To ask DC’s school about gender identity

CanStopWillStop · 01/10/2022 16:22

I am going to view a prospective primary prep school for DD.

It’s a very popular all-girls school so admissions are over subscribed. I have a list of pretty standard questions, however I also want to ask what they are teaching the children about gender or gender identity.

I also want to ask whether they would admit trans girls (born male) in the school.

There is no mention of this in the prospectus however DH thinks it’s a bad idea to ask.

AIBU to ask these types of questions?

@LunaLights do you refer to your DC as your ‘male child’ or ‘female child’ in conversation. Or son and daughter? If the former, you would sound very odd indeed to the ordinary person…

We aren’t in a casual conversation, we are talking about single sex schools.

obviously you won’t want to send your children to a school that is limited to children of just one sex, presumably you’d find that too ‘icky’.

@Ereshkigalangcleg we aren’t zoo animals. Referring to live people as ‘male’ or ‘female’ gives me the ick, even more so when it comes to children. Why obfuscate it? Just say boy or girl. Male or female child has an almost sinister edge to it. Even if medicine it’s boy or girl, at least in my experience having kids…

We ARE mammals you big dafty!

Male and female is much clearer, besides, you wouldn’t want to prohibit non binary people from using their sex based rights, would you?

BrrrGettingColder · 02/10/2022 01:44

What is wrong with saying female, male? I don't understand what you're getting at, here? Could you elucidate?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 02/10/2022 01:42

Why obfuscate it? Just say boy or girl

There's nothing obfuscatory about using male or female to describe biological sex. You sound a bit odd. Try to get over your "ick" for biology and science and grow up, maybe?

Eellet · 02/10/2022 01:40

Ereshkigalangcleg · 02/10/2022 01:17

it’s weird you said ‘female children but ok

Not really. It's to differentiate them from male children, when some people like to indulge in linguistic gymnastics about gender identity to promote their personal ideology.

If you were at all knowledgeable about the situation, you would absolutely know why “females” is required as a designation, rather than “girls”.

A TRA would tell you to “do better and educate yourself” regarding the terms you use - however, language does reveal the ideology…

The TRA is now just insulting posters. How surprising.

@BrrrGettingColder i assume you mean that as some kind of insult, but I am not particular active nor an activist on trans issues specifically. I just dislike people like you punching down, and your engagement throughout this thread has not made me think that you’re anything more than a pretty classic bully.

BrrrGettingColder · 02/10/2022 01:27

OP, you have asked a very reasonable question. You are choosing a girls' school for your daughter.

@TheClogLady not sure you’ve been following the thread at all. It’s not about advocating for ‘female children’ (I call them girls, it’s weird you said ‘female children but ok…), it’s about the usual trans bashing that goes on here.

If you gave a shit about girls you’d actually be advocating for things they need - dealing with the horror show that is navigating online spaces (pro-ANA spaces being one, sexts at very early ages being another), but no, you waste time on this.

Once upon a time I agreed there was a serious debate to be had - single sex spaces are a no brainer - but the problem is the so called gender critical mov aren’t serious, they’re just swinging their metaphorical dicks around.

You don't appear to be particularly well informed about this issue, despite all your "activism".

@Ereshkigalangcleg what an erudite contribution from the font of all knowledge and prophet of the One Truth. I must be wrong, because you don’t agree with me eh 🙄

LunaLights · 02/10/2022 01:08

letsghostdance · 01/10/2022 18:25

You're unlikely to find a school that will teach the way that you're thinking because schools tend to follow the research and teach what's most beneficial for children and what keeps with best practice.

Interesting that it's in opposition to your way of thinking.

If schools followed the research and not the ideology, we would not be in the shit situation we are in.

Biology NOT ideology - my child’s school (thankfully) abides by the former, not the latter doctrine.

You don’t seem to be interested in advocating for female children.

which is what this thread is about.

Bugger your word salad.

As a woman, I would prefer that men, male-born individuals, keep their male selves out of spaces for women and girls, because they are men. Women have rights too. Or should have, but people like you think we should not have rights, what with us being merely cunty women.

"Gender identity" is completely baffling. Might as well as "star sign".

@BrrrGettingColder disappointing you resort to this kind of vulgar display, but ok. Spent quite a decent chunk of my life advocating for gay rights, and women’s rights. You know, actually doing something practical. I can only assume the sum total of your activism has been tonight, on this forum.

Eellet · 02/10/2022 00:49

Whatiswrongwithmyknee · 02/10/2022 00:33

Do you think most trans people think TW should not be in women's sports, prisons, menopause support groups, and rape crisis centres, and think that the word woman should only refer to biological women and lesbian only to biological women attracted to biological women? If so, great, and they should speak up more and against the activists who say otherwise. If no, then they are stopping women living their lives.

@Whatiswrongwithmyknee I can only
speak about people I know, of course, but yes most trans people I know would agree with most of that.

As to the ‘speaking up more’, they’re a bit busy being attacked constantly, both physically and verbally, to do that I’m afraid. They’ve got enough on their plate, what with the disproportionate suicide rate, lack of appropriate services and so on, to be entering into this kind of debate.

TheClogLady · 02/10/2022 00:41

and they are almost all men

This thread is about primary school aged girls, in a girls school.

A single sex school for females.

The reason we want single sex spaces for female is because of the point YOU made.

one male in a female space and it becomes a mixed sex space.

@BrrrGettingColder I wholeheartedly agree that’s what women want. Every trans person I know - and I think I can argue I know an amount disproportionate to the average person - wants the same for women too.

There is no Pope of Trans that speaks for them all. Another PP has made my point for me by complaining that one of the main perpetrators in their eyes is the head of stonewall, who is not trans.

There are genuine anti women demons to be beaten, and they are almost all men. Why not concentrate on the people who have actual power, rather than the powerless. The idea there is some trans lobby effectively making shit worse for women is nonsense, they are a tiny percentage of the population, and zero percent of pretty much any western Legistature.

But yeah, the internets tells you they’re the bad guys because a minuscule minority of people claiming to be trans have done awful things (I’m rather reminded that every time there’s a terrorist attack the right wing press screams ‘why aren’t Muslims speaking up?!’, when of course many do, and 99.99999% have no connection to the perpetrator). No need to think for yourself now that you’ve joined the lynch mob.

FYI, not trans myself.

@ Eellet:
Then let trans identifiying men leave women well alone, by your own standards.
Quote, adapted:

"You know what most trans people women want? The same as everyone else. To be able to live their bloody lives. The hysteria people like you present is no different at all to the way people actually persecuted - women and girls.

Stompythedinosaur · 01/10/2022 18:11

I doubt you will find an anti-trans school tbh. If this is a huge issue for you, you might need to home educate. But honestly, aren't there more important things, like how happy your dc will be there, to consider?

OP does not say she's looking for an anti-trans schools. She would seem quite happy for transboys to be there, just wants it to be an actual girls school. As she said, there is evidence that girls benefit from single sex ed so making it mixed sex by admitting transgirls rather defeats the purpose.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 02/10/2022 00:09

Maybe one trans person said something stupid once

It wasn't a trans person being quoted there, it's the CEO of Stonewall, selling other lesbians down the river. In a recent tribunal a lawyer said lesbians not including MTF trans people as sexual partners was like "apartheid".

And as for trans people saying homophobic things, it certainly isn't only one. Here's a thread I created here going back to 2018 collating social media.

BrrrGettingColder · 02/10/2022 00:06

Also, this OP was moved from AIBU to the Wimmin's Naughty Step. We really do have monitors who don't like women getting together to talk.
