This is an article citing “research”, which comes from the metro, by a female percentage who believes themselves to be a man.

stonewll does not understand normal child development and this charity is doing harm

I used to have deep respect for Stonewall, now I just think they are a crazy cult.

Boiledbeetle · 23/07/2022 20:22

Now usually I like the rest of you would be thinking that things have finally gone completely crazy but...

Back in the heatwave of 1976, so I was 3, my sister came out one teatime to find me lying on my back on the pavement waving my arms and legs in the air.

Sister: what are you doing?
Me: I'm being a beetle
Sister: are you a girl beetle or a boy beetle?
Me: I'm a boiled beetle! (As I Laughed hysterically then stood up and went inside for tea!).

As you can see 46 years later I'm still identifying as a boiled beetle. So I don't know, maybe on this one they know what they are taking about!!.

😜😁😜

@ScrollingLeaves and as we now know from the interim Cass Review, children under some form of watch from the state (specifically, looked after children) are over-represented in the GIDS cohort:

"There is also an over-representation percentage wise (compared to the national percentage) of looked after children"

See 3.11 on page 32

When I was at Bristol Uni in the 80's, it always used to amuse me that my Marxist economics lectures alway preceded the monetarist/Thatcherite ones. Naughty administrator!

It lead to a very polite, but cutting, exchange of views at handover.

No shouting, no violence...nobody cried... A few might have headed to the pub (but they weren't open all day in those days).

Why isn't the NSPCC all over this”

Maybe because of this kind of thing (from late 2020):

www.barnardos.org.uk/news/joint-statement-barnardos-nspcc-national-childrens-bureau-and-childrens-society-about-gender

"As the debate intensifies around Wednesday’s judicial review of the application of the Gillick competence principle to NHS Tavistock Portman’s Clinic’s hormone treatment of under 16’s who identify as trans, Barnardo’s, NSPCC, National Children’s Bureau and The Children’s Society have released a joint statement.
In the statement the charities say:

“As children’s charities, we believe in, support, and stand in solidarity with all children and young people who are trans, non-binary, gender non-conforming, or exploring their gender identity. We celebrate who they are and work with them to help them reach their potential.

*“On matters of health treatment all children have the right to be listened to independently and have their wishes taken seriously – this includes children and young people who identify as trans and who may be undergoing hormone treatment therapy.
“Many trans children and young people feel lonely and isolated due to a lack of support, understanding, and acceptance. Denying them agency has the potential to compound this and can put them at high risk of mental illness and emotional distress, potentially affecting their long-term future.
*
“But we also know that with the right support from the adults in their lives, trans young people can lead happy and healthy childhoods. It’s vital that trans children and young people feel listened to, understood and accepted.”"

I feel so angry about this. Trans identifying teenagers are disproportionately represented by children in care because of early trauma. It is a symptom of the fact they need psychological help not a sign of any inborn trans identity.. You don’t affirm and augment a symptom, you try to find its cause.

DD1 has SEN and went to special school. When she was year 9, there was a sex education class about puberty, etc. She said that she didn't want to be a girl anymore. Her teacher said, 'What do you want to be?' She replied 'I'd rather be a dog!', to which her teacher said 'Dogs have 8 nipples.' DD1 sullenly replied 'I guess I'll stick with being a girl, then'. 🤔

Toseland · 23/07/2022 19:36

Maybe Stonewall don't care they are surely going to destroy themselves with this. Whilst we have been waiting for a tipping point of enough people to stand against this ideology; Stonewall have been waiting for a tipping point of getting enough kids indoctrinated that future generations will be indoctrinating themselves. When their tipping point is reached they will have served their purpose anyway. It's really scary distopian stuff - why are we not outside their HQ protesting?

It’s the whole learning just enough to be certain you’re right, and not learning enough (or gaining life experience) to find that it’s actually far more complicated than that and you haven’t really got a bloody clue, that’s so bloody problematic.

Plus the whole being terrified of being judged as morally deficient. People are so terrified of finding themselves ‘on the wrong side of history’ or judged as ‘on the right’ they suspend the critical faculties they do have.

except, history is never objective. It’s written and told from the point of view of the presently powerful. And the right/left political spectrum is incredibly malleable. Every single human on earth will find some part of their views puts them at the wrong end of some kind of left/right construction.

Yes true. Especially the part wrt lacking in life experiences. People can theorise and dabble away in their uni bubbles but in the real world living and working and raising families views nd priorities can be altogether different. It's the life experience that tends to educate most people rather than 1 or 2 modules covered in a degree.

