Some good news from Yorkshire Cancer Research that apparently not only are 100% of women attending cervical screening, but 50% of men must be too.

Incredible performance, job done. 👏

My DH is one of the 25% of people who does not attend. Should I be worried, what can I do?! Maybe I should contact the charity to ask them.

Yet their website very clearly talks about women:

yorkshirecancerresearch.org.uk/how-we-help/diagnose-cancer/

Thousands of women living in Yorkshire will be offered tests to find out if they are at high risk of cancer as part of a new clinical trial.

Women aged 65-79 who are no longer automatically invited for cervical screening will be offered an at-home urine test in a new study led by Ms Clare Gilham and Professor Julian Peto at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

Led by Dr Melanie Cooper and Professor Marcus Rattray at the University of Bradford, a £441,000 study will explore new ways to encourage women in the South Asian community to take part in screening.

Whats wrong with being a woman? Why is it so unmentionable? It makes me feel like being a woman is dirty or wrong in some way. I used to be proud to be a woman but now I feel it's something I am supposed to ashmaed of and to hide.

LovelyChicken · 28/09/2022 11:34

Thanks for this. I've emailed Yorkshire Cancer research. Will share if they respond.

Sophoclesthefox · 28/09/2022 11:31

It’s very hard to find a good response to this utter piffle. FUCK OFF seems about right.

The word is WOMAN. Three out of four WOMEN attend cervical screening. Four out of four men do not, because they don’t have cervices.

Health messaging should be clear and targeted, so that women with ESL, low literacy and with SEN can access it. This is an utter waste of resource.

Rightsraptor · 28/09/2022 11:16

The poster does have that bloody rainbow in the bottom right corner, so obviously the word woman is forbidden.

endofthelinefinally · 28/09/2022 11:13

Of course, broadly speaking they are correct. It just sounds contrived to avoid using the easily understood words.

Idiots.

FernPotts · 28/09/2022 11:12

I don't mind the Sainsbury's message. I think it's quite common for organizations to forget that 50% of the population are indeed women, and that being a woman is just as normal as being a man.

ArabellaScott · 28/09/2022 11:12

Well, they can fuck off.

endofthelinefinally · 28/09/2022 11:11

According to Sainsburys public address system, 50% of people experience menopause. They didn't say how they identified that 50%. Why is it so difficult to say the word "women"?

FernPotts · 28/09/2022 11:11

Given they have a helpful footnote anyway, surely it would be quite a good idea to put WOMEN AGED 25-64 in the main poster and a footnote saying 'Transmen: If you are 25-64 and still have a cervix, please also attend'

FernPotts · 28/09/2022 11:09

Or maybe 100% of men and 50% of women already attend. That's why they show a woman in the ad, because the other 50% of women are the ones who don't reply to letters.

Or something.

MoltenLasagne · 28/09/2022 11:09

I also like the very helpful addition at the bottom that anyone age 25-64 with a cervix should attend screening. Very helpful, particularly for our area which has high levels of women who are ESL.
