The spell is breaking......daughters finally waking up?

I have slowly and gently been countering the trans ideology that my two teenage girls have been exposed to at school and social media.
One has always been very gender critical and we have been discussing things in the news like men in women's sports, the many (many) kids identifying as "trans" in her year at school, her own registration teacher (whose child is a trans male to female) basically indoctrinating her group on trans "rights", the law in Scotland where we live etc.

My oldest girls however, was VERY much TWAW, be kind, the whole hog. She has a gay BF and I think she was confusing the issues in her mind. We have had a lot of VERY tense conversations but I hoped she would come to her own conclusions in time.
Yesterday we had a breakthrough.
We were discussing (again) women's sports and the rugby issue, the golfing/snooker issue in the news. She finally admitted that biology is important in sport, that she thinks there should be categories for trans athletes (I will work on this!) and EVEN wondered OUT LOUD that bathrooms and sex segregated spaces should include third spaces for trans people.

It was a massive admission for her.
I did then explain to her that what she just said would get her "cancelled" as a terf, that these solutions have ALL been suggested and that they are never good enough for the TRAs, that they want #no debate, unquestioning acceptance that TWAW, across the board access to women's spaces etc.

She said....."it's not fair Mum is it?".

I could cry.

I think the spell is breaking.

Have you broke through with any TWAW children or relatives?

I love how angry you all are @PrawnofthePatriarchy these threads are all hilarious 😆

The credit for the comedy is all yours, don't be so modest.

A very smart, caring and inclusive daughter you have. She sounds like a credit to the whole LGBT community.

I was actually betting with myself how long it would take you or one of your pals to say almost EXACTLY this.

Do try harder.

Brainwashing and indoctrination, and regurgitating verbatim nonsense from a website is not the same as coming to conclusions via free thinking, research and considered thought.

Children shouldn't be treated as your robot propaganda, which is what a lot of people seem to want.

I'm working on my daughter, still.

She ways thought the sports thing was ridiculous. But she was still TWAW, even saying some could be lesbians (she's gay)... Pro child transition, because she believes they don't desist. She trotted out detransition data to support this, not grasping it's not the same thing. She was literally reciting verbatim stuff I've read on social media, so I know she didn't check the source material (I'm obsessive, so I do). It's like talking to a religious but.

I think in five years she's going to look back at this and cringe.

You don't sound awfully concerned that "the future is looking super bleak", fup. Do better.

LaughingPriest · 05/09/2022 19:11

Well, it takes all sorts I guess, but one person in this thread has bizarrely chosen 'lazy zings to parents' as their life's single cause.
And they're not even very good at it Sad

I'm currently fundraising for 2 different causes while I wait for my tea to cook...

Zzzzzzzzzzzzz

Wonder if the fervent online trans activists ever get told this? That they should focus on some other more important fight? It's probably more likely that this happens to women and women's issues.

You're clearly worried about far more important issues than women's rights, @Fupoffyagrasshole. Perhaps best you don't waste your time on this feminist forum...

ah when the Country is uninhabitable in a few years and everyone is fucked because of climate change and the future is looking super bleak - I'm sure you will take comfort knowing you spent your time focusing on this as your fight.

Absolutely right, because women must never fight for themselves. It's so unfeminine. Good to see someone still respects the old traditions, when there's so much change all around us.

Thanks for posting, Fupoff. You've reminded this old feminist of the 1970s, when our leftie comrades earnestly assured us that women's issues would be dealt with as soon as we'd established workers' control of the means of production. But for the present, tackling women's issues was a capitalist ploy to take our minds off the true struggle. Our campaigns were 'diversionary'.

Fast forward 50 years and we're told we can't even talk about women's issues or have single-sex meetings. Now our campaigns are 'bigoted'. It feels like being lectured by exactly the same posturing middle-class wankers as in the 1970s. Must be their grandchildren!

