Disappointed that people think this was funny or defended it.

timeisnotaline · 29/07/2022 04:55

I’m not defending displays of swastikas( I think displaying nazi symbols is illegal where I live although unclear whether this would clear the bar) but Harry didn’t display it. They clearly had nothing to arrest Laurence fox on, as being an objectionable person isn’t a criminal offence, although never seems to stop them when it’s women committing the alleged offence but arresting Harry miller was probably a mistake on their part!

AyeUpMeDuck · 29/07/2022 04:38

All someone has done is change the orientation anyone who sees patterns could have done this

The black stripe aligns perfectly with the spurs of the Nazi symbol. I can't unsee it now I've seen it. They could have just had the stripes as vertical stripes on the rainbow or added to the horizontal stripes of the rainbow.

twistylittlegirl · 29/07/2022 02:38

If you can't get it to play, pull the tab across to fast forward it for a few seconds.

GoodJanetBadJanet · 29/07/2022 02:16

And rainbows used to be a sign of hope
Still is

The swastika symbol also pre-dates the Nazis by millenia
So what if it does?
It was obvious what it was referring to in this case so not sure what saying "swastikas never used to be Nazis" is doing.

Ah...pleased to hear Harry released without charge.

Can you provide a link?

The video won't play for me, so I'm reading the comments on Twitter...did 3 police officers really turn up and say they were arresting the man because his post on Facebook had ''caused someone anxiety''?!!

That's what I heard but the sound isn't great.

looks like Harry will be held overnight.

TastefulRainbowUnicorn · 29/07/2022 00:38

That is pretty funny. I mean posting imagery of nazi germany in pride flags is not on. Glad they got arrested. Just a stop too far!

It's hilarous how much this sounds like a stereotyped Daily Mail reader. Only I think stereotypical Daily Mail readers at least know they're authoritarians.

TastefulRainbowUnicorn · 29/07/2022 00:34

I think Harry was arrested for obstruction. He was telling the officers that they had not followed the process properly and they arrested him

Wow. I suspect these officers are going to seriously regret this. Honestly one of the worst targets they could have picked for wrongful arrest.

exwhyzed · 29/07/2022 00:32

How come they arrested Harry Miller?

because he was irritating them and making them look incompetent.

Which like being offensive isn't a crime.

Yet.

Lovelyricepudding · 29/07/2022 00:31

Well the daily mail are going to have a field day with that.

which bright spark at TRA HQ decided setting the police on professional agitators Lawrence Fox and Harry Millar was going win hearts and minds.

when do you think the realisation will dawn that they just triptrapped onto a 'free speech' glue trap?

IKR?

Datun · 29/07/2022 00:29

So was it Laurence Fox who did that? How come they arrested Harry Miller?

I mean, I'm pretty certain that Harry Miller knows the law inside out and backwards. Not only is he an ex cop, this is his bread and butter. It's the entire raison d'être of his campaigning.

He knew they hadn't gone through the correct process, but more than that, he knew why they hadn't, and why they routinely don't, it appears.

Lovelyricepudding · 29/07/2022 00:28

who the hell is going to be on the lookout for possible swastikas in everything just in case somebody's head goes there?

Anyone involved in commercial design should cover this - it is pretty basic stuff.

EmmaH2022 · 29/07/2022 00:24

Callieach "then I think the display of those flags on Regent St. were equally as problematic as they were reminiscent of german rallies of a certain era."

I saw them in Holborn and was quite taken aback by the similarities. I thought it might just be me as I studied it for A level.

FemaleAndLearning · 29/07/2022 00:21

Here is the said image. It's been shared thousands of times. All someone has done is change the orientation anyone who sees patterns could have done this, but I really don't know what the law is around Nazi symbols?

Harry miller arrested
MangyInseam · 29/07/2022 00:20

I am pretty sure it's not illegal to display a swastika, even if you are doing so in order to say, "I love the Nazis."

Cailleach1 · 29/07/2022 00:12

Datun · 28/07/2022 23:56

Surely that's not an actual crime? Displaying a swastika? What have they been arrested for?

Dunno. Reminds me that Prince Harry wore a uniform to a party, replete with armband with swastika. It is displayed on books and films.

It is also a hindu religious symbol.

Whatever the rights and wrongs, I don't think the flags were doctored in any way. They were simply placed at various orientations. If this was problematic, then I think the display of those flags on Regent St. were equally as problematic as they were reminiscent of german rallies of a certain era.

The police have been explicitly told not to arrest people for causing offence.

dear God. Two vans of them. This is so not going to look good on the front page tomorrow.

I wonder if it comes under hate crime, trying to make something look like a swastika?

my confusion is that they were trying to arrest Harry? He isn't the one who posted it? So confused.
