I'm absolutely fuming, stealing money that was funding women's campaigning.

<reads more of thread>

WTF is "project veritas"? I'm not even gping to bother googling. It'll be another American thing won't it, that I am supposed to know all about, just because a randomer on the internet said I should.

Yeah, no. I have a stack of books waiting to be read that is now physically taller than me. I'll procrastinate on MN, but I have to draw a line somewhere.

Never heard of him before then, 'cause I don't immerse myself in American blogosphere when I have British and European politics to understand.

He's a far-right propagandist & Islamophobe living in London so will probably be quite popular in here.

As he's an American journalist, this didn't seem to ring true. So I googled it. Google tells me the man is reported to have recently relocated to London to escape the violent threats against him back in Portland, Oregon.

I'm rather freaked out that you already knew this. Why are you keeping such close track of this man's movements?

MalagaNights · 24/07/2022 14:43

Andy Ngo has upset a wide range of people, which is interesting.

He has had to go into hiding because of threats on his life, for reporting and opinions.

These facts make him very interesting and make me wonder where the truth might lie in these very murky waters.

I'm not sure how I'd find out without dedicating days of research using a variety of sources which I don't have time to do.

But I think I might follow him on Twitter and hear directly from him and form a judgement over time on that basis.

MalagaNights · 24/07/2022 14:39

The accusation of far right has become so overused we now shrug and don't accept it as fact.

As most of us have probably by now been accused of it, or associating or aligning with it.

Boy who cried wolf.

Floisme · 24/07/2022 14:25

I will never stop finding it odd to see how much effort goes into discrediting people I would barely have heard of if it hadn't been for all the efforts to discredit them.

And when the efforts to discredit them involve linking them with someone I'd know even less about if it hadn't been for all the efforts to discredit them.... well I have to close the curtains and go and lie down.

Here is Andy Ngo's wiki. Seems relatively neutral. No idea what the Google results are that a pp referred to - of course search results are tailored to the user.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andy_Ngo

Neutral?
Even the Proud Boys think he is right wing.

Ngo's coverage of antifa and Muslims has been controversial, and the accuracy and credibility of his reporting have been disputed by other journalists. He has been frequently accused of sharing misleading or selective material,[9][10][11] described as a provocateur,[12][13] and accused of having links with militant right-wing and far-right groups in Portland, Oregon.[14][15][16]

Ngo's credibility and objectivity as a journalist have been extensively criticized.[10][59][85] Since 2019, he has been accused of using selectively edited videos[86] and sharing misleading and inaccurate information to paint antifa activists as violent,[3] and to underplay the violence of the far right,[87][88][82] with Columbia Journalism Review describing Ngo as a "discredited provocateur".[89]

Ngo has also attracted criticism for allegedly associating with the same far-right groups that he purports to report on.[16][90] After Ngo was assaulted by left-wing protestors in Portland in 2019, the Portland-based newspaper Willamette Week quoted an unnamed Proud Boys member as saying that the attack on Ngo "happened because he ignored Proud Boys' offer of protection"[14] and accordingly stated "it is increasingly clear [Ngo] is coordinating his movements and his message with right-wing groups".[14]

How do I find PP on Instagram?

This is the link to the post. Her account name is theposieparker

On Andy Ngo, tweeting about reading his book led to a member of Mumford & Sons having to leave the band.

PinkFrogss · 24/07/2022 10:40

Not shocking particularly shocking that Matt is keen to define what a woman is, considering how much he despises them and wants to remove their rights.

May as well make some profits from feminists along the way, especially if they don’t realise just what he thinks of them.

Suit yourself, after the bio the top article calls him a 'right wing troll', then a tweet where he calls two pro-lifers 'satanists' followed by an article calling him 'a disciple of Project Veritas'

Im not googling him

why would i want to google him

PearlClutch · 24/07/2022 10:17

I have no idea what Veritas is, either.

For anyone who is a US poster: then please note that most MN users will have little knowledge of US issues. It's a bit pointless coming on and chucking about varous attempts at smearing people by association when most of us have literally no idea what you're on about.

It's great how these threads go:

Posie spoke to another evil right wing person!!!
Now we finally have the proof we needed and you will have to listen to us now!!!

Yeh, still no.

Actually, beg your pardon, I recant that last statement. Ad homs are sometimes a useful indicator that the person making them lacks a substantive argument. So not necessarily entirely meaningless.

MalagaNights · 24/07/2022 10:08

"a disciple of project Veritas." 😁

You could know nothing about project Veritas and see the bias, fear mongering and lack of neutral journalism from outer space in that line.

He's a commited follower of faith to an evil ideology people!!!!!
Saved googling him for you everyone!

And the fact that's he's had to be in hiding because of the multiple threats to his life, whilst he's threatened no ones life just reported words, should definitely illustrate he's obviously the baddie criticising innocent groups...

PearlClutch · 24/07/2022 10:05

This is FWR, pet. We ask for evidence, not ad homs. Ad homs are weak as babypiss, and mean nothing, as we all know.

no

the best place to start would be a neutral ‘andy ngo’

Sorry, correction! The Wi Spa coverage was the second time I'd heard of Andy Ngo. The first was when I read about him being attacked by Antifa supporters in Portland.

I can understand why some people might be keen to discredit him after that.

PearlClutch · 24/07/2022 09:42

That's a useful update, I was wondering whether the transwoman who exposed themself at WiSpa had ever been caught. It seems not.

Merager says she did not have an erection at the time, just has a 'large appendage'.

Merager, who stands 6-foot-2 and weighs around 200 pounds, says the women are mistaking a large appendage for an erection.

“I don’t have a small penis but you can’t say that’s an erection,” Merager says. “What if you used the men’s room and someone said they don’t like the size or shape of your penis? That’s what they’re doing.”

Well, I had a look at Twitter and can safely say I have no idea what he's mostly talking about. Looks like all US stuff.

He was at a party, you say? Shocking.
