In the Times, quite prominently placed in the News section:

That's the kind of thing I was after NecessaryScene.

I went for "life-changing medical treatments" as a shortcut for those cases that will have something more concrete and substantial to argue.

Again, we're going to see people hiding behind their choices not to document their experimental practices on children. That can't be adequately challenged in court and looks more like inquiry level stuff.

As far as I've seen, the media reports it as '1000 expected' - which is in line with the estimate from the lawyers. I've not seen the video so I don't know what that says. So, not 'misinformation'.

Sorry can't work out how to do share token for original report on that

What does the 19,000 figure represent in terms of children or young adults who actually received puberty blockers or went through life-changing medical treatments?

I dug into this on the previous thread.

Shorter summary of my post there:

The 19,000 would be total referrals to GIDs, which have been running at over 2000 per year since 2016.

I don't think we know a "total given puberty blockers" number, but we can estimate.

From the Cass report we know at least 200 out of 2500 referred in 2019 went onto the "endocrine pathway" in 2019. It's hard to say what the upper bound is there - a lot of the remainder referred in 2019 could have gone down the path later and not been counted in the 200.

So scaling that over the time period we can estimate 1750 or more in total (200 * 19000/2500) went on to puberty blocker or hormone treatment.

And it makes sense that not just those given treatment have cause for complaint, due to their over-emphasis on physical treatment.

I have worked with Christian (and Spitfire Audio) before and he was always such a nice person to work with.
Very sad for him to potentially lose his job over this and disappointing to see how quickly people turn on their friends and colleagues.
So sick of cancel culture. No room for debate and opposing opinions while it sticks around.

I don't know, but you don't have to have had puberty blockers to decide you have grounds to sue for medical malpractice.

I'm not having a go. I think being on the Right Side of the Facts is significantly more valuable that trying to be on the Right Side of History.

EdithStourton · 08/09/2022 09:13

Aren't we repeatedly told that cancel culture doesn't exist and we silly ovary-havers are just making up?

Man makes comment. Man loses job.

Looks pretty bloody cancelly to me.

I'm also irritated by people stating "1000 families are suing the Tavistock". It's simply not true. Spreading misinformation of things that people want to be true but aren't (see truthiness) introduces weaknesses into the gender critical cause. That's supposed to be the domain of trans activists.

Agreed, but it's how the story was reported in the media, e.g.:
web.archive.org/web/20220827022729/www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11101661/Tavistock-transgender-clinic-facing-mass-legal-action-1-000-families.html

The "up to1,000" figure seems to come from the law firm Pogust Goodhead, which specialises in class actions. Of course, they have a vested interest in making the estimate high - but I believe around 19,000 families got treatment via the Tavistock over the years so maybe the roughly 5% is in line with the firm's experience of similar group claims?

TheKeatingFive · 08/09/2022 09:01

1000 families could potentially sue Tavistock because that is how many people used the service, you could equally say 1 million families sue the NHS everyday.

No. This says 20,000.

Getting facts straight is important, right?

The law firm have clarified that the suit would go beyond just those who have used endocrinology services.

Graham said again that 1000 families are suing Tavistock on last night's TMWI.

That was the number widely reported in the media.

Good to see it being reported in The Times, but is the final paragraph wrong? I don't recall Allison Bailey claiming that the cotton ceiling was mentioned at a Garden Court event.

ErrolTheDragon · 08/09/2022 08:31

I mean not misinformation in the media... don't know about the video.

Something the TRAs would do well to remember re JKR

Poor guy, standing up for children not to be damaged and he gets this. Hope the CEO gets his day in court.

Yuk. That apology is pathetic. I need a shower after that.

Fully support Christian.
