... makes no mention of her standing at the Dispatch Box in Parliament saying TWAW TMAM.

Tell us you've changed your mind , Penny, or don't bother.

I have a vote and I’m in ‘the (almost) anyone but Penny’ camp right now.

She’s either thick or duplicitous and my money’s on the latter. I’ll be horrified if she’s in the final two that we get to choose between.

achillestoes · 12/07/2022 15:53

Mordaunt has been accused by officials of not meeting her responsibilities as a trade minister in order to focus on her leadership campaign for the last six months. Embarrassing, given how amateurish her video was.

HatefulHaberdashery · 12/07/2022 14:19

@Ohnohedident I would vote for Kemi - She has the intelligence, the vision, and the guts that we need right now. Clearly a strong willed character and nobody's fool. I think she'd offer a very clear contrast to Labour at the next GE, when the country gets to vote.

I understand people worried about the experience. I was at first, especially the economy, but just found out she was, I think, chief secretary to the Treasury at one point? She's GC as well, and much more pragmatic than Suella Braverman, who wants to get rid of the EHCR.

endofthelinefinally · 12/07/2022 13:33

Penny Mordaunt seems to be doing very well in terms of support from the party.

bellinisurge · 12/07/2022 12:11

I'm not a Tory party member or a Tory voter so I get no say in whether Kemi Badenoch gets to be our Prime Minister. But none of the Labour Party front bench (apart from Milliband and Cooper) has any experience in the Cabinet so her lack of experience in Cabinet wouldn't necessarily count against her. She's been a junior minister.

So, hang on, is this the spoof or the real thing?

Surely this is not the actual ad?

Its nuts 😂

It's the audio from the Penny Mordaunt video over The Day Today video.

achillestoes · 12/07/2022 11:56

Julie Bindel backs Kemi.

achillestoes · 12/07/2022 11:55

@Ohnohedident

As a member you’ll only be able to vote for one of the two leading candidates.

Ohnohedident · 12/07/2022 11:49

I love Kemi but not sure if I should vote for her or Javid? Kemi is very new to politics.

Ohnohedident · 12/07/2022 11:47

I didn't see it,but a lot of people were commenting that it seemed in poor taste ,was like an episode of Brass Eye

I love how the usual suspects have all turned on her for her recent vid.

Just watched Kemi Badenoch's launch. She's doing Johnson's trick of trying to appeal beyond party lines. She should give Mordaunt pause for thought. And probably Starmer too.

Plenty of things in her speech that made me twitch because it was very Tory. Plenty in her speech that scored some strong points.

Hugo Rifkind is also talkign about PM in the Times:

I don't think he grasps the issue really.

He hasn't got a clue. No, women won't go away and shut up, because a bunch of clueless men haven't bothered to find out about GRA Reform, Self ID and its impacts on women, Gay and Bisexual People and Children.

This statement really pissed me off:

"his tortured demeanour of “can’t this question just go away and leave me alone?” probably captures the broad public mood far better than pitiless, declamatory clarity in either direction."

No Dear, when you are trying to reduce women to second class citizenship, belittle homosexuality so lesbians are subjected to coercive sexual misconduct, and teenagers are convinced to sterilise themselves, and lop off physically healthy body parts, its not bloody going away!

The problem it seems, is that Penny and her supporters think her "liberal" views will appeal to young people. Just like Labour, the SNP, the LibDems, and indeed organisations like the BBC.

Trouble is that when it comes to general elections older people tend to vote for grown ups and younger people tend not to turn out. And one day these younger voters will become older and wiser and realise they were gaslit.

teawamutu · 12/07/2022 10:02

Have read the Times today and listened to the BBC - very little mention of Mordaunt, it's all Sunak, Truss, possibly Patel.

Interesting.

.., tells you all you need to know doesn’t it?!

😭

HatefulHaberdashery · 11/07/2022 23:24

The Polls are from Conservative Home, I think everyone should get in on the letter writing to their MP's who are Tory, reminding them that Penny Mordaunt tried to erase the word mother and woman from the Maternity Allowance Bill, and is being called out by Suella Braverman on this.

We're currently getting rid of one MP for his lack of integrity, Tories would do well not to elect another MP who's also a consistent liar, and wants to form policy that will impact loads of women because her brother is Trans Activist.

That’s Twitter though. A while different world in there.

teawamutu · 11/07/2022 21:03

Twitter showing a range of polls putting Mordaunt first.

Worrying.

TooBigForMyBoots · 11/07/2022 20:28

She shifted office and still managed to shoehorn Trans agenda into her departments. She stayed in the Conservative government, promoting TWAW at every opportunity.

I have to say I'm a bit Confused at FWR regulars not knowing this.

Tanith · 11/07/2022 20:18

The Mumsnet webchat demonstrates that it isn't just the TWAW parroting that is Penny's problem.
As I recall, she was supposed to answer questions specifically about women, many of them not about trans at all.
First she refused to appear, then she sent in something that looked like a junior had scribbled it down.
She was invited because, at the time, she was Women and Equalities minister (though I think she may have lost that office by the time her answers appeared).