My 4 yr old was really into steam locomotives.

Should I now claim that he was a trains identifying toddler?

LOL Grin

Until he was nearly four, my ds's life ambition was to be a train. Not a train driver. A train. That's because he was a very little boy with an age-appropriately tenuous understanding of reality.

What's really frustrating is that most of the true believers have actually been to university. How did they miss the bit about critically analysing research?

I can bet my life that none of this crap started in working class circles of people in the main without uni education. Mostly too busy getting on with surviving life rather than dreaming up this nonsense. It would be interesting to compare opinions on gender ideology between socioeconomic groups.

Personally, I blame a combination of the massive expansion of higher education and the rise of social media in the last few decades for this. We’ve seen the proliferation of, frankly, not very good degrees in the social sciences. And students who have gained 2:i or first class marks in them without learning any genuine skills in critical thinking (I have seen this from the inside and despaired). A lot of people have grabbed the wrong end of complex theoretical debates and taken a pile of concept and poorly grasped ideas out into the world.

In the past, they’d have struggled to take this beyond their own immediate circles. But now there’s social media where this shite can absolutely flourish.

So we find ourselves in this mess.

wwwaterbottledotcom · 23/07/2022 17:12

I'm getting to the point of no longer hiding my sensible views from friends and colleagues. this whole things has just become too silly and autocratic. I'll just state my opinion that trans affirmation reinforces harmful gender stereotypes, that people cannot change sex and that they should feel able to dress any which way they like as long as it is not indecent. It's impossible to change sex and impossible to change gender because there is no such thing as clothes or behaviour that is inherently female or male. Pushing gender gender norms is great, creating additional inclusive unisex/ttans spaces is great and protecting single sex spaces where needed is a must. That's my view.

Madcats · 23/07/2022 15:32

My teen was too busy pretending to be animals when she was at nursery school, much to the amusement of other parents. At home she favoured her dinosaur costume. I'm not sure what Stonewall would have made of her imaginary friends, either.

It did strike me the other day that this current generation of parents were the first to really be exposed to "gendered toys and clothing". Aisles and aisles of "pink is for girls...blue is for boys". Before that, kids just played with whatever was to hand.

ChristinaXYZ · 23/07/2022 15:30

Ratio-ed to hell. There are really safe-guarding concerns here.

CharlieAndTooManyCharacters · 23/07/2022 15:25

All that Wikipedia summary of research tells us is that even very young children can tell what gendered norms and expectations are, so prominent are they in society.

Yet, while 3 year olds are often hugely dogmatic in their adherence to gender stereotypes, older children (and adults) are often far more flexible about them.

It’s simply not true that gender identity is essential or fixed.

ResisterRex · 23/07/2022 15:25

There needs to be an investigation into Stonewall.

I agree. But it need to be drawn widely in order to pull in the influence and implementation, and promotion of the affirmation model. It needs to include GIRES, the NSPCC, Barnardo's, the teaching unions. The lot. Something a bit like this in how its shaped:

sex-matters.org/take-action/take-action-archive/sign-our-letter/

NoNina · 23/07/2022 15:15

WTF are "activities and toys which are considered appropriate for their gender"? Painting is not appropriate for boys? Tools not appropriate for girls? Shame that my dd helped her dad build cabinets since she was 3 and super shame that my ds loves to paint and draw, I'll go to Primary and buy him a few summer dresses. On this note I should burn my garden tools or come out as a trans man, right?

How dare they?

Datun · 23/07/2022 15:14

There needs to be an investigation into Stonewall. A once respected charity for gay people appears to have been taken over by men's rights activists Cushion and I'm sound, ideology.

What happens when things like this occur? This can't be unprecedented. Charities trading on goodwill and reputation, with a mission that has completely changed under the radar.

Hugh stern replying agrees with Stonewall and quotes from Wikipedia.
^At this point, children can make firm statements about their gender(13)15) and tend to choose activities and toys which are considered appropriate for their genderl131 (such as dolls and painting for girls, and tools and rough-housing for boys), 16)
although they do not yet fully understand the implications of gender 15) After age three, it is extremely difficult to change gender identity. (12)^

How can people not see how this does not make sense.

If painting is for ‘girls’, I wonder if they think Picasso, Matisse, Leonardo da Vinci, Titian et Al were really trans gender?
