I'm absolutely fuming, stealing money that was funding women's campaigning.

the Portland-based newspaper Willamette Week quoted an unnamed Proud Boys member as saying that the attack on Ngo "happened because he ignored Proud Boys' offer of protection"[14] and accordingly stated "it is increasingly clear [Ngo] is coordinating his movements and his message with right-wing groups".[14]

Sounds legit 🙄

Firstly: not wanting protection from the Proud Boys sounds like a good thing surely?

Secondly: coordinating with right wing groups is a legitimate thing to do, because being right wing is errrr.... legal and mainstream.

The weird patching together of the critiques just reveals the bias.

Again: I don't know enough about Andy Ngo to be conclusive either way, but I think he's interesting and I'm not prepared to dismiss him based on someone telling me he's 'awful' and by people who view 'right wing' as an insult.

Andy Ngo is brave and does important work.

I can't imagine why he and Posie get on?

Yes.

SunThroughTheCloudsAt6am · 25/07/2022 08:21

sharing misleading and inaccurate information to paint antifa activists as violent

The people dressed in black, masked up even before covid, intimidating people in the street aren't violent - well, that's good to know.

MalagaNights · 25/07/2022 08:11

I love the confidence people have in knowing whether Andy Ngo is 'good' or 'bad' and that this tends to correspond nicely to when he reports critically of things you are also critical of: good, and critically of things you like: bad.

I'm sure there are many many people critical of his reporting on Wi Spa.

Andy Ngo is important because he's prepared to report on things no one else will touch, go to places no one else will go and say things no one else will say.

Also important because he's not just a typical journalist.

Saying all that I wouldn't be abe to say whether he's good or bad, whether his reports on certain sitautions were accurate, as I don't know. But he's one source giving a different point of view from the main stream media and thank fuck for that.

Bosky · 25/07/2022 07:36

steamedhamz · 24/07/2022 14:20

Neutral?
Even the Proud Boys think he is right wing.

Ngo's coverage of antifa and Muslims has been controversial, and the accuracy and credibility of his reporting have been disputed by other journalists. He has been frequently accused of sharing misleading or selective material,[9][10][11] described as a provocateur,[12][13] and accused of having links with militant right-wing and far-right groups in Portland, Oregon.[14][15][16]

Ngo's credibility and objectivity as a journalist have been extensively criticized.[10][59][85] Since 2019, he has been accused of using selectively edited videos[86] and sharing misleading and inaccurate information to paint antifa activists as violent,[3] and to underplay the violence of the far right,[87][88][82] with Columbia Journalism Review describing Ngo as a "discredited provocateur".[89]

Ngo has also attracted criticism for allegedly associating with the same far-right groups that he purports to report on.[16][90] After Ngo was assaulted by left-wing protestors in Portland in 2019, the Portland-based newspaper Willamette Week quoted an unnamed Proud Boys member as saying that the attack on Ngo "happened because he ignored Proud Boys' offer of protection"[14] and accordingly stated "it is increasingly clear [Ngo] is coordinating his movements and his message with right-wing groups".[14]

Ah! Wikipedia, that reliable source of unbiased information - not.

"Wikipedia co-founder tells Neil Oliver: The Establishment Left radicals have taken over the website"

Misstache · 25/07/2022 00:14
  1. Andy Ngo is awful.

  2. Even if you completely disagree with her, stealing a woman’s work even - especially - if she can’t copyright it is bs.

  3. 1 and 2 have literally nothing to do with each other or with the thread which is about men copying a woman’s idea.

  4. Even if you disagree with a woman, that doesn’t mean she deserves sexist treatment. Even if a woman is around/works with/talks to/takes pictures with etc. awful men, that does not mean she brings awful male behaviour on herself because that is the logic of rape culture.

I disagree. Andy Ngo does inconsistent work. He got it right on Wi Spa...in fact, he broke the story, if I remember correctly. But he also got other facts in other news sources wrong, from some BLM protests/rioters to the Rittenhouse killings.

I wouldn't hire him to be a reporter because he doesn't follow journalistic protocols, sometimes he undercovers verifiable facts, sometimes he fudges them. Ngo is a crapshoot.

Ah, the delightful MTG who just yesterday implied that gay men were pedophiles.

PP giving a shout out to Marjory Taylor Green in the middle of MTG's re-election campaign but she's not getting paid for it. Or aligning with far right politicians. Ok.

Posie Parker is a UK woman.

Daily Wire, Matt Walsh & Andy Ngo are American.

MrsTerryPratchett · 24/07/2022 18:48

masturbating naked at someone's window was not motivated by sexual interest.

Curious as to what other motivation there could be.

PearlClutch · 24/07/2022 18:46

Merager, who stands 6-foot-2 and weighs around 200 pounds, says the women are mistaking a large appendage for an erection.

Just a point on this. Surely most straight women will have seen significantly more erect penises of various kinds IRL than most straight men. I mean I know men probably watch more porn but those are stunt penises, not IRL ones.

I can't imagine the average women not knowing the difference.

Unfortuantely I find Merager's reliability unconvincing due to his claim that his pervious conviction for - as I understand it - masturbating naked at someone's window was not motivated by sexual interest.

What I would really like is if posters from the US would take a bit of time to educate theyself on the culture, history, society of the countries of the internet boards they likes to try and assert themselves on.

This is a thread about Posie Parker and far-right US antagonists of which Andy Ngo is a very famous one (1 million+ followers on twitter).

It's significant that PP had him at her party, maybe you should take a bit of time to educate yourself on the culture, history and society of the country of the people being talked about on this thread.

Oh, 'Seems relatively neutral' was my comment on the wiki, not on Andy Ngo. I like to try and find sources that offer a variety of views and references.

Anyway, I've done all the research I care to do on some random US journalist. As I said, nobody here really cares all that much about the ins and outs of interminable US culture wars.

PearlClutch · 24/07/2022 16:25

MalagaNights · 24/07/2022 14:39

The accusation of far right has become so overused we now shrug and don't accept it as fact.

As most of us have probably by now been accused of it, or associating or aligning with it.

Boy who cried wolf.

The accusation there isn't even of 'far right', it's 'right wing'.

Just wait til PP finds out we have a right-leaning political party ACTUALLY IN THE HOC right now, and lots of people voted for them! Astonishing.

But still legal. I mean, I'm politically relatively left, but even I know that calling someone 'rightwing' is just a factual descriptor, not an insult.

Although this might be different in the US, fuck only knows. and I really don't care

What I would really like is if posters from the US would take a bit of time to educate theyself on the culture, history, society of the countries of the internet boards they likes to try and assert themselves on.

We ain't you. It's different here.

DoElephantsHaveWrinkles · 24/07/2022 15:57

If he's pissing off the far left and the far right, that seems like he might be doing something right.
I've come across him on Twitter and it's mostly him reporting on stuff being done by antifa and similar.
