What a wonderful accolade!

I'm so pleased for her. I know she'll do a phenomenal job - compassionate, kind and wise

Rabbitwoman
So why don't they implicitly say this? This is what they want. However it is dressed up as 'we just want to live our lives' 'we are being excluded from public life and public spaces' 'you tell us we don't exist' etc which all sound dreadful at face value.

Exactly, if they actually say what they really want, which is to colonise women's spaces for their own validation and gratification, it doesn't sound great to the general public, least of all women - who know only too well how many men view women as commodities anyway.
It helps when demanding accommodations from others, to come to the table as a victim, thereby increasing your chance of gaining some sort of compromise.

It reminds me a bit of the 'sick role' in psychology - we accept that a sick person is exempt from normal social responsibilities, and given accommodations. However they also have a responsibility to try and get better if possible, and I would argue, another responsibility to to limit the affect their condition has on others. But of course, many people use the 'sick role' in a malingering capacity to gain sympathy other perks. Think of Harvey Weinstein hobbling into court on crutches trying to look like an old vulnerable man. They use the sympathy gained to try and manipulate.

Transgender people are very well protected in this country against discrimination in employment and provision of services so as far as I see it, the trans rights under threat would be to be able to access women's spaces with impunity as though they were actually women and access to hormones, surgery etc as though it were priority, life saving treatment on the NHS. this includes the social transitioning and medicalising of children.

So why don't they implicitly say this? This is what they want. However it is dressed up as 'we just want to live our lives' 'we are being excluded from public life and public spaces' 'you tell us we don't exist' etc which all sound dreadful at face value.

I think anyone hearing these mantras and putting it together with the narrative that trans women are the most abused, maligned and vulnerable in society are going to immediately think that trans women are instantly harassed and hassled in a public place which is unacceptable. But that's not what it means. It literally means that when they go out in public they want to be able to use the ladies loo.

Now, women have pointed out again and again how that actually does impact on our rights to use ladies loos. Or changing rooms, etc. But rights aren't like pie, we are told, and it's such a nice neat little mantra that it is repeated ad hominim with no thought to what it actually means.....

The rights of other groups aren't like pie at all. If you put in a disabled ramp for ease of access, it does not stop able bodied people from access - but start saying that people uncomfortable with trans people in their same sex toilets can just use the disabled loo, and you are taking someone else's pie.

The rights of Muslim women to, for instance, wear headscarves does not effect anyone else's rights, but saying a trans woman can use their women only space where they might adjust their head scarf literally takes away their pie.

Same sex marriage does not impede anyone else's rights to marriage, but saying homosexuality is same gender attraction rather than same sex attraction literally takes away someone's pie and replaces it with a completely different pie they don't want.

Nicely said, rabbitwoman!

I have reported your post for pengphobia.
Penguins identify as Tim Tams, who are you to say otherwise? They don't have to look like them, they are who they say they are!
Mumsnet is a cess pit of pengphobic posts.

TTAP

In fact, Penguins are BETTER at being Tim Tams than actual Tim Tams.
Actually, I'm calling them non-Timtams now, I think it's only inclusive.

Oh my! Are you cancelling me and every Australian on the planet?

Penguins are most certainly NOT Tim Tams.

I mad angry crying so Bad cannot typr…

CrossPurposes · 25/07/2022 16:21

Considering her moniker Good Janet Bad Janet there can be no answer to the question because the characters of Janet know everything in The Good Place.

LK1972 · 25/07/2022 16:21

On no, sorry, got my bigots wrong way around, those Tim Tams are the worst

LK1972 · 25/07/2022 16:20

@BoredofthisCrap7 so true, it is important to be inclusive, and Penguins who don't like that are far-right bigots!

Of course it’s a no.

otherwise it would have been answered ages ago.

GJBJ probably doesn’t believe it themselves but will insist on saying an empty phrase anyway.

RhannionKPSS · 25/07/2022 12:08

The writers of that nonsense are complete bampots, unfortunately some of them turned up at a pro choice demo at the USA embassy & were allowed to speak before any of the women there. No trans men spoke.
It’s very clear they want to piggyback their demands onto something that has absolutely bugger all to do with them.

