You can rename it whatever you like. It's still Quiddich. You can try and erase it's past. But it's still Quiddich.

It never could be much like quidditch without the flying broomsticks or autonomously flying snitch, so if they want to rename it to avoid copyright I think they should go right ahead.

It's good for students etc to be able to play slightly daft games. There was one that was popular for a while that was sort of a cross between Frisbee and basketball, where I think the players bounced on a mini trampoline to give them extra height to score goals.
My worry about quadball would be that if one player tackles another, or just trips over, they could sort of stab each other with their "broomsticks" which could be quite nasty. But that's for them to sort out.

I’d argue that whilst they’ve based it on Quidditch - it isn’t Quidditch! And Quadball is more fitting. JK has, to my knowledge, never commented on it and so the idea that they are ‘distancing’ themselves is utterly ridiculous.
And everyone knows its roots is from Harry Potter.

To be fair I can’t really take anyone who plays real life quidditch (running round with a snitch dangling off your shorts) very seriously. I feel a bit mean about it since I try not to judge people’s hobbies - if you enjoy it go for it - but ground quidditch? Renamed quad ball? I just feel like I’d be looking for another hobby if my main one was reenactment from a book written by a woman I went out of my way to disassociate myself with. It would be like playing hobbits but you hate Tolkien so you’ll be habbits and you’re looking for a necklace not a ring. Just pointless.

After all, reading about Quidditch in her books is where wanting to play a reality based version of it came from.

They can call it Ballsup or whatever else they want, it will still be the game based on the one she put in her books.
Her idea & her name will always be attached to it.
