Is CIS a legal term?

So I had a conversation with a friend the other day who is adamant Cis is an accurate descriptor of women and that it is written into law?
I asked where but she couldn't specify just stating it's a factual term (referencing women) that is legally recognized.
I've had a look and can't seem to find anything to back this up, but I know the wise women here will know if there is any truth to this.
Thanks in advance.

I'm not going to lie about important facts which affect me, sorry. And I don't respond to guilt tripping, emotional blackmail or appeals to female socialisation.

I'm not saying those definitions have to define you. I'm just stating the definitions of the words. Whether you want to use them to describe yourself or not is up to you.

And yet there are people that define me as cis. When the correct descriptor is male/female or man/woman as they are the primary terms and no prior descriptor is needed.

onlywhenidream · 11/07/2022 19:25

It's not transphobic

Get over yourself

@onlywhenidream I agree. But they are copping for the actions of other people and collateral in the war.

You see it daily you report thems the rules

Difficult to do when their offensive views are factual though. hence the "humans cant change sex" which should be the feminist boards' motto.

Could I just ask that people do not assume all trans people think alike

Many know that sex change is not possible
Many know that their feelings are no more important than anyone else's
Many are being harmed by gender activists

OFC they do. There are plenty of eminently sane and factual trans people about. The distinction from genderists is worth underlining (in fact a lot of gender SJW seem to self describe as cisgender).

Now the fact that you dont care about hurting other people, well thats your look out.

I care about their feelings at least as much as they care about mine.

There's your problem though.

With your blanket statements about sex, you are not hurting the nutter on twitter whos offended you.

You are hurting my trans friend whos about as interested in invading your spaces as flying to the moon.

I must admit I take the fence-sitting position if never saying it (with or without wide eyes or wrung hands) but I of course know it’s scientific fact, I just refrain from saying it to try to be tactful.

Stauncher logicians than I will inevitably say it, though, when non-facts are repeatedly pushed on them as facts. Trying to alter fact is not the way to win this crusade.

It should be quite possible to come up with a polite truce if the extreme campaigning wing would only stop trying to change the ordinary meaning of normal words.

A polite truce is out of the question now. Feminists wont budge, and trans people will continue to suffer.

You find the word cisgender offensive and somehow we shouldnt use it but its okay to mock, degrade and belittle trans people?

No, it's obviously not ok to do those things. You seem to be implying that's the standard behaviour of feminists in general. Hopefully that's not what you intended to convey?

I see it daily on these boards.

Daily.

I object to people saying "but humans cant change sex" with wide eyes and wringing hands and pretending they are either too insensitive or too dim to understand the impact that has on people.

I'm not pretending or wide eyed. Their feelings are their own, if people want to deny reality they need to accept that other people will point out the truth, because reality doesn't respect people's individual sensibilities.

Humans cannot change sex. That is a fact.

Yes. but as an intelligent woman, which you clearly are, you must understand that that statement hurts.

Now the fact that you dont care about hurting other people, well thats your look out.

HinchcliffeandMurgatroyd · 11/07/2022 19:21

beautyisthefaceisee · 11/07/2022 19:13

No, i'm calling the fact you thiink other people have pronouns just to upset you wonderfully arrogant.

People can stipulate pronouns if they want, but given pronouns are only ever used about you when talking about you (not to you) it seems a strange thing to be so hung up on if the intent is to establish your social gender identity. Nobody really owns pronouns. Pronouns are a third party kind of affair.

HipTightOnions · 11/07/2022 19:20

"While I don't say it..."

HipTightOnions · 11/07/2022 19:20

While say it deliberately or carelessly to cause offence I have found it necessary to say "humans can't change sex" because children have been encouraged to believe it's possible, and they need to understand that it isn't.

If they were being coached to believe humans could fly, we'd need to put them straight on that too.

RoseslnTheHospital · 11/07/2022 19:20

So, you object to the idea that humans can't change sex being mentioned at all. Because...? It's hurtful to people who believe they have or can change sex? Well tough. And I'm not saying it with any kind of faux anything, no wide eyes here. I'm saying it firmly and deliberately because sometimes sex matters.

If Oli London asks me if I agree that he is Korean, then I would have to say no. If Rachel Dolezal asked me if I agreed that she is African American, I'd say no. If the Lizardman asked me if I agreed he was actually a lizard, well, I'm sure you can guess what I'd say. (Tbf I don't think Erik Sprague actually thinks he is reptilian).

The same people who expect me to refuse to use the word ciswoman at work because it offends them.

Feminists are the ones making all the demands while not giving 1mm to the other side.

none of which are comparable to trans

Well, we all see things in our own way.

CIS = Construction Industry Scheme. Tax scheme for subcontractors. An HMRC term nothing to do with gender.

Next time someone mentions it. You can casually say: "oooh. I'm not self employed subbie but PAYE thanks" and watch the confusion on their little faces.

I say that all the time. It’s the only place I know CIS from.
