Ooh, Jammela!
I so, so adore you and the rest!
But we're not doing any fucking work for you!
We're so totally non-binary we literally can't.

ErrolTheDragon · 04/09/2022 13:58

The thing about not littering a profile name with lots of emojis because it's tough for people who use screen readers seems like a generally sensible point, but isn't it harder for them if they too have to check a bio for pronouns rather than it being there in the profile name?

lemmein · 04/09/2022 13:58

They are all fucking mad - all so feckin 'speshul', annoying fucks!

(3 fucks in one sentence is a PB for me! 👸🏻)

Jameela Jamil slammed for telling trans people ‘how to stop being misgendered’
LILY WAKEFIELD SEPTEMBER 3, 2022

Jameela Jamil has been slammed on social media for “giving instructions to trans people on how to stop being misgendered”.

On Friday (2 September), the presenter and actor accidentally described a non-binary social media user as a “woman” during a Twitter spat.

But, rather than simply apologising and correcting herself, she laid out some guidelines for trans folk on how to avoid being misgendered.

SHE TWEETED: “I INSTANTLY CORRECTED MYSELF BUT NOBODY READS YOUR BIOS PEOPLE.

“PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR PRONOUNS IN YOUR NAME ON HERE TO PREVENT MISUNDERSTANDINGS/ OFFENCE IF IT’S IMPORTANT TO YOU.

OBVIOUSLY sorry for making this innocent mistake. But if we don’t do more to prevent this mistake it will likely keep happening, which is bad for everyone.

“Put pronouns in your names. I’ve just done that with mine. It took two seconds.”

Jamil, who came out as queer in 2020, was quickly told by many of her followers that trans people should not be responsible for stopping others misgendering them.

One follower told Jamil: “Jameela I’m a big fan (and I do have pronouns in my name) but respectfully it’s not really OK to blame the person you misgendered for misgendering them. It takes two seconds before any interaction to just check the bio.”

“You’re putting the blame on the person you misgendered by saying they aren’t presenting the information in a way that works best for you,” said another. “If you want to be an ally, then own the blame fully yourself and take an extra second to check the bio.”

Activist Felix Fern told her: “I adore you, but this is not it.”

On top of telling trans folk to take responsibility for being misgendered, Fern explained that by adding extra words and emojis to her Twitter profile name, Jamil was making life “more complicated for screen readers”.

They continued: “You’re telling people to do the work for you, when it takes two seconds to check a bio before assuming a pronoun.

“If you’re not sure, either check and/or use gender neutral pronouns like they/them.

“Don’t blame the person you misgendered for your error, and then encourage people to make their profile names less accessible.”

I'm actually starting to feel a bit sorry for her, she got this response to saying she's been getting death threats

Worlds gone mad

But how can we tell the actual transphobes from people who just look like transphobes? What is to stop someone pretending to be something they aren’t just to fit in?

How is it possible to misgender a non-binary person?

also, what jobs do these self-obsessed people do day-to-day?

In a recent NHS meeting with fewer than 20 attendees, 3 were non-binary.

I should think it's not that uncommon in workplaces that aspire to high positions on the WEI.

It was strongly rumoured that a fair number of people in creative industries used to attend a lot of AA meetings (or NA/similar) for networking and not because they had the problem. There's value in a particular status/condition at times.

I’ve been enjoying watching the fallout.

Some of the replies! This one is particularly fragile. She even objected to Jamil trying to change the subject by drawing attention to a charity appeal for Pakistan.

I'm not on twitter. Has anyone checked bio? This seems like a parody!? Could it be someone like Tatiana McGrath? It's just so far out there!

'Pronouns' e/em/eirs' ...maybe easier in a Yorkshire accent?

In addition for the appalling elevation of this 'issue' over the humanitarian disaster in Pakistan, I'm sure I'm not the only person who finds the now commonplace use of language like 'triggered', originally applicable to people suffering from real traumas, PTSD etc reprehensible.

Women who have experienced male violence or sexual violence are often genuinely triggered by the presence of males in spaces where women are vulnerable. We're told to "reframe" this or "educate ourselves". Statements that belie a complete lack of understanding of the nature of trauma.

Abhannmor · 04/09/2022 11:34

Yes @ErrolTheDragon ! They scream and howl about poxy meaningless made up words. No compassion for fellow flesh and blood human beings.

Ah the 'triggered' need time to 'heal'

😂 😂 😂

Are these guys for real?

I adore Titania. Still crease up at her Twitter bio (and her pic)

Ffsjustltb · 04/09/2022 09:46

Oh Tatiana ❤️. Trouble is they them don't realise it's a parody. 😂

Soubriquet · 04/09/2022 09:32

Jesus fucking Christ.

If that continues, we are going to have such a problem in the future.

”My name is Soubriquet. I am a non black white person. My pronouns are she/her. I identify as a biological woman. What about you?”

Way too much of a faff.

How freaking self absorbed do you have to be to post something that callous?

Pakistan needs the funds before hurt feelings

I can't really tell- is that original tweet from a male woman or a female woman? Did JJ originally think she was actually gaining TRA bonus points by referring to them as a woman, but then that blew up in her face?

What this should really show all women (the original cunty kind) is that being a fierce TRA support leaves you even more vulnerable to attack, because there's such inherent weakness in advertising yourself as someone who values the opinions of men above all else. And she's left herself nowhere to go. Any assertion that this person is being ridiculous is an admission that the whole belief system is a total beeping beep beep house of cards (self-censored to avoid deletion).

Musomama1 · 04/09/2022 08:17

"Never assume someone's gender"!!!

Let's hope that sentence dates badly in the future.

The million years of evolution to have the inbuilt operation of recognising someone's sex. Mother nature is such a TERF.

Joshanddonna · 04/09/2022 06:42

Poor JJ. I think it’s best if we all just stop speaking that way no one will have to suffer the appalling hideous trauma of being misgendered. Is there a crowdfund for this poor soul? I can cancel my donation to the Pakistan flood victims. So need is greater.
