime, because there is far more evidence of that in relation to the person who reported Caroline than there is of Caroline doing anything illegal.

Needmoresleep · 04/10/2022 12:11

Isn't there a crime about wasting police time? Using the police as a harassment tool should qualify.

I can see that the Police, if they receive serious sounding allegations, perhaps using lawyerly terms, would feel under an obligation to act. Real crime happens and to some extent they can be damned if they do and damned if they don't. However there have been too many allegations, one obviously one was Mimmymum/Miranda, where distress and more has happened to the person who was accused, yet no penalty seems to have been levered on the accuser.

Agree with her or not, Caroline is a strong woman. Perhaps her problem is that as far as some men are concerned, she does not confirm to gender stereotypes.

beastlyslumber · 04/10/2022 12:10

KettrickenSmiled · 04/10/2022 11:45

It's Caroline Farrow today. Who will it be tomorrow?

Wrong question. The question you are missing is "who was it yesterday? Who is it today?"
I don't think any of you have ever been taken to a cop shop.
Shit like this happens to working class folk with depressing regularity. But as they're not yummy mummies with a high profile, nobody's taking to MN to defend them.

Disliking her views doesn't make me willing to throw her under a bus btw.
Of course she shouldn't have been arrested & treated like this - but she has the resources to not only escape whatever penalties the police might have trumped up mistakenly felt she was due, but to capitalise on this incident to promote her 'brand'.

What are you talking about? You're trying to say it doesn't matter because Caroline is middle class? What? It would matter more if it happened to someone else, and because I am concerned about the person it's happening to and not some hypothetical less middle class person it's not currently happening to then... something?

You seem confused, tbh. Must be hard to manage the cognitive dissonance, I imagine: "harassing women is wrong! but she's the wrong kind of woman! but it's wrong! but she's wrong!" Maybe go and lie down for a bit and come back when you've found your moral backbone.

Thelnebriati · 04/10/2022 12:07

Imagine being so oppressed you can make an unsubstantiated allegation and have the police harass your enemies.

Yes, he has a duty of care. Imagine the fuss if he released her and she did harm herself and maybe died. He'd be well and truly in the shit then.

Exactly

Then he failed in his duty of care. In answer to a positive response of thoughts of self harm then he should have referred to duty health care.

This is the 21century version of witch hunting/witch trials.

Women do something which males don't like and - "burn them'

Made me think of this....

MelodyPondsMum · 04/10/2022 11:58

In the current climate with all the increased scrutiny, let's hope the police realise very quickly just how much they have fucked up. But, actually it's time all of this was brought to a much wider audience. We don't pay our taxes for a police force to act like a private security firm.
There are lots of good people in the police and the legal system. Incidents that make a mockery of the justice system, bring all of them in disrepute and they are reaching the end of their tether with it too.

Mythreefavouritethings · 04/10/2022 11:58

Goodness me, with all the issues going on in the police force right now, I would have thought they have a hell of a lot more to focus on. There must be lawyers rubbing their hands with glee at taking these spurious claims on. With all the think crimes rolling about out there, they will be tripping over one another. 'I see your unfair dismissal and raise you my gender status and tenuous mental health'. Oh and if a PC wants to question me, I'm in all day but bring your own teabags.

MelodyPondsMum · 04/10/2022 11:53

Lots of MNers have been involved with the police - on both sides of the counter. And in the court system. And in the court reporting system. That's why we know what the processes are and can see exactly how much the police have fucked up here.
