Eddie Izzard marks Women in War school event

Not a single woman could be found to head up this event to celebrate women in war, so this Bournemouth school invite Eddie Izzard - in his female guise presumably - to do the job.

I'm guessing women made no contribution to WW2 whatsoever, bet it was blokes all along, women were probably too busy fretting.

Gosh weren’t they lucky that it coincided with a day when Eddie was (presumably) in ‘girl mode’.

Spot on !

KittenKong · 17/07/2022 15:19

Mode 🙄

bellac11 · 17/07/2022 15:12

Has the school commented on their misjudgement, Id love to know how they justify this?

I dont know how strongly I feel about all this sort of thing but I was shocked earlier in the week, I was watching that portrait painter competition on Sky arts and he was one of the sitters for one of the rounds, they kept referring to him as she and one of the painters interviewed him and he made reference to this 'Im in girl mode at the moment' and I did feel thats completely inappropriate, like is a little game or play acting. Just ridiculous.

bellinisurge · 17/07/2022 15:07

Something else for his wank bank. Scumbag

Giggorata · 17/07/2022 15:06

Oh and yes, fuck off, Eddie.

There are still women who served in various capacities during the war, still with us

The Queen for one!

Tell her they got Eddie to represent her role in WW2, see how she reacts…

Quote of the week, as far as I am concerned.

read the room, fgs.

Sloebluewalls · 17/07/2022 14:59

A Missed opportunity for the school, it could have been a real reflection of wartime for women

JacquelinePot · 17/07/2022 12:56

I'm just going to say on behalf of women and girls past and present - fuck off Eddie

Absolutely this. Used to be such a fan. Now he's an utter idiot.

Im pretty sure there are still some lady code breakers still around

they could have got a historian, or someone who does re-enactments or whose mum was in the land army or something like that. But no, looks like they either knew them (a friend of a governor or something) or decided to put the ‘slant’ on there and pretzeled the ‘link’.

Never about the kids is it?

mumda · 17/07/2022 12:03

"Highlights included a Morse Code centre, a Battle of Britain Radar ‘control room’, drama workshops inspired by the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force, and more."

So they could have gone to any of the armed forces and asked for someone with real life experience of being involved in the military.
Blandford Camp isn't a huge distance away.

They are utter CF.

Feckedupbundle · 17/07/2022 11:43

There are still women who served in various capacities during the war, still with us. I saw a lady at a recent WW2 weekend who'd been in the Women's Land Army, she was guest of honour. I'm sure that if our little, middle of nowhere town could muster at least one female veteran, Bournemouth could have done the same.
Sometimes,it's these little, incremental insults, slights and bypassing that seems worse than the in your face blatantly misogynistic stuff. It would have been easy to do the right thing, and even find an female historical re enactor if that was too difficult, but no,allow an attention seeking man who has no lived experience in either field,to do the job instead. Pisses me right off.

GlomOfNit · 17/07/2022 11:25

Jeez, it's just bloody cosplay for Eddie, isn't it? Angry

Just think about it a minute. Very very few women who served in WWII are still alive, but they are out there and it wouldn't have been impossible to find one. If, instead of a genuine, 'was there' veteran, they had asked a much younger woman to wear a 40's outfit and talk, I suppose that would have been still ok (if they had a special interest in the era, were a WWII historian etc). But they couldn't offer a perspective as a woman who had BEEN there could.

Now, a few removes from that scenario, we have a cosplaying biological male who wasn't born then, was not 'there' and is not a woman, nor has any credentials to being an expert on the era - yet is asked to represent 'women at war'. Is Eddie proud of their female heritage and of their historical sisters in WWII? Sorry, not trying to be satirical, just trying to get my head around the thought processes and willing suspension of disbelief/delusion that this must entail! Grin

Sloebluewalls · 17/07/2022 10:54

Women's experiences of war receive little recognition as it is, so strange a biological male was chosen to forefront this woman centred event.

theghostwriter · 17/07/2022 09:50

It's such a bad message to girls. The only time women have any role to play is if they're really men.

Handsoffmyrights · 17/07/2022 09:35

How disrespectful. He's sticking it up (two fingers, of course) to all the women who played a huge part in the war.
Were those adult human females not stunning or brave enough for the school, I wonder?

partystress · 17/07/2022 09:00

EI could have done so much to help young people in particular resist stereotypes and conformity. Saw him several times in the 80s and loved his comedy and his ‘these are not women’s clothes’ line.

Now I am just deeply disappointed by Eddie. May no longer be a he, but sure does fit the mould of those males who don’t give two hoots for the rights or feelings of women and girls.

KittenKong · 17/07/2022 08:51

Sloebluewalls · 17/07/2022 02:29

This is awful. Incredibly disrespectful to actual women who fought the war. Clearly highlights a school Indoctrinated with gender ideology, willing to gaslight pupils into thinking blokes can simply identify as women. Had it been themed men in war I would’ve have blinked at EI involvement.

I do wonder st the thought process that went into this.

“so we are going to celebrate women in war! So obviously we can’t… how can we get…”

Sloebluewalls · 17/07/2022 08:40

i bet the school thinks it’s being clever and modern.

Clymene · 17/07/2022 08:09

DirtyDuchess · 17/07/2022 07:18

Perhaps he's going to Chanel Corporal Klinger from MASH

PermanentTemporary · 17/07/2022 06:48

Just reread Operation Mincemeat and one of the senior intelligence operatives was a cross dresser, possibly trans by a modern definition. Trans People in War would be an interesting topic for Eddie to be involved with. Though I note that Eddie tends to avoid defining herself at all these days, including as trans. Dont think she ever liked being categorised.

I wonder if Eddie has an agent who could advise on not being deliberately offensive. Would be nice.

Cookingutensil · 17/07/2022 02:48

Chilli, as women, I know many of us honour those who have gone before us 🙏

...without a comedy breast in sight.
I wish the children in Bournemouth (girls especially), had this opportunity.

My husband's nan drove a firetruck and put fires out during the bombing! I'm sure he could have identified as a woman that day too. Do not see why Eddie was there to be honest or am I missing something ?