If it's the people I'm thinking of, I'm not surprised at all. Proper bampots. They just absolutely can't bear any situation which doesn't centre them.

As in celebrities with big platforms tweets something and then it gets media attention, and things get twisted/ passed off as truth.

goodness that sounds bad

let's talk about it just as soon as you've explained what rights trans people in the UK don't have......

<all ears>

Terrible, isn't it?

What rights don't trans people have?

IcakethereforeIam · 25/07/2022 12:24

Is that a no then?

This is actually hilarious...talk about ultimate narcissism and delusion:

We fight for an end to borders, prisons and police.

We demand immediate release & pardon for all trans prisoners.

We demand material reparations for historical abuses against trans people.

We demand mandatory education, written & taught entirely by trans people, at all educational stages.

There will be no clinics, and no authorities.

and yet...

We demand that all therapies that can be are made available at drop-ins, with self-referral for any therapy or procedure for which drop-in is unsuitable.

We demand anonymous blood tests, both postal & at drop-in endocrinology clinics

We demand medical training.

That whole ridiculous post reminds me of those weird manifestos that incel guys write, where they construct a world that serves them and their needs entirely, and nobody else matters, or other people are only ever thought of in regards to how they can serve this persons needs.

Incredibly selfish and entitled. And yet somehow paint themselves always as the victim.

“Immediate release for all trans prisoners” Hilarious 😂

Gosh, Janet's back!

So, @GoodJanetBadJanet, are you finally going to answer the question that so many have posed to you:

What rights don't trans people have?

IcakethereforeIam · 25/07/2022 12:19

At least we're in agreement about somethings.

The articles, blogs, can be interesting sometimes and they may have links to actual evidence.

Anything to put about, you know, the rights....?

GoodJanetBadJanet · 25/07/2022 12:18

The difference being that JKR will tweet about the blog post, the Daily Mail prints a story about JKR tweeting about it and somehow it's become 'truth'
Yes, this too

SSReye · 25/07/2022 12:16

I've lost count of the times "GC" posters have posted links to people's blogs citing them as articles .
No they're not, they're randomers with a loud opinion/big platform on the internet.

GoodJanetBadJanet · 25/07/2022 12:11

the link dump - usually from pink news, or some other 'unbiased' source, which is of course completely biased and usually nonsense, or 'statistics', from a self report group of 11 participants or something.
I haven't posted a link, but know what you mean - this goes both ways though

Absolutely anyone can set up and have a blog, I have one myself.
(Nothing trans related though)

When I hear 'trans people don't have rights and you want us not to exist!!!', I wonder if this is the kind of thing they are referring to - edinburghath.tumblr.com/post/163521055802/trans-health-manifesto

Obvious nonsense, demanding rights that no-one else on the planet has.

I assume the likes of GoodJanetBadJanet and their ilk won't answer the question 'what rights don't trans people have?' Is
a) there are no rights they don't have
b) the rights they are demanding conflict squarely with women and girl's rights and they don't want to admit it and can't make a coherent case for it.

Yes, exactly. The 'rights' they demand, are really wants. The want to be validated and for their self image to be reflected back to them.

This is not a right, but an ego boost. Most of us don't get to demand this, especially not as cost to others.
Unfortunately, many have a victimhood complex, which means they don't see or care about other people's feelings, only their wants.

Apollo442 · 25/07/2022 10:45

There should be an OR between a) and b).

I’m guessing @violetglow7 won’t come back

which I find very frustrating although I’m trying to learn to let it go

it’s just so rude to throw out very serious slurs about a person and refuse to back them up

I've long since given up on the ploppers actually constructing a common sense argument or a coherent viewpoint that goes beyond 'waaah, you big meanies'.

I think it makes them feel good to swan in, throw around a few outraged insults and swan off again, not engaging with actual discussion or answering actual questions because very quickly their 'argument' falls apart like wet cake.

Once their usual 'you are big meanies, why are you all so hateful?' tactic doesn't work, they try a few others:

  • the link dump - usually from pink news, or some other 'unbiased' source, which is of course completely biased and usually nonsense, or 'statistics', from a self report group of 11 participants or something.
  • or 'evil by association' - they will take one quote, or a bit of tweet from some media 'baddie' or right wing person, and say 'look at the evil you all align yourself with'.
