trans supporters and tactics

I was posting on the now deleted thread about trans women who wanted to pee and it made me think about the tactics that are used by trans supporters. The "need to pee" one being obvious. Another used to be "be kind" but I think that is becoming a little outdated now. Ageism is another I've observed - whether it is calling people who support single sex spaces dinosaurs, or just pointing out as was done on the other thread that it tends to be slightly older women who support womens rights. Another is to call people phobic, because we associate the word with homophobic which is obviously abhorrent. Also the mention of DSDs. Any other tactics that I've missed?

OP posts:

Oh and rewriting the meaning of what domestic abuse is so that our husbands can say they are domestic abuse victims if we don't agree they are a woman.

"How dare you call yourself trans widows, you're disgusting, that's an insult to actual widows. You're saying you wish your ex partner dead, you vile bigots. It's not about you. A kind person would love their partner for who they are, not for their gender."

BlueMumDays · 19/07/2022 07:14

Having millions of directly contradictory arguments, and selecting whichever one seems most powerful at that moment. For example:

Most people have no idea what their chromosomes are. And you've been sharing spaces with trans women for years and you haven't even noticed.

But also: gender is entirely internal, and you must use female pronouns for bearded men in dresses.

Or: trans isn't a medical condition, and stereotypes are toxic and outdated.

But also: young children must be heavily and irreversibly medicated if they play with the "wrong" toys.

BlueMumDays · 19/07/2022 07:03

Bigot. Anyone who disagrees even the slightest bit with trans ideology is a bigot.

rabbitwoman · 19/07/2022 06:59

..... and how I reduce women to their biological functions.

Yes!!!! The difference between men and women is their biological functions, ffs.....

rabbitwoman · 19/07/2022 06:58

How they deal with evidence....

'what is your source? Show me your source.'

I provide a link.....

'that's right wing/ Christian evangelical / anti-semetic/ has been debunked/ that person is a bigot / David Bell never even worked for GIDS/ self-hating trans person / internalised homophobia'

Also, I get called 'aunt Lydia' a lot, fascinating reference to a handmaid's tale, even though attwoood's work is literally about how women are treated because of their biology.....

A new one I've seen becoming more common on Twitter is doing all the above, telling the other person the conversation is over and saying 'I've stated my boundaries, you must respect that'.

Well, we all know how much respect TRAs have for boundaries...!

I literally got that the other day talking about toilets.

But when I state my boundaries..... Hmmmm....

SunThroughTheCloudsAt6am · 19/07/2022 05:51

Ageism is another I've observed

Also that we are 'baffled' or 'scared by change'

As if we're doddering and struggling to keep up in the modern world (instead of being the ones going to work every day and keeping it running)

There is a lot of forced teaming (which can be quite subtle - even just chipping in with the idea they have the same issue when you're talking about something) - but also overt teaming - 'no LGB without the T', 'especially trans and people of colour' 'especially trans and immigrants' 'trans and intersex' - I've noticed it's very rare for trans to stand on their own with an issue, they tend to piggyback other people's oppression.

Nellodee · 19/07/2022 05:04

We can’t possibly tell who is male or female without a dna test. There are thousands of people who don’t realise they’re a different sex until after they’ve had one.

It’s impossible to segregate toilets without examining genitals (because obviously transwomen wouldn’t just respect the wishes of the vast majority of women).

Transwomen using womens toilets and transmen using mens toilets are perfectly symmetrical situations.

Women commit sexual crimes too (no mention of rates).

Every trans person understands the difference between sex and gender, then goes on to describe transwomen as female.

Terfs think infertile women are men, because they say only women can give birth.

Ladyof2022 · 19/07/2022 03:59

The most frequently used tactic is DARVO.

Just remember that when they accuse GC people of something, that is the exact thing they are doing to women.

Bear that in mind and much of what they say makes sense.

Actually I think there is probably true to some extent, with regards to the kinds of arguments that have been mentioned here.

Some are just complete manipulators and normally intelligent but I think there is a higher incidence of people who struggle with these kinds of questions or in some cases have mental health issues.

In a certain sense a lot of them have been let down by those who should be protecting them.

Simply ignoring any evidence. Links to research, articles, graphs are simply ignored. Any requests for links to their 'evidence' are ignored or met with 'you can do your own research'.

Thought they all just tcweemed and tcweemed and tcweemed until they were sick (because they can) until they got there own way?

TheBiologyStupid · 18/07/2022 23:25

Oops, here's the link. The interview with Lavery starts about 17:25 minutes in: www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m00162y8

TheBiologyStupid · 18/07/2022 23:15

Mansplaining to women how to do feminism - Grace Lavery on Woman's Hour was a classic example.

FemaleAndLearning · 18/07/2022 23:14

I was having an online discussion about cis and how it is not necessary and makes women a subset of their own sex class. The other person said you use adjectives all the time like a tall woman!

WalrusSubmarine · 18/07/2022 23:03

Censorship and mudslinging. It’s been almost impossible to get balanced articles or even comments into mainstream press. Anything remotely off message has been so aggressively attacked that people have been terrified to look.

It’s not hard to explain the problem, the difficult bit is getting anyone to listen to the first 5 sentences.

(I am quite proud of the British public for still going ‘er, nah’ anyway! We may be wingeing poms but sometimes that unique balance of a sense of fair play and quietly seething at things that annoy us builds quite a wall of resistance)

VestofAbsurdity · 18/07/2022 21:02

The bringing up of something completely unrelated to the discussion with a claim of well what about this? Hmm, Hmm, answer me - it's the look over there, it's a squirrel deflection tactic, used regularly and usually early on in the discussion when their lack of argument or evidence is laid bare for all to see.

I see your point, but I think many just don't care, they want what they want and stuff the consequences. You can't argue when the logic isn't there underpinning it.

My DD who does have SpLD just doesn't 'get' the whole trans thing at all. It is obvious you can't change sex to her. I find I have to tread a very fine line on what I say to her, because I don't want her getting into 'trouble' with peers or staff at college by accidentally being too blunt.

So many are coming to mind.
Just not answering a question.

Copying and pasting a link that doesn't answer the question, then saying 'I've answered it, you're too stupid to understand' and refusing to explain anything about what they've posted.

If anything can be described as anything, that is 'reducing to' it.

The absolutely basic logical fallacy that seems to assert that 'because you say most assaults are done by men, you are therefore saying most men carry out assaults'. (Facepalm)

The utterly unexamined and erroneous conflation of 'femininity' and 'female' / 'masculinity' and 'male'.

Reliance on "brain scans" that even if they were valid would show the opposite of what they are trying to say.

VestofAbsurdity · 18/07/2022 20:15

Telling women what to do - why are you talking about this/campaigning on this/spending your money on that? you should be doing this/that/the other - gotta love the ever present misogynistic patriarchy that just loves telling women what to do.
