Libs Of Tik Tok are being unfairly blamed for this after they exposed that the hospital offered 'gender affirming” hysterectomies on minors including 16-year-olds and “younger kids”'

US politics is different than UK politics. You are refusing to accept that we do not have independent politicians who work on achieving consensus on one issue at a time. The Republican party doesn't promote a feminist agenda. Its goal is the eradication of abortion rights, the dissolution of gay marriage along with employment protections, access to birth control, erosion of workers rights in general, and the removal of social support networks. When you work to empower them you are causing harm to women and children here and that's not acceptable to me. Even if you do really hate trans people or whatever it is that makes you think that issue is more important than all of the other things that makes someone a feminist.

I don't hate trans people. 🙄 I haven't given my feelings about anyone or anything.
I don't think the trans issue is more important than others. I don't even think it's that important for adults at all.
My comment actually referred to you never being able to agree with anything a Republican might say because it would be "getting into bed with them personally I'm very into animal welfare and I would work with anyone who would further that cause. However, if I did not agree with their stance on other things, I would still speak out against them. But I would use them to do my damnedest to achieve the most I could in furthering my aims in improving animal welfare. You're not surrendering all your principles to do both.
And by the way, Mark Burns couldn't even win a republican primary so it's not like his outrageous claims are representative of the republican party. Even Trump didn't back him!

Murica · 02/09/2022 00:56

Oh, also can you tell me which politicians want to execute parents of LGBT children. With elections coming up, that's important.

Murica · 02/09/2022 00:54

Boxowine, You're correct that BCH hasn't admitted that they are performing hysterectomies on minors. Until the last couple of weeks, for years their website said they do. Why wouldn't they say their website was incorrect and they've fixed it now. Surely that would have reasonable.

Also, BCH was not evacuated, so no one had to leave the NICU. Interestingly, the threat was called in at 8pm. The Boston police arrived at 9:20. The BPD is five literal minutes from BCH. What happened there, do you think? Did the hospital not take it seriously? Or did the police just amble on over?

Oops, I should have refreshed the page before posting something in response to a question that had already been answered. Apologies!

TheBiologyStupid · 01/09/2022 22:37

Can anyone explain why that’s suggested as a reason for the GRA?

The UK government was legally obliged to take action after its position was ruled against in 2002 by the European Court of Human Rights in Christine Goodwin v. United Kingdom. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goodwin_v_United_Kingdom

Introducing same-sex marriage would have been one possible solution, but the (second) Blair government didn't think it would have sufficient parliamentary or public support and so introduced what became the GRA instead, selling it as a minor administrative change affecting a very small number of people that was necessary to bring the UK into line with the ECHR.

Of course, we know that shortly afterwards (and despite Stonewall's initial opposition to it) the public was generally supportive of same-sex marriage. But by the time that the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Act 2013 was passed the Trojan horse that is the GRA had already been created and now we are in the messy position that we are.

Just to recap:

We are apparently all horrible people because we are concerned about hospitals’ own words indicating they do irreversible no-evidence surgeries on children and are grateful to be made aware of it, and even though we have condemned bomb threats, you can’t do both apparently, it’s only satisfactory if we condemn the possible bomb threat and also don’t show any concern for children 🙄.

But @PeopleRock and @Boxowine are the good guys because they have linked the bomb threat to the woman who revealed such information weeks ago despite no evidence or information about the threat linking the two it is in fact all her fault, and it would be best if no one talked about such surgeries taking place, either publicly in the media or on this forum because American politics is so volatile it’s best we stay silent about harm to children lest some lunatic takes a disproportionate response, and talking about harm to children is something only right wing people do anyway 🤨.

Yeah, ok, again I know which side of history I’d rather be on.

Stemadee · 01/09/2022 18:02

I’m at the point where I’ll take ‘right wing’

Same, they're the only side that seems to care about the protection of women and girls.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 01/09/2022 17:57

I’m at the point where I’ll take ‘right wing’

I’m a member of the Labour Party, but what the fuck? I know plenty of Tory voters and guess what? They’re all human. Actually most of them are nice people

Xiaoxiong · 01/09/2022 17:13

Most women on here are lefties. Disillusioned but still well on the left.

Anyone who doubts this just has to read the many, many threads about no longer knowing who to vote for. If we were "alt right", none of us would have the slightest qualm about voting Tory.

TheKeatingFive · 01/09/2022 17:02

Do you think that it's right to call in bomb threats to a children's hospital?

it's not an either or position though, is it. If bomb threats were made, that's illegal behaviour and needs to be investigated.

At the same time, we can start asking questions as to why we are allowing underage children to go through life changing surgeries

TheKeatingFive · 01/09/2022 16:53

I think we have to shut up and let children be mutilated, because objecting to the mutilation of children is the same as making bomb threats against a children's hospital.

