Tory’s manipulation of women

All this nonsense that only the Tory’s know what a women is and you can’t vote Labour/Lib Dem/SNP because they don’t is just conscious and disingenuous manipulation of women voters, isn’t it? They say what people want to hear. Photo taken today at conference suggests they are also unclear about the rights of natal women but happy to get their votes by lying.
who is really more likely to support woman's rights, JRM or Angela Rayner? Johnson or Yvette Cooper?

The LP have been clear they will add gender identity to the protected characteristics and move forward with self-id.

The Tories have said they won't.

What is manipulative is trying to pretend those things are the same.

This.

And suggesting that women who agree are either bots or led astray by the Narsty Shadowy Right Wing really doesn't help the cause.

waffless · 03/10/2022 07:41

Who are you kidding? You know that Labour will push the culture wars further. It is who they are they are. The party of the minorities. They are full of hate politics and division. The tragedy is that there a not options for the next elections.

Cillery · 03/10/2022 07:39

For goodness sake you have one badge and you don’t even know whether the guy is a Tory supporter anyway. Is the photo genuine? We know there was a bunch of labour activists heckling yesterday anyway. If you’re taken in by this sort of stuff you’re naive.

OldCrone · 03/10/2022 07:37

Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom and little pics with us women.

For comparison with this one pic of an anonymous tory here is a whole thread of anti woman statements made by Labour MPs.

Welcome to mumsnet CaronPoivre

Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom and little pics with us women. We're thrilled that a political "thinker" like you found this little community of women to lecture. Where this board would be without our regular ploppers descending to correct our womanthink I cannot imagine? Without such turds of wisdom, few of us would be able to get out of the door, let alone work, parent, socialise or even vote without your directions. 😑

OldCrone · 03/10/2022 07:30

Since neither Rayner nor Cooper seem to know what a woman is, it seems unlikely that either of them would be able to support women's rights.

alright let’s look at what politicians do then - what Labour do is stand by while Rose Duffield gets an endless stream of abuse. What Labour do is ban GC groups from having stands at their conference. What Labour do is call GC women “rights hoarding dinosaurs” (hello David lammy) if Labour were in power self ID would already be law

I have never voted for anyone other than Labour. I’ll never vote Tory but the idea that Labour are good for women (I mean how could we even tell when their definition of women is “adult human females plus men with womanly feels”, how would we measure policy success?) is fucking laughable

Which Tory? Great that it is only one. You are aware that there may be more than one and that, unlike every other political party, official policy (what counts) is NOT TWAW?

PronounssheRa · 03/10/2022 06:47

Angela Rayner was a huge fan of Lily Madigan. At best that makes Angela a very bad judge of character supporting someone who was involved in the Labour against transphobia group, which was essentially a witch hunt to force women out of the Labour Party.

Labour, the Lib Dems and the Greens have all vowed to introduce self id. The Tories stopped self id and abandoned the GRA reforms. So tell me again how a vote for labour is a vote for women's rights?

334bu · 03/10/2022 01:09

"The Tory party have shown by their past and present deeds that they don't give a shit about women's rights"

And neither do Labour MPs who declare that women have no right to female only refuges prisons etc

TooBigForMyBoots · 03/10/2022 00:46

I want women to pay attention to what politicians do. Especially the ones in power.

Deeds not words! The Tory party have shown by their past and present deeds that they don't give a shit about women's rights.

MarshaMelrose · 03/10/2022 00:40

It's sad that you think that women aren't intelligent enough to listen to what politicians say and make a judgement which political party will serve their most pressing concerns best, just because their conclusion is different from yours.
Back in the 70s I fought for equality and for womens opinions to be respected by men. I never thought 50 years later I'd have to be asking that of women instead.

TooBigForMyBoots · 03/10/2022 00:26

It doesn't really matter what the Tories say. They know that every man the state treats as though they were female, cements Self ID and trans inclusion in our legal system. FFS, they sent a paedophile man to a women's prison this week. It also doesn't matter what they say when they write gender woo into government Bills and defend it against common sense by stating TWAW and TMAM at the Despatch Box. To be recorded by Hansard.

If Labour or anyone else decide to protect gender ID, it will be little more than virtue signalling. The work and the damage is already done. And history will show it was the Tories that did it.

But it wasn’t.

Labour put men in Women’s prisons while the Tories were in the electoral wilderness.

Except it's not One Tory MP. There are loads of them. Unsurprising since they are the party responsible for this shitshow.🤷‍♀️

Should they win, none of the other parties actually need to do anything wrt Trans inclusion and gender woo. The Tories have done it all for them. They put men in women's prisons and hospitals and with each decision cement their Self ID policy further and further.

The idea that "at least the Tories know what a woman is" has always been a lie. Some do. Some don't. None of them give a fuck about women.

Tbf it was Blair’s Labour that passed the GRA in 2004 and made changing the sex on a birth certificate into a legal process.

That’s the root of the problem. Sure, Theresa May’s Tories proposals for Self ID escalated and adapted for the modern era but a) they didn’t start it and b) Johnson’s Tories scrapped those proposals when it became apparent that it was the official gateway to lunacy.

Now we are still left trying to close off the side alleyway to lunacy, but that’s still better than where we could be if Labour (who promised Self ID in their 2019 manifesto) had won.

Every party has been a shit show on this (and the Greens and LibDems are currently even worse than Labour and the Women’s Equality Party is the biggest joke of all).

Bring on the new SDP.

That's just desperate. One tory MP feels that way? What a surprise, that changes everything. Not.
Of course some Tories have that opinion.
But it's only Labour where the leader says that it's inappropriate to ask if only women have a cervix.

CaronPoivre Considering how many women here campaigned against the Conservative proposals to change the GRC process, it's obvious you don't have a clue about how women here think.

who is really more likely to support woman's rights, JRM or Angela Rayner? Johnson or Yvette Cooper?

Honestly? I have no idea. None of them are remotely feminist.

Even Mordant has rowed right back on that one!

I'd rather be manipulated than treated with such utter contempt.
It doesn't matter what Rayner or Cooper think when the party apparatus can't see a sinking ship without wanting to leap on it. The sheer self-righteous misogyny of the Labour party is a huge problem, it's losing them not just electoral support on polling day but support from the people who would previously have put effort into campaigning and fundraising.

TheClogLady · 02/10/2022 22:17

CaronPoivre · 02/10/2022 21:39

Definitely not Kemi because of her extremely right wing views. Any candidate supported by Britain First would not get my vote.

Topsy Turvy Upside Down world strikes again.

I have no idea who Britain First supports (I tend to stay away from those sorts of orgs, personally) but if BF have updated their position enough to publicly support a black British woman who was mostly raised in her parent’s home country (Nigeria) then they must be at least slightly better than I imagined.

Lisa Nandy is a massive disappointment. I really wanted to support her in the Labour leadership contest but she made a right twit of herself, like most of Labour’s parliamentary party have in recent years, sadly.

endofthelinefinally · 02/10/2022 22:14

That photo is just a lapel with some badges on it. Who is wearing it and who took the photo? I would be very interested to know.

FOJN · 02/10/2022 22:13

Manipulated by the Tories and at risk of becoming a fascist if I so much as look at someone from the far right I'm so glad there are people in the world prepared to put themselves out to save me from my own stupidity.

EsmaCannonball · 02/10/2022 22:10

I wouldn't vote for somebody just because they correctly define women as adult human females. An ability to acknowledge objective material reality is the barest minimum requirement for a politician, not a vote-winner.
