So I got a survey link yesterday and this thread reminded me to complete it.

My version didn't ask about gender identity, just if I'd like extended access and the ability to make online enquiries. (Well, yes). So did different areas get different surveys?

Somanysocks · 16/07/2022 15:13

It's daft as gender is completely irrelevant in the healthcare setting, unless it's to do with psychological assessments.

JacquelinePot · 16/07/2022 15:06

Would the Information Commissioner's Office be interested in this kind of thing? Orgs should only be asking for data that is required for them to do their job.

Apollonia1 · 16/07/2022 14:23

They should you ask:
What sex we're you born as?

Then if they want more information:
What gender do you currently identify as? (With an option for not applicable).

Whatwouldscullydo · 16/07/2022 13:38

After all these surveys are just a way for these groups to make more money.

It was them that lobbied to ve allowed to change medical records. Now they are paid to solve a problem they caused.

Fairislefandango · 16/07/2022 13:33

I'd tick 'not listed' and type 'female SEX' in the box underneath.

Whatwouldscullydo · 16/07/2022 13:32

JellySaurus · 16/07/2022 13:04

But, Whatwouldscullydo, it's not just people who subscribe to this ideology who are affected. If you cannot tell what proportion of service users are likely to need gynaecological services, for example, how can you plan for them?

That's why we should just stick to sex. Leave gender out of it. Its irrelevant. We are constantly told gender and sex are different so if they know what sex they are why do we need to ask about gender.

ScrollingLeaves · 16/07/2022 13:27

I think you should send it to the new Secretary for Health. It is a shame Javid has gone, but he had started an enquiry into the messed up terminology in health related settings.

ImperfectAlf · 16/07/2022 13:16

@Whatwouldscullydo

The thing is, this doesn't help anyone. Not those who believe or those who don't. Not those who know who they are or those who are finding out. It just obfuscates.

Language is important.

They need to define their terms but thank goodness it doesn't say the dreaded 'cis' word.
I have followed this for years but I am not sure whether a 'transgender female' is a biological male who wants to be a woman or a biological female who wants to be a man.
I know this obfuscation is deliberate.

That's what I went with. It's a ridiculous question.

Occasionally part of me thinks that we should stop trying to bail people out like this. I mean this is what you wanted right ? To change your records ?

Its not a mental.illness so you dont wish to hurt yourself or die as that's preferable to being listed as the sex you are ?

You are all.well.aware of what sex you are yes? So we surely don't even need these types of questions.

And everyone's fully informed of what happens and what the consequences are and you have proven.to be of sound mind with full capacity right ?

But then really im.not that mean and I dont want to see anyone hurt. Well any more than they currently are because I bet this survey has taken priority over removing any other barriers to health care , there are no.more issues obtaining hrt or epi pens and parents aren't sent away with allergic babies untreated cos the kids to expensive to prescribe.. ...

JellySaurus · 16/07/2022 09:20

bordering on negligence as they are failing to collect clear, medically informed information

Might go with this.

That's what I went with. It's a ridiculous question.

PearlClutch · 16/07/2022 11:42

When faced with these type of questions I will choose 'other' and explain that I don't subscribe to gender as an ideology or some such, or that I don't feel 'gender identity' is a useful metric, etc. Basically speak up and make it known that these questions are offensive, nonsensical, harmful, not applicable, pointless, intrusive, or whatever adjective of choice you feel is relevant.

PearlClutch · 16/07/2022 11:40

It can also be useful to ask questions. Ask them what a gender identity is. Ask them how you know what yours is. This generally exposes the issues quite quickly.

AnneLovesGilbert · 16/07/2022 10:33

I was sent a similar one this week that only asked asked gender with a male and female option.

In the free text feedback box I said my gender is irrelevant and my healthcare needs are related to my biological sex and not everyone has a gender identity. Provision for sex specific healthcare like contraception, antenatal and postnatal care, menopause and certain cancer screening and care can only be planned if they collect data on facts rather than ideologies. I said that working in and being responsible for healthcare I expect them to be clear.

LunaLights · 16/07/2022 10:30

I was filling out a form for my 6 year old DC for an allied health therapy.
The question was Gender: Male, Female, Other.
In the text box in Other, I put SEX = Female.
The return email was rainbow decorated and announced how they were alphabet allies…..
‘What hope does my DC have at receiving specific therapies to assist their development if the so-called medical professionals don’t know the difference between sex (biology) and gender (ideology)?

Metabigot · 16/07/2022 10:25

I fear whatever word is uses to describe biological female / male will be appropriated by trans

A couple of years back female meant biological female now many transwomen say they are female. And no one is correcting them.

There is currently no reliable word to mean ' 'those humans who we used to call female' maybe AFAB but thats another insulting bastardisation of language implying sex is assigned and therefore easily reassigned.

JellySaurus · 16/07/2022 10:18

Does this breach GDPR? They are collecting data that they cannot put to any use, therefore it is being collected needlessly.

The categories are clumsy - but presumably part of this is to check that people aren’t missing out on necessary screening tests etc? If someone has transitioned then moved surgery the GP practice may not know they have male / female anatomy as the whole record is often reset so there’s a real risk of missing cervical screening, AAA etc.

The question is asking about how one ‘identifies’. Not about biological reality. So if someone ticks ‘female’ there’s no guarantee that they are actually female, just that they feel they’re female.
I would expect there to be a question about what biological sex you are to ensure your correct sex is recorded, then if a question about gender was included, the options should also include a choice of ‘I do not have a gender identity’

Whatwouldscullydo · 16/07/2022 10:06

Do they define the terms anywhere. If male and female are genders how r they defining sex?

What does transgender male and transgender female mean. Because if you have ticked you identify with a male gender then you have already answered the question surely because male and female ars already identities.

Talk about complicating matters.

They need 1 question. What sex are you.

3amAndImStillAwake · 16/07/2022 10:05

What is meant by transgender female? Is it a female who is transgender eg a transman? Or does it mean transwoman?

PaleBlueMoonlight · 16/07/2022 09:56

Also poor grammar...

MrsOvertonsWindow · 16/07/2022 09:52

The NHS has been so totally captured by gender extremists that they're now incapable of producing factual questionnaires and producing accurate sex based data. Which of course is terrifying except to those disinterested in the appalling state of women's health care - and then it serves the purpose of covering up the dismal statistics.

But then you need to ask gender none conforming male and gender none conforming female