My teen DD is quietly gender critical. She’s always been massively sporty, so I think the issue was forced for her in terms of making up her mind when she started seeing men winning in womens elite sporting categories. She’s luckily formed a friendship group with other sporty, take no shit girls none of whom seem to have bought into the trans ideology. They still take all the non binary identity stuff more seriously than I do, but I’m quietly confident they’ll grow out of that.

Autistic teen DS is a breath of fresh air on this issue. He is very low key and doesn’t rock the boat socially, which I’m glad of as he is quite vulnerable and has enough battles to fight already, but he is massively eye rolly about all of it. Trans ideology, gender identity, all the stupid pronouns etc. He recently said to me very deadpan over breakfast while scrolling Twitter on his phone ‘So, Mum, apparently men are having periods now, did you know?’ and we shared a massive eye roll together.

YetAnotherWalk · 05/09/2022 17:59

I've tried to have the conversation once and it ended in DD crying. Very much in the Be kind frame of mind. I'm hoping that sports will help (she plays and can see the difference between the female and male teams) but I haven't tackled it head on again since.

Yes, I want my daughters to grow up in a world where women matter, their voices are heard, and they know how to protect the erosion of their rights, healthcare, language and dignity.
It IS possible to care about a number of things at once.

Shouldn't you be off super gluing yourself to a painting somewhere? Off you pop.

Well done to you OP but it's a lost cause. School and Unis have adopted hook, line and sinker the woke and cancel culture and will ride rough shod over parent's rights.. and what is in fact right.

pantsofshame · 05/09/2022 16:58

I think the tide is slowly starting to change. DD has a number friends who consider themselves to be trans or non-binary so we've had some discussions on the subject. In discussions with her I've always made it clear that I am not transphobic but do worry about the impact on young people (particularly lesbians) of telling them that if they don't conform to gender stereotypes they need to change their identity and how we are safeguarding women if any man who says he feels female has access to women's safe spaces and sports. I've suggested all her friends might be happier if we challenged the gender stereotypes so society would not think anything of a boy who likes make-up and musical theatre or a girl who likes sport and is attracted to other women.

6 months ago her stance was very strongly TWAW, no debate, #bekind. During a discussion about self ID she stormed off shouting 'Fuck off terf' at me. A few weeks ago I heard her say to a friend 'but of course, gender is just a social construct'. She's also agreed with me that it's dangerous to have biological male inmates in female prisons. I'm keeping fairly quiet now and letting her join some more of the dots for herself.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 05/09/2022 16:55

Yeah, I'll be sad that the Green Party got sidetracked by identity activists from fighting on climate change and environmental issues focussing on ousting GC members.

Indeed. They are sending such an excellent message to the world about the urgency of the environmental disasters facing us with their luxury belief gender politicking.

Great news OP. I think/hope the "trans" fad is dissipating.

What we really need to kill it off once and for all is for lots of tedious middle aged women like me declaring ourselves "trans". The kids would move on to a different form of rebellion. Hopefully one that involves forming bands and writing songs, ghastly teenage poetry, that sort of thing....

Yeah, wish I could vote for the Greens. Why are they wasting their time on this nonsense? I do what I can, but it's not a patch on what they could achieve if they weren't so set on alienating their potential supporters.

No @ArabellaScott i just think this is a massive waste of time when you could literally be doing anything else with your time.

The rights of women and my daughter's future are a massive waste of time?

Depends on your perspective, I suppose.

To be fair to Fup, I should be working on a climate change project right now (or at least once I've finished my coffee).

I wish those campaigning for loss of female-only protections would stop doing so, and go and prioritise climate too. There are better ways of providing facilities for gender-diverse people than taking them from women, and it's also much cheaper than tackling climate issues.

It beats me why shoehorning male people into female facilities seems such an important aim for anyone.

If the climate really goes wonky and the shit hits the fan with regard to living in a society mediated through reproductive tech, it's going to become very clear that men and women are not interchangeable.
