Gender ID question in GP's survey

It's so scary that health care is captured. The categories they've given you have become meaningless.

I'd only want to know about any possible gender identity if I were still in clinical work so I wouldn't be surprised at the baritone voice on the phone from someone whose name was listed as Bella.

We had a survey with a similar question that said something like regarding sex and gender identity, which of the following best describes you?Options were male/ female / intersex / non binary / other. I put other and said my sex IS female but I don't have a gender Identity.

There was a further question along the lines of is this the same as your birth gender, to which I put prefer not to say.

Haven't had time to draft an email yet but it is just so mangled. Surely someone who is 'non binary' would be either male or female which for things like cervical screening or prostate cancer purposes is pretty important you'd think. And intersex has nothing to do with gender identity. I don't even know where to start but I do want to address it with the surgery.

bordering on negligence as they are failing to collect clear, medically informed information

Might go with this.

Is there a separate question about sex? (With two choices) if not then coming from a Drs surgery it’s bordering on negligence as they are failing to collect clear, medically informed information.

Id email and ask if they
intend to have similar kinds of questions about which Age and Ethnicity you identify with. Also as a PP said, why aren’t they asking about Disabilities?

JellySaurus · 16/07/2022 08:51

There's so much to address:

In planning medical services, sex is critically important.

I'm planning medical services, medical needs such as disabilities and chronic illnesses are the second reach of critically important characteristics.

Gather gender id info as a tertiary characteristic, as for the most part it will fall under customer relations. For a tiny minority it will affect physical or mental health.

The options mean absolutely nothing to people who are unaware of the ideology, and are downright offensive to people who do not believe in the ideology. And confusing even to those who do believe in it (or try to).

WTH are the 2nd and 3rd options anyway? A female who IDs as a transman, or a transwoman who IDs as a female?

Gobbledygook!

Not that it affects the OPs answer but it's a really badly designed form. Now many transwomen describe themselves as 'female' so may tick the transgender female box whilst still being biological male. But GP surgery may understand them to be biological female.

This is what happens when you piss about with language

PinkDaffodil2 · 16/07/2022 08:47

The categories are clumsy - but presumably part of this is to check that people aren’t missing out on necessary screening tests etc? If someone has transitioned then moved surgery the GP practice may not know they have male / female anatomy as the whole record is often reset so there’s a real risk of missing cervical screening, AAA etc.

Are you allowed multiple answers

Otherwise anyone ticking nine conforming to gender can't have their sex noted

No.

Argh, this really fucking annoys me, especially coming from a healthcare setting! Female and Male are SEX classifications, not gender identities Angry

KittenKong · 16/07/2022 08:41

Me too. Then I emailed them and asked exactly why they were asking such inane questions and for what ends?

Mine didn’t ask about any disabilities (actual or identified) or additional needs I may have. Just ma feelz…

Queenoftheashes · 16/07/2022 08:39

If you can put free text in I usually go with something like my sex is female and not everyone believes in the gender religion