I think it's that objecting to the surgery is something the alt right might do, so to also do that would be to besmirch our pure left credentials.

If that means the surgery continues, then so be it. Priorities.

OldCrone · 01/09/2022 16:45

AlisonDonut · 01/09/2022 16:00

Alt right is a very American concept.

Most women on here are lefties. Disillusioned but still well on the left.

Why should we stand down and let children be mutilated just to avoid being called 'alt right'? It's water off a ducks back.

Or something.

Why should I demonstrate respect for you or seek welcome from people ( again not all of you are women ) on a forum about women's rights when your activities affect my rights as a woman in my country? The posters here refuse to take any kind of ownership of how they impact women in the US. So defensive. If you want to be alt right, just own it.

I am interested in how deploring mastectomies for children affects your rights

that’s pretty much all I’ve seen posters do here

i don’t really know what alt right means I’m afraid. It’s not much of a thing in the UK

throwing around phrases like ‘that makes you my enemy’ makes it almost impossible to have a constructive conversation with you. Is that your aim?

FigRollsAlly · 01/09/2022 16:37

I think posters here are concerned by events in the US not just out of concern for the girls and women who live there but also because US culture has a much bigger influence on ours than vice versa. So much internet content is from the US and the language and ideas have permeated, especially amongst the young. My pre-teen, for example, now refers to bathrooms rather than loos or toilets and even sometimes talks in a semi American accent when giving an opinion on something.

Boxowine · 01/09/2022 15:54

No I don't. Do you think that it's right to call in bomb threats to a children's hospital?

Looks like nobody did call in bomb threatsyou can apologise in your next post if you want.

You don't know for fact if hysterectomies are being performed on minors at Boston Children's Hospital

We do know for a fact that they perform mastectomies on 15-year-old girls. It's on their website.

Chest reconstruction surgery is a procedure in which physicians remove excess breast tissue and create a more masculine appearance for your chest. Chest reconstruction can allow transmasculine people to live more easily in their affirmed gender. It is often the only surgical step in the gender affirmation process.

The clinicians in the Center for Gender Surgery at Boston Children's Hospital offer chest reconstruction surgery as a gender affirmation procedure to eligible patients who have documented and persistent gender dysphoria and who are over age 18 (or over age 15 with parental consent).

www.childrenshospital.org/treatments/chest-reconstruction

Do you think it is appropriate to remove the breasts of teenage girls who have no physical illness?

No I don't. Do you think that it's right to call in bomb threats to a children's hospital?

I am more than willing to share my perception of this forum

that’s abundantly clear, thank you

you make interesting and useful points such as pointing out the funding model for Libs of Tiktok and the Astro turfing that’s clearly going on in social media, but then hamstring your self by segueing directly to accusing all and sundry of being alt right and in some sort of ‘basket’

maybe if you started from a position of mutual respect rather than throwing phrases like ‘anti trans’ around, you’d get a warmer welcome?

Boxowine · 01/09/2022 15:42

There's a reason why the posters on this site ( not all of whom are women ) appreciate Libs of Tik Tok and Kiwi Farms so much and it's not just the trans stuff. It's the whole package.

Boxowine · 01/09/2022 15:38

TheKeatingFive · 01/09/2022 15:19

They don't have such audio recordings because that's a different hospital.

Okay, they have it on their website. The other hospital admitted on tape. Do you agree both should be investigated further? Or no?

There is no coming back from this because we are now getting into terrorism and armed conflict, which is all too familiar in the US. So if you don't like being regarded as the alt right, don't get in their basket.

So just trying to understand this fully.

Because you don't want to be associated with the alt right, you're advocating turning a blind eye to hospitals admitting (on websites or recorded conversations) to doing hysterectomies on minors? Is that correct?

Because condemning something the alt right also condemns is not an option for you?

Again, you are incorrect with your facts. Boston Children's Hospital did not have it on their website that they perform hysterectomies on minors children, nor is there an audio recording from their staff admitting that they do so.

You are repeating false information which has most likely inspired a terroristic threat against a hospital that provides medical services for an enormous number of children. Such activity impacts the operation of that hospital and the care those children receive.

By repeating false information, you are electing to become part of the problem. Therefore, I regard you as an enemy.

You also called me stupid when you are the one repeating lies that are easily fact checked.

You don't need to reframe anything. I don't perform these medical procedures, I don't support them, I have spoken against them repeatedly. I just don't promote the alt right while doing so because I understand that doing so causes as much harm as it prevents.
We don't have to burn the village in order to save it.

But it's okay. I see you

You don't see me because you're blinded by your own righteousness.

Boxowine · 01/09/2022 15:26

@nauticant I don't think that's what you meant at all, white Southerners tend to be extremely conservative. Especially rural ones. But that expression is part of another vernacular, and I think that's what you were referring to. But it's okay. I see you
