Lesbians not welcome at Gay Pride

This is horrifying. Women (lesbians) told by police they are going to be removed because abuse is being hurled at these women.

Police do nothing about the person shouting the abuse.

Why do you think polls are weighted by age, gender, region and voting record? Because those are distinct demographics with distinct views.

People from different regions have views that ONLY THOSE PEOPLE IN THOSE REGIONS have. And presumably when they move across a regional border, they change their views to fit their new region. Right.

LaughingPriest · 03/09/2022 14:46

"1,000 women will have different views to 1,000 men"

Break this down. Do you mean that each woman thinks the same as the other women, and all the men think the same but different from the women?

Do you think that any woman and any man might share the same 'views'? Can you give an example of a single 'view' where what you have said would be true?

You're either just plainly embarrassingly incorrect and posting untruths or don't know how to use words to accurately say what you're trying to claim. Have a go.

LaughingPriest · 03/09/2022 14:43

LGBT people are a distinct community within the general population with distinct opinions.

I'm straight. I think the Tories are bad.

Are you genuinely arguing that LGBT people think differently from me BECAUSE OF their sexuality or trans status?

Did you actually mean 'distinct' there or is it just another example of using any old word regardless of what it actually means? I genuinely can't tell with this homophobic crap.

TheClogLady · 03/09/2022 14:39

How come various new standalone ‘Trans Pride’ events have popped up in recent years, Hearach15 ?

(Trans Pride Brighton 2013, Trans Pride Leeds 2018, Trans Pride London 2019)

Ereshkigalangcleg · 03/09/2022 14:34

Poll 1,000 LGBT people and they'll have different views to 1,000 straight people.

"LGBT" doesn't correlate with being "non-straight". LGB does. There are many straight trans people.

IcakethereforeIam · 03/09/2022 14:28

That's not what you said.

What was transphobic about the banners that Get the L Out had?

Hearach15 · 03/09/2022 14:11

IcakethereforeIam · 03/09/2022 12:57

So you admit pride is a trans event, refreshing honesty for once.

That book you recommended, 'from out of the shadows'! Makes transpeople sound quite sinister. I think that's transphobic.

Also, a reviewer complains all the stories in it are white and middle class Grin.

If we're recommending books read Trans by Helen Joyce.

Calling LGB Alliance a hate group is libellous, hope they're not feeling litigious

"So you admit pride is a trans event, refreshing honesty for once."

Not sure why you think it's a "gotcha" moment when I say an LGBT event includes the T.

LaughingPriest · 03/09/2022 14:10

Yes Pride is an event for the LGBT community. Do you know what the T stands for?

So if trans people are included in something that's for them as well as other groups of people, you are happy that that is a 'trans event', yes?

Hearach15 · 03/09/2022 14:09

NotBadConsidering · 03/09/2022 12:54

Yep, good to see it confirmed. Pride is all about the T, which we all know and @Hearach15 confirms.

All about the LGBT community actually. If you think it's only about the T it shows how little you know about the event.

Hearach15 · 03/09/2022 14:09

Helleofabore · 03/09/2022 12:52

And yet, why would you think that LGBT people will be any more or less tolerant?

What evidence do you have to support that? Your anecdotes?

LGBT people are a distinct community within the general population with distinct opinions.

Why do you think polls are weighted by age, gender, region and voting record? Because those are distinct demographics with distinct views.

Poll 1,000 people aged 18-24 and they'll have different views to those aged over 65.

Poll 1,000 LGBT people and they'll have different views to 1,000 straight people.

1,000 women will have different views to 1,000 men and as we saw in the EU referendum people in Scotland have different views to those in England and Wales on Brexit.

Hope that helps! always happy to teach you about politics as well as LGBT issues.

Datun · 03/09/2022 14:06

"You could not do a compilation of feminists yelling at and disrupting trans events"

"This exactly what Get the L Out did at Pride"

when you're right, you're right.

Yes Pride is an event for the LGBT community. Do you know what the T stands for?

Datun · 03/09/2022 14:03

"No self-respecting LGB person I know attends Pride any more because it sold out to commercialism years ago."

"Odd because ... 90% of my LGB mates go."

