I see a certain so-called 'campaiging lawyer' has managed to get Nick Cohen suspended because of his gender critical views.

If a man behaves in an inappropriate way to women on even just one occasion he is a lowlife and should face repercussions.

If a man behaves in an inappropriate way to women on even just one occasion and supports male use of female single sex spaces then he is a lowlife and should face repercussions.

If a man behaves in an inappropriate way to women on even just one occasion but pretends to support womens rights does not believe that TWAA then he is a lowlife and should face repercussions.

I am really not sure what Transpeople have to do with anything here or what TRAs have done wrong.

If maugham has went after a bad un then we have someone of questionable morals going after a bad un.

If it makes one more misogynist man who assaults women face the consequences then good.

Catherina herself made the connection:

Another sign that the anti-trans media are NOT about "protecting women"

Indeed, it's never been about protecting women for these people.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 03/08/2022 09:28

If someone is groping young women and Jo Maugham is highlighting this, "trans" has little to do with the suspension of said someone from their job.

I agree. Then why is it being reported as "a trans rights row"?

Because the British press have it in for trans people. Once you work that out the coverage makes much more sense.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 03/08/2022 13:07

I've now read the paywalled article and it explains the trans angle.

Hearach15 · 03/08/2022 13:06

Ereshkigalangcleg · 03/08/2022 09:12

What's the trans angle? I can't see any mention of it in the non paywalled articles?

It's nothing to do with trans people or their rights. It's more gutter journalism in which everything that goes wrong in the world is blamed on trans people.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 03/08/2022 13:05

It should be investigated and dealt with properly. Not sure why it's being linked to an "trans rights row"!

Because that was apparently Foxy's original motivation, he asked for dirt from women on Cohen because he didn't like what Cohen said about people being cancelled due to their trans views. Maybe he had already heard rumours, who knows?

Tanith · 03/08/2022 13:02

Why has an investigation and suspension only now been put in place?

It sounds as though women’s complaints have been ignored for years and it’s only when a man raises them that action is taken.

Isn’t that the real issue?

itsabouttimetoo · 03/08/2022 12:59

@itsabouttimetoo 2 - 0 😘

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 03/08/2022 12:48

There have been gropey sex pest rumours about Cohen for years now. So let's see.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 03/08/2022 12:44

Not to deny or diminish the accusations against him, but knowing what working life was like for young women in 2001, I doubt he was the only one doing it. But it's a very good thing if the whole male culture of these workplaces gets exposed and anyone responsible faces consequences.

Thank you.

What @Ereshkigalangcleg said. I find the allegations against Nick Cohen concerning and I hope they are investigated. I'm sorry that it apparently took a male lawyer tweeting about the allegations to get this investigation under way but perhaps it was happening anyway.

In related news, I really like Nick Cohen's writing and find it thought provoking even when I don't agree.

. I . I find it sad that as soon as someone throws "trans" into the room, women are no longer believed and the man is to be protected. it sad that as soon as someone throws "trans" into the room, women are no longer believed and the man is to be protected.

Just like the lesbians saying they were coerced into sex with males who identify as women. They were also told to shut up because they were smearing all "translesbians"

Ereshkigalangcleg · 03/08/2022 08:47

I can't read it, is there any sort of share token? What is Maugham alleging?

Here's an archived copy, @Ereshkigalangcleg . It seems that Maugham asked women to come forward if they had worked with Nick Cohen. One of the complaints about him goes back 17 years.

Someone upthread literally said the accusers might be lying TRAs

That's what an investigation is for.

😒

TedMullins · 03/08/2022 12:16

LK1972 · 03/08/2022 11:42

@TedMullins I can't see a single person on this thread saying Cohen shouldn't be investigated if there are complaints Hmm

Floisme · 03/08/2022 09:40

I don't really care who's behind it or what their reasons are as long as the truth comes out. Let the disciplinary take its course.

Same. Sometimes dickheads (like Maugham) can do good things.

sashagabadon · 03/08/2022 11:34

God, they are all hideously awful. And they both opine on the truthfulness and morality of others, including politicians, which is the most hypocritical thing about it.

MajorieEks · 03/08/2022 09:43

Implication is that Maugham went after Cohen because of his gender-critical views, and seized the opportunity presented by the allegations of sexual harassment.

I don't want to be thought of as a cynic or anything, but it's almost as if Maugham cares much more about taking down a political opponent than he does about women being sexually harassed.

TedMullins · 03/08/2022 11:24

CatherinaJTV · 03/08/2022 09:29

apparently, there's a 12 (?) year history of women complaining. I find it sad that as soon as someone throws "trans" into the room, women are no longer believed and the man is to be protected.

Is "believe women" no longer a thing?

Quite. This is nothing to do with trans issues. Nick Cohen has allegedly been groping and harassing young female staff and freelancers for over a decade. The fact that Jolyon Maugham and perhaps some of the accusers I’m speculating as I don’t know the accusers’ stance) have views on trans people that dont align with the gender critical view is irrelevant. Unless you think that if a woman supports trans rights it doesn’t matter if she’s been harassed or assaulted.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 03/08/2022 11:21

Shouldn't matter whether we agree with someone or not, multiple credible allegations need investigating, if true - there needs to be disciplinary action and a boot up the backside of the leadership team that would be tolerating this culture.

Yes. Zero argument from me.

CrowUpNorth · 03/08/2022 11:18

Powerful men always find ways to minimize and distract from their transgressions. Male feminists / protectors of women (whether GC or not) can be some of the worst. Shouldn't matter whether we agree with someone or not, multiple credible allegations need investigating, if true - there needs to be disciplinary action and a boot up the backside of the leadership team that would be tolerating this culture.

IvyTwines · 03/08/2022 10:54

Fox-killer wouldn't give a toss about Cohen if it wasn't for his other comments. It's like that actress who got sacked from the Mandalorian - it was her refusal to play the pronouns game that marked her card for axing.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 03/08/2022 10:07

Any trans ally forthwith quoting or linking to any of their articles should be called out and educated.

I hope LOJ is already drafting his noble resignation letter.
