If the police are trying to deal with someone and you get involved arguing with the police, you will probably get arrested but not charged.
You may be a middle-class woman who sees the police as a benevolent force and had no contact with them until now, but not all us come from that privilege.
There is a shade on this thread of - do they not know who I am.

I don't see them as benevolent, quite the contrary.

The point is they were dealing with a man won't let them get away with their normal if you piss off, we'll take you in.

He knows the law and he knows how to get it splashed across the media.

Hence:

The PCC saying

“I am concerned about both the proportionality and necessity of the police’s response to this incident. When incidents on social media receive not one but two visits from police officers, but burglaries and non-domestic break-ins don’t always get a police response, something is wrong.

“As Police Commissioner, I am committed to ensuring Hampshire Constabulary serves the public as the majority of people would expect. It appears on this occasion this has not happened."

i'm confused how you can say in one post that the arrest was legitimate because Harry pointing out their process is wrong was obstruction, and in the next breath saying that don't we all realise that the police are not benevolent.

Artichokeleaves · 29/07/2022 16:07

Gosh. What a police PR disaster this is going to turn out to be.

I'm assuming it means businesses but I could be wrong.

Well yes
but why specify those?

Don't be ridiculous. Just a page ago you said this:

I assume he was getting in the way of the police officers doing their job.

You can't walk your authoritarian bullshit assumptions back now that it's finally dawned on you that there's a conflict with the ACAB in your Twitter handle.

Why has the commissioner specified "non domestic break-ins", does anyone know?

I'm assuming it means businesses but I could be wrong.

Police and Crime Commissioner, Donna Jones responds to video published on Twitter involving Hampshire police officers regarding alleged hate crime
29 July 2022

The arrests were made yesterday (July 28) by the Constabulary following the report of an image being published on social media.

PCC Donna Jones: “I am aware of the video published on Twitter which shows the arrest of two men in Hampshire yesterday, one for malicious communications and one for obstruction of a police officer.

“I have taken this issue up with the Constabulary today and have been advised officers made the arrests following a complaint from a member of the public of an alleged hate crime.

“It follows a post on social media of Progress Pride flags in the shape of a Swastika.

It appears on this occasion this has not happened.

“This incident has highlighted a really topical issue which Hampshire Constabulary and other police forces need to learn from. In order to support this I will be writing to the College of Policing to make them aware of this incident and encourage greater clarification on the guidance in order to ensure that police forces can respond more appropriately in the future.”

Yes, everyone knows arguing with the police is an arrestable offence. As is looking at them funny or criticising their behaviour on a public forum.

At least, if it's not, it should be. Miller clearly had it coming.

Harry said he was arguing with the police officers.

Harry is an ex police officer who knows the law inside out and backwards, to the point where he has sued the college of policing, causing them to rewrite their policy.

He was pointing out that they were not adhering to procedure.

do you think that is something that constitutes obstruction?

Thank goodness for another reasonable person on this thread! If the police arrested him, he must have been doing something wrong.

I'd laugh if that wasn't such a bloody stupid statement.

It used to be that as a society we mocked people who couldn't distinguish between television characters and real life - the sort of people who yelled at Phil from Eastenders in the street. Nowadays, this is apparently considered to be a perfectly legitimate attitude towards fiction, and university students are encouraged to theorise about it in return for degrees in film studies.

Absolutely! The people who thought that Alf Garnett should be banned because the character was racist were the same. In fact, of course, the stupidity of Alf's views and the way that they were ridiculed by the other characters probably played a role in combating racism in the UK in that era. (I've no idea whether Alf's US incarnation, Archie Bunker, had the same effect over there.)

Remember Dr Konstancja Duff who was punitively strip-searched and the investigation took years to resolve and made her question her own sanity?

Thanks for sharing this because it's exactly what came to mind last night when I heard about HM's arrest. I just couldn't remember the woman's name.

Datun · 29/07/2022 15:16

How was he obstructing the police? He was just standing there. What constitutes the obstruction?

antelopevalley · 29/07/2022 15:10

ScreamingMeMe · 29/07/2022 14:37

No, that was someone else. He was basically there to offer support and advice, as he considered that the police had already dealt with the matter incorrectly. And he got arrested (and released without charge) for "obstruction" as he was answering back at the police officers and telling them where he thought they were going wrong.

Harry was arrested for obstruction because he was obstructing the police. Then released without charge because the police had dealt with him obstructing and rightly saw no point in prosecuting him for this.
It has nothing to do with a Swastika that any decent person should be condemning. It has nothing to do with whether Harry knows what a woman is or not.
If you obstruct the police, expect them to take action.
This reminds me of Kellie-Jays claims that she was arrested for standing up for women when she was actually arrested for breaking covid rules relating to public events.

I don't know if the complaints had been made by the same person.

yes it was in Harry’s article that it was the third visit. I don’t know if they reveal who made the complaints in cases like this, but it sure sounds like the police were helping out someone with a personal vendetta.

Yes, he was visited for memes.

Absolutely sounds personal to me.