It honestly just writes itself, doesn't it 😁

Datun · 03/09/2022 14:01

NecessaryScene · 03/09/2022 12:42

Shall I post the other YouGov report about just how intolerant the age group 18-28 and 28-38 are in comparison to the rest of the UK society. That one is eye opening.

Never mind about reading - just watch their antics. A great compilation of the hate mobs of recent years from that "What if JK Rowling is right about everything" video someone did recently - link is to relevant section at 43:00, hopefully.

There is no corresponding behaviour from the other side. You could not do a compilation of feminists yelling at and disrupting trans events, cos it never happens.

(Although I guess sometimes women sit in the audience and ask questions. Or don't laugh at the right times.)

The way he edited all that is genius.

"My pronouns are they you fucking cunt" is a family joke at Chez Datun.

OldCrone · 03/09/2022 13:56

Interesting that you should recommend a book by Christine Burns.

@PencilsInSpace posted about Burns' previous book Pressing Matters back in 2018.

www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/3463920-Lets-go-back-to-2007?reply=83696520

Some interesting bits from that post:
The trans rights movement started with the Beaumont Society - a club for heterosexual cross-dressing men and their wives. TS could join too but they said no to drag queens because homophobia.

The various demographics have been inseparable throughout PFC history. They championed the use of the word trans as it did not discriminate between TS and TV.

So it was never a case of the trans (as in TS) umbrella widening to include TVs and cross-dressers, rather it was the TV and cross-dressers umbrella widening to include TS.

What Christine Burns explains in that book is that the modern trans rights movement started with a group of homophobic, heterosexual, cross-dressing men.

That whole thread is worth a read. 'Trans Britain' gets a mention on there as well.

LaughingPriest · 03/09/2022 13:41

Sorry I just happen to know that the LGBT community has distinct views the the British general population.

See - what would we do without our self-appointed LGBT expert here to impart such wisdom?
Incoherent, inconsistent word mashup that doesn't say anything.

LaughingPriest · 03/09/2022 13:39

Hearach15 · 03/09/2022 12:48

LGB Alliance and Get the L Out (of LGBT) are transphobic. Hope that helps!

So when you said to Wanda "Only someone with no involvement in the community thinks it's full of "straights". You must be confusing the average LGBT organisation with the LGB Alliance. Now that really is a movement for straights. -

you were claiming that Wanda confused 'Get the L Out', which you say is 'the average LGBT organisation', with the LGBA.

But you were saying 'the average LGBT organisation' is one that represents the LGBT community.

So you are NOW claiming that Get The L Out represents the LGBT community which is "why it won't split."

Again - The fact you can't even explain what you yourself are talking about half the time is clear to everyone. And when you try to explain you get caught in untruths.

LuftBalloons · 03/09/2022 13:39

Although I guess sometimes women sit in the audience and ask questions. Or don't laugh at the right times.

And sometimes lesbians sit on chairs.

Terrifying

Helleofabore · 03/09/2022 13:22

Pride is a trans event? Hmm...

That is a classic.

NecessaryScene · 03/09/2022 13:06

This is where we mathematicians break out the QED ("quod erat demonstrandum" - that which was to be demonstrated), and nip off for a beer.

well to be fair they said they were brainwashed the other day so that was very honest as well

Have you heard of the margin of error and subsampling?

So for example, if you poll people UK wide and ask them how they intend to vote you will get a picture that should be accurate within 3% plus or minus.

However, the margin of error will be much higher within certain regions because you will poll a much smaller number there. That is why the subsample of UK wide polls generally give a very poor picture of Scottish voting opinion because the margin of error is much higher within a subsample.

Explained in detail here:

anthonybmasters.medium.com/the-sub-sample-problem-ed15421c5d39

Scots make up 9% of the UK population, the LGBT population is roughly 5%. So the margin of error is even higher within that poll.

Furthermore, can you tell me whether it was even weighted to include LGBT people? Most polls are weighted by age, region, voting record and gender. Never seen one weighted with the LGBT population in mind. Can you confirm whether this is the case?

And yet, why would you think that LGBT people will be any more or less tolerant?

What evidence do you have to support that? Your anecdotes?
