Drag Queen Robert Clothier convicted (TW)

A drag queen named Robert Clothier (stage name Lady James) arranged a ‘liaison’ with a man and his two young children, for the purposes of a sexual encounter with the man and to assault/rape the children. It was a police sting. He has just been convicted and sentenced to 26 months in prison.

There is a difference of category between pantomime dames and modern ‘drag queens’. This isn’t theatre culture or acting; it’s a lifestyle, and a sexualised one.

I hope he serves every day of that time.

There are drag queens and kings out there that do readings for children in libraries, there is a children's cartoon (Drag Tots) there are books for children about drag queens.

Trust me, we're aware.

Are you aware of how one such performer in America at a children's storytime turned out to be in a miniskirt and without underwear?

Have you seen the photos of himself that the main storytime organiser in the UK uploads? Are you aware that he bragged about leading a group of parents and children to ignore a fire alarm for ten minutes?

Finally. Some sense.
Also, good choices for pictures. Fabulous artists.

No problem.
I'll whack on a drag king now too. It's not just mej doing it! They also had a bio queen on a season of RPDR UK. (Victoria Scone, attached)

What a thread. Find a crime a person from a specific group did 9 years ago - let's use it to smear the lot! Wow.

I don't even know where to begin but you made a good job, thank you. Drag is an artistic expression. Noone is forcing anyone to watch it if it's not your thing.

And that character is always a highly sexualized, often mockingly dressed, woman.

No it's not.

it's self expression of a character they have created and feel comfortable in

Maybe refresh yourself with the art form or return yourself back to the 1900's with that opinion.

I’m trying to be both careful and honest about what I think. Here goes... I don’t think all drag queens are paedophiles. I think it’s part of what you might loosely call ‘queer’ culture. But that means it’s not what some people try to say it is: a form of children’s entertainment. It’s a performance of (typically) flamboyance linked to the expression of homosexuality. But because it is a form of sexual expression, I don’t think it should involve kids at all.

Fucking Hell - what a backwards view on an art form.
Not all drag queens make sexual risky jokes, it's not about 'an expression of homosexuality'. Get out of the dark ages.
Their sexuality has nothing to do with the art form they create - it's self expression of a character they have created and feel comfortable in. Some are musicians, dancers, singers, presenters, comedians etc.
Everyone out there has the capability of being a predator, it doesn't matter what your job is. Dont lob them all in together because of a few bad apples.
There are drag queens and kings out there that do readings for children in libraries, there is a children's cartoon (Drag Tots) there are books for children about drag queens.
Stop being so scared and educate yourself instead of thinking they are going to corrupt your children. Your backwards thinking will do that just fine.

If people want something more current, a man called Brice Williams, a drag queen in Pennsylvania who has taken bookings to perform for children, has been charged with 25 counts of possession of child abuse imagery. That's in the last month or so

You seem to be insinuating that all Drag Queens are paedophiles. In fact, no. You're outright saying it. They are not.”

How many drag queen peadophiles are acceptable to you?

Myra Hyndley was a women - how many female child murderers are acceptable to you?

I should think none.

I take it you are including Mira Hindley as
a paedophile, as the point made was about paedophiles.

From the ONS
Child sexual abuse in England and Wales: year ending March 2019

The majority of perpetrators of sexual abuse before the age of 16 years were males

Around 9 in 10 adults (92%) experienced sexual abuse committed by males only. A further 4% experienced sexual abuse committed by both males and females, and 4% experienced sexual abuse by females only

(I hope the ONS data is not based on statistics recording trans women abusers as female).

I see everyone had realised. I am sorry for not having rtft.

Not that many of the discussions on the thread are any les relevant for being based on an old story.

ScrollingLeaves · 14/08/2022 21:01

Hang on - this is an old story from 2013.

Officers found glow-in-the-dark condoms, Easter eggs and toys on him

Clothier, who also goes by the name Lady James, was jailed for 26 months

Drag Queen made joke about being a sex offender at Brighton Pride festival

Now I wouldn’t be trying to suggest people doing burlesque are more likely than anyone else to be paedophiles. That would be silly. But if they wanted to go to my daughters’ school and do their act? Then I would say they were more likely. The appetite to perform a sexualised stereotype in front of children is a red flag.

I guess for me it’s a question of whether drag is closer to something like ballet or to burlesque. Both are dancing, both involve costume. But I wouldn’t take my 6 year old to watch burlesque, because it’s designed to be risqué. Same with drag.

Interesting to consider the growth of drag queen story time since this case.

@iklboo

No, I’m not. I’m saying I think drag is a sexualised form of self-expression. Not like being a pantomime dame.

It may have happened a few years ago but it still happened!!

Cailleach1 · 14/08/2022 16:44

Those recorded in the WiSpa showed some people excusing a male exposing themselves to minors. Indeed with disapproval of the brave woman who refused to look the other way at such a thing. Yet that person who allegedly exposed their genitals in the proximity of a child allegedly had priors; I presume from a time where it was not so 'du jour' among certain types of people to excuse a male exposing themselves to minors.

RudsyFarmer · 14/08/2022 16:42

That was an awfully lenient sentence!!!!
