'LIZ Truss is reportedly trying to block Scotland's plans to allow self-ID for transgender people and has asked lawyers for advice on how to "pause or prevent" the reforms.'

Good to hear, I hope she is successful.

Good

The reforms to the GRA in Scotland are so badly thought out that if Stergon and co manage to get them in this was always going to end up in court.
The changes mean that no Scottish GRA would be legally recognised outside of Scotland due to the different issuing systems (nic et al were specifically asked about this answered we don't know) nor would any be able to be issued to non scotts because they cannot order an English, Welsh or Northern Ireland registrar to reissue a birth certificate even through scot government claims that it will be for anyone usually resident in Scotland (whatever that means) so a2 tear system that gives preferential treatment to born Scots (nic refutes this but can't explain why its in her opinion wrong). Then we have the legal issues about 16&17 year olds not being able to sign any binding contract as they are not considered adults by the law (even in Scotland with emancipation at 16 they are still minors in law(its a gray mess)) and that's before we get into all the reserved law's that it interacts with and the harm that it will cause women and girls.
Tbh I'm really happy that the UK government is intervening as it saves us women in Scotland having to and it will help to strengthen the argument against independence as self id is (when fully explained)supported by less than 20% of the population and many former independence supporters (myself included) won't vote for independence until they get rid of the woke bs or reform the government

I feel so sad for Scotland. This doesn't really belong here, but I wrote to one of the organisations which gives out health information, because they had erased the female sex in all of that information while retaining the male sex as men and boys.
I got a response where they promised to erase the male sex, too. So it goes.

Oooh, good good good. And done in her first couple of days too. Gives me hope.

The GRR could be just the MacGuffin, I think. The bigger issue is Scottish independence, and tensions between different legislatures.

I Hope she succeeds. I'm sick of them using that "international best practice" guff to make out like what they are doing is normal and acceptable. Sick of it.

Yup, if I see them talking about the feckin Yogyakarta Principles as if they were some kind of authority rather than the wishlist of various genderist lobby groups that they actual are I will scream.

Of course Westmonster "meddling" will go down like a cup of cold sick with the SNP faithful but will add fuel to their fire at the same time, so there's that...

Good

It's also the case that Scotgov have been told very clearly they can't make legislation that impacts on the rest of the UK. They've a history of not thinking these things through properly.

Sometimes I think they're just naive and well meaning. Other times ...

V happy that Liz Truss has thought through the implications of this for the rest of the UK, unlike so many other politicians

Ofcourseshecan · 07/09/2022 20:24

Good news. I’m worried about her right-wing views on many issues. But she’s totally sane in her opposition to the male-supremacist gender ideology.

ArabellaScott · 07/09/2022 20:13

It'll be really interesting to see how legislation interacts/impacts on different countries within the UK.

Good for her. It's a total mess in all directions.

G’wan Liz.

I’m all for rights - just not at the expense of mine.
