Do they they not know that she had a death threat made against her? I suppose they think only threats against male authors are important.

Picture is from the latest issue.

I agree, I think this is the point being made. It's the new Godwin's law - perhaps we should name it?

Possibly "Goodwin's law" after the case that led to the GRA? en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goodwin_v_United_Kingdom

It's not her fault that the Daily Mail take every tweet she makes or likes and use it to push their anti-trans agenda

The Daily Fail did no such thing

TRAs have such hair triggers, that any mention of JKR provokes another attack on her, regardless of what she makes a statement about.

Support Ukraine? - Transphobe!

Encourage England Ladies Football - Transphobe!

Support Salman Rushdie and free speech - OMG! How dare you bring your transphobia into this!

Any statement by JKR, regardless of how innocuous, will create a reaction from the usual suspects.

ErrolTheDragon · 24/08/2022 21:20

Quite so, Rufus.

I think they're making the opposite point than what you read it as

This ☝️

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 24/08/2022 21:14

errol

i think point 4 is the issue here

ErrolTheDragon · 24/08/2022 21:09
  1. JKR tweets/retweets/likes something
  1. JKR gets more rape and/or death threats
  1. The DM may pick this up.

4 JKR gets snide insinuations made about her.

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 24/08/2022 20:42

No

jkr can do whtever she likes is a cop out when you’ve said that JKR knows that she only has to like a tweet and the right wing media will jump on it and make it about trans rights

No it's not, who are you or I to tell someone else how to behave?

We all know how it goes by now:

  1. JKR tweets/retweets/likes something
  1. Daily Mail print story about that tweet
  1. The Times expand on the story
  1. Julie Hartley-Brewer has someone such as Maya Forstater on Talk TV to talk about the story
  1. Graham Linehan goes on GB News to tell everyone how TRAs stole his family again

You havent answered the question

what do you suggest she do about it?

Yes I did, it's right there in what you quoted

JKR can do whatever she chooses

It's nothing to do with me 🤷‍♀️

BloodAndFire · 24/08/2022 20:26

Clymene · 24/08/2022 16:04

It's not having a pop at JKR nor is it anything to do with the daily mail. It's to do with that odious woman Joanne Harris.

correct, they clarify that at greater length on page 31

Ereshkigalangcleg · 24/08/2022 20:25

If she's on Mumsnet she does now

Hope she is!

JKR can do whatever she chooses, I said

JKR knows that she only has to like a tweet and the right wing media will jump on it and make it about trans rights.

I know that, she knows that and you know that.

You havent answered the question

WandaWomblesaurus · 24/08/2022 18:40

JKR didn't make it into a trans issue.
The Daily Mail didn't make it into a trans issue.
The Transactivist Twitter mob turned it into a trans are the most oppressed ever ever ever issue.

nauticant · 24/08/2022 17:07

You appear to be going down the "X can be both A and B at the same time" route with that post SpinCityBlues.

That level of nuance just doesn't work with trans activists, they like "if X is A then is cannot be B". Which, ironically, is a rather binary way of looking at the world.

Don't be silly.
We all know that she knows that they know that. The really important question is whether she knows that we know that she knows they know that she knows.

Grin

That made me laugh!

SpinCityBlues · 24/08/2022 16:08

How anyone could think that an agenda of the daily mail is "being pro women's rights" is beyond me.

Well to be fair, maybe there's a corner of it that is, the one that features articles by Julie Bindel and Suzanne Moore and even a newly-invigorated Sarah Vine, and many others actually these days since they got hounded out of other papers by a bunch of misogynists.

The rest of it is a money-making machine and political sausage factory, yes.

Private Eye's kind of satire is, Killer asteroid hurtling inexorably towards earth! JK Rowling tweets farewell and trans rights committee meets to discuss implications of tweet.

TambourineOfRepentance · 24/08/2022 16:01

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 24/08/2022 15:50

You're both incorrect.

The Daily Mail has a selling-newspapers-agenda and a get-you-all-clicking-agenda.

Exactly. The Daily Mail writes what it knows will appeal to its core readers. And, in the absence of "Commie Corbyn ran over my dog", they revert to their "war on woke".

How anyone could think that an agenda of the daily mail is "being pro women's rights" is beyond me.

IcakethereforeIam · 24/08/2022 15:59
