Did anyone post about this yet?

Maybe now those cutesy story times will be ended too. THIS is what women have been shouting about. The mindset of many grad queens, the other shit in their working lives, SM streams etc. THIS!

Your problem is that this specific drag artist did that, explicitly. At a venue that was not adult only. A venue that is effectively in the open air. With a damn good sound system.

Insisting that you have the ONLY truth is a dangerous position to take up!

Especially when the venue seems to disagree with you!

Please post a link from the NT that explicitly states "the stage can be seen and heard by those outside the immediate area."

CrossStichQueen · 20/07/2022 15:41

Why are you ignoring my comment:

I am not.

What part of "hosted by Sue Gives A Fuck" makes you think it's suitable for children?

As I said on their own events page it does not state that as my screen shot shows so people attending may not have been aware given that the National theaters own events page does not say it is hosted by Sue Gives A Fuck.

Please don't conflate paedophilia with drag, it's dangerous, and is exactly the kind of thing that can and is used to discredit us and make out that we're bigots who are pretending to care about safeguarding.

Hear the music? Yes of course.

Hear individual comments spoken on stage? As someone who was actually there, no I don't believe that. Even when I was inside the audience area, I had a hard time making out the dialogue.

See the performers on the tiny stage with a thick crowd jumping up and down right in front of it? No.

Anyone who drags their children to an adult evening drag show needs an SS referral.

Looking at the events page that shows the acts and times at no piont does it state adult only or adult content. You can't expect people to accept drag shows in schools then blame them for thinking a drag show at 6:30pm would be unsuitable.

Why are you ignoring my comment:

"The NT utterly failed in not doing more to create a firm and clear boundary between the "family friendly" events, and the adult events."

I was there. I know what happened and what didn't.

So I can assume that you immediately complained to the National Theatre about the performer and their comment can I?

Yes I did.

No, I am "touchy" about posters trying to derail a conversation about pedophilia.

But they are not doing that. As I said the discussion has evolved and as it was a drag act that made the comment the discussion will include people's opinions on drag.

I was there. I know what happened and what didn't.

So you say but I have no idea if that's true. The others say they were there too with children who heard why should I believe you and not them?

Anyone who drags their children to an adult evening drag show needs an SS referral.

Again people said you could here it not just from the stage area but outside of that part.

You are demanding everyone believe you but as this is the Internet we have no idea if you are being truthful.
What we do know is that the comment was made and children present or not it was vile and they are rightly banned.

You can clearly see that there are no children present from the photos.

You talk about not automatically believing me but have no problem automatically believing the goady poster who claimed "loads of parents" took their children to an adult drag show hosted by someone with the F word in their name, without a lick of proof, and without bothering to do basic fact checking?

It's very easy to look up photos from the evening performances (the ones from the Daily Mail were from much earlier in the day), or look up the layout of the event and the sightlines of the stage.

The stage does not face the river path and the photos show that there was a crowd in front of the stage. Fairly logical then that passers by who were outside of the audience area (so looking at the stage from right angles and through the crowd) would not easily be able to see the stage. Just common sense.

In terms of sound, obviously you can hear the music as music carries. Able to clearly hear individual lines of dialogue from a distance? Hmmm.

For anyone who hasn't been there themselves, the reason I am sceptical of the poster's claim is because it's a busy and noisy area with lots of competing noise. There's an outdoor bar right around the corner playing music through loudspeakers, plus a busy food market with hundreds of people eating dinner and drinking basically next to it, plus hundreds of people milling on the terrace directly above preparing to go in to watch one of the two plays start. That's a lot of ambient noise and other music and other speaker systems, for vocal speech to be competing against. I could easily hear the music and general roar of the crowd from some distance away, but struggled to make out individual dialogue even when I was right in front of the stage, because there was so much competing noise.

That is why I don't believe that person.

Quoting my own post @DaniRabbity you going to apologise for your personal attack on me and retract what you have accused me of?

Bickering aside, and whether there were children in attendance or not, if you create events like DQSH, and normalise attending these with children, it's hardly surprising that people fail to see a distinction between suitable and unsuitable drag shows.

Yes, I completely agree.

The NT utterly failed in not doing more to create a firm and clear boundary between the "family friendly" events, and the adult events.

(Of course this speaks to a wider and much more sinister and insidious encroachment of childhood and the innocence of childhood - insidious grooming - that's a broader societal problem. But the NT specifically have to take responsibility for this, and banning this one performer is really the bare minimum.)

The OP is the only person I've seen who claims to have been there and she didn't have children with her. I do not believe her claims that there were "loads of children" because I was there and didn't see any children, and the photos don't show any children.

CrossStichQueen · 20/07/2022 15:15

Sorry Dani but I agree you do seem very touchy about posters negatively discussing drag. So much so you have accused them of derailing the thread despite the fact that it was a drag artist who made the comment so obviously drag will be discussed. You have also called people liars for stating that children were present and heard the joke.

You are not being attacked in anyway. Posters where asking you to explain why you called the parents liars.

Also, @DaniRabbity people have said they were in the vicinity, there were children and families in the vicinity and that they heard and saw the act, they are NOT saying they took their children into the audience - you are calling them liars saying they couldn't possibly have seen or heard the show.

Schmz · 20/07/2022 15:10

The comment was dire and inappropriate and the artist deserves the ban

I used to find drag entertainment- loved the everyone’s talking about Jamie musical etc

however now I view drag as much more than just funny to watch and liberating for some blokes -
I see it as a disgusting nasty piss take of real women

I hope it gets as much vilification as cultural appropriation / sexism does and should.

VestofAbsurdity · 20/07/2022 15:04

This thread certainly gives the impression that it's existence of drag queens that posters object to, and they don't really give a shit about the comment.

No it doesn't. Unlike the other thread where there were posters defending the comment and calling those of us who disagreed frothing right wingers, we were ridiculous, didn't understand the culture around Drag, and on and on and one who even after the performer was banned came on to tell us that the comment was never made. Did you go on that thread @DaniRabbity and pull up those posters?

You seem very touchy about anyone criticising Drag as a concept, why is that? Are we not allowed to have an opinion on Drag? As was pointed out on the other thread normalising Drag as suitable for a children's story hour in a library and on mainstream (licence payer funded) TV warps the boundaries and some people then believe it is perfectly acceptable children friendly entertainment - it isn't.

DaniRabbity · 20/07/2022 15:00

Nobody is "pretending it has nothing to do with drag."

Just that "drag shows aimed at adults are wrong" is not the best approach to take in a thread about a specific pro-pedophilia joke and more broadly a conversation about how society normalises pedophilia because of the risk of it being exploited and twisted.

Personally I am heavily side-eying the claim that "loads of children" were present and hope that is not true.

Anyone who drags their kids to an adult evening drag show advertised as being hosted by someone named "Sue Gives A Fuck", with a rowdy audience of adults drinking alcohol, needs to be reported to social services.

Look at the photo of the crowd. Would you take your kids into that crowd? I certainly wouldn't.

Clymene · 20/07/2022 14:55

Why is the National Theatre funding someone who would make a joke like that? Because drag, that's why. To try and pretend this has nothing to do with drag is disingenuous at best. The whole point of drag is that it transgresses boundaries.

All this whole sorry tale demonstrates is that drag and children don't mix.

Ever.

"Ms Sharon Le Grand said children should be taught to 'open their minds, open their hearts and open their legs' "

How does somebody become so emboldened, so unafraid of what they are saying out loud in plain sight?

And they don Woman Face to deliver their message.
