Why would a business type account be liking anti trans type tweets in the first place?!

They didn't. There was nothing anti-trans in that tweet.

@GoodJanetBadJanet I'm not a TRA though. Is that what were calling anyone with an alternate view to the majority on here now?

I agree. I don't think the ploppers who come on here to make spurious non-sequiteurs are remotely interested in Trans Rights but TRA ia what a lot of them call themselves, so it's a common catch all term. I prefer Genderist. What would you prefer to use to refer to the belief that women's rights are transphobic?

Oh my, I didn't realise the Mother's Ruin Gin Palace was an actual place, with tasting menu, rather than Mumsnet fever-dream.Blush

And it's only an hour away, hmmmWink

There's a photo upthread or a link to one: it looks very festive.

Just fyi the "Old Tom Gin" produced by Mother's Ruin is absolutely cracking stuff. Totally recommended.

I have happy memories of, pre-covid, visiting the Mother's Ruin Gin Palace and very slowly working my way through one of their tasting menus. Only been once (don't often go that part of London) but would happily go again.

If an Amercan manufacturer of sleeveless white undershirts ironically named 'Wife Beater' retweeted a few Joanna Cherry & Kathleen Stock tweets would you defend them too?

I definitely wouldn't have waited for them to tweet something I don't like before realising they were wife beaters...

I especially won't have BOUGHT the t-shirt because I liked it and then chucked it in the bin NOT because of the name or insinuations but because they said something I disagreed with.

And then come to another group to tell them their associations are unrespectable...

Hardly professional, surely as a business you keep neutral and just like related stuff, especially when it's promoting the fact it's supporting Pride that weekend there, I mean WTF

Like Pride is neutral.. 😆

This is literally what we call irony.

Oh and you came on here to connect the thread to alcohol induced child neglect.

That's literally what 'Mother's Ruin' means.

Just ordered a bottle of sloe gin for a prezzie.

The hostility in here is intense. I’ve seen hundreds of posts from GC people wanting the word mother retained - hence the connection. Maybe lighten up a bit and stop seeing enemies everywhere?

Oh! I need to 'lighten up' and not 'see enemies everywhere' 😆.

From the person who mixed up mockery and celebration (own up, it's because you thought feminists are the enemy) and who thinks GC are hoarding the word mother (spoiler, we know the difference between policy and gin.). Rich.

Oh and you came on here to connect the thread to alcohol induced child neglect. Talk about hostility.

Projecting much?

Several G&Ts down, children dutifully neglected, prostitution considered but rejected as a career option. What did I miss?

ScreechingEchoChamber · 31/07/2022 21:27

If there's one thing feminists really love, it's being told to 'lighten up'. Might be 2nd favourite phrase coming in just after 'calm down, dear'.

HooverIsAlwaysBroken · 31/07/2022 21:18

Oh… sloe gin over tonic with most of ice, sounds quite amazing. I might place an order for gin.

and I am not that worried about starting to neglect my children and turning to prostitution 🤣.

Btw, I had to explain Pride and Prejudice to my DD the other day. She was aghast that Mr Darcy paid Wickham to marry Lydia as he was a despicable creep. She was struggling to get her head around the difference in values. That is how I view the saying “mother’s ruin”, something from a different time.

Perlunk · 31/07/2022 18:40

Mysterioso · 31/07/2022 16:35

It only paraphrases you as connecting ironic humour with celebrating.

I have no idea how you connected the humour with celebration and even less understanding of you connecting the word mother with gc.

Keep going. I like seeing these insinuation jumps which lump things together.

I'm just thinking a bit of sloe gin over ice with tonic would be a marvellous thing

Swift Dylan Thomas' Under Milk Wood throwback there. I always expected "the sloeback, slow, black" sequence to end in Gin rather than the "bobbing sea". Mostly because that's how my aunts rendered it.😊

See you say anti- trans but what you really mean is pro-women. Say it. Pro-women.

ScreamingMeMe · 31/07/2022 16:54

Perlunk · 31/07/2022 10:21

The brand name is based in the old trope that women who drink alcohol will neglect their children and turn to prostitution.

Nice…. Great brand to support on a feminist board.

To be fair, if a brand chooses to like GC causes from their twitter and not highlight any other political cause or viewpoint, that is an intentional brand positioning, which will push away people who do not take that position.

Have you never heard of irony?

A business can like whatever it wants to like. HTH

numlock · 31/07/2022 16:50

I had never heard of this company but now I've placed my first order. I do hope they get to see the effect of their cancellation in increased sales Smile
