WHO - "sex is not limited to male and female".

Point no 3.

Can't wait to find out what the other sexes are. Oddly, they don't appear to name them.

(And do they mean 'going beyond non-binary'? Surely it should say going beyond the binary?)

Whatever, we still have a huge uphill battle.

Biological sex isn’t limited to male or female. There are a very small proportion of people who are neither on a genetic level. Gender is a different debate. At least get that bit right before you start giving out.

Do you have a Y chromasome? Yes? You are male. Did you develop the unambiguous primary sec characteristics of a male? Yes? You are male. NO? You are a male with a congenital difference of sex development.

Do you lack a Y chromosome? Yes?You are a female. Did you develop the unambiguous primary sex characteristics of a female?
Yes? You are a female. No? You are a female with a congenital difference of sex development.

On a genetic level.
On a sex level

Everything else is social conditioning.

It makes NO difference what your Karyotype is. All karyotypes are either male or female karyotypes. They are all known and very well researced

That said, if you have a complete androgen insensitivity/ swyers I think you are female in EVERY way that counts ( except sport, where you are still likely to be overrepresented)

However DsDs do NOT = gender identity,so it is a mute point.

OldCrone · 08/07/2022 21:40

Perhaps they thought this was real science.

WHO - "sex is not limited to male and female".
EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 08/07/2022 21:40

WHO has been like that for a long time.

Calling VAWG a public health emergency on the one hand and denying the material reality of sex in other arenas.

Same as other organisations that call for birth certificates as a human rights issue to make it harder to practice the infanticide of newborn girls or to marry off under-age girls or withhold education from them—yet the same organisations want records of birth to be subject to revision.

It's painful, there many global organisations espouse human rights but are willing to set aside women's rights when it suits current rhetoric.

flashpaper · 08/07/2022 21:32

FFS. This is meant to be the authority on health for the entire planet. As a healthcare worker, I'm bound by their guidelines in every single day of my working life. Throughout the pandemic, I trusted their advice over others, and now this Angry would love to hear from them about what other sexes there are.
It's weird because, at my hospital anyway, there is only one type of person who gets prostate cancer and there is only one type of person who gets a c-section. There is no crossover.

IloveHolby · 08/07/2022 21:24

@BananaPie Still only two sexes, differences in chromosones are still biologically male or female
Sex Abnormalities

There are several syndromes that create sex differentiation abnormalities. Females with only one X chromosome have Turner syndrome, and if the girl survives birth, she will experience abnormal growth and be very small, with extra folds of skin on the neck. Triple X syndrome occurs in females with an additional X chromosome. These are known as super females and tend to be similar to females with two X chromosomes. Men who are born with two X chromosomes and a Y chromosome have Klinefelter syndrome. These men tend to be very feminine and can even have high-pitched voices. XYY syndrome occurs when men have an extra Y chromosome. These are known as super males and tend to produce much more testosterone than typical males.

Conflictedunicorn · 08/07/2022 21:23

Yes they do. If you have XY chromosomes you believe you’re gods gift to humanity and those with XX chromosomes are not.

Circumferences · 08/07/2022 21:23

BananaPie · 08/07/2022 21:22

Oh sorry. I’m genuinely really sorry if I have upset you. I got it wrong. Apologies.

Oh ok.
I'm sorry for taking the piss a bit above there...

Circumferences · 08/07/2022 21:22

But they probably will have a gender

What if a gender critical person has a chromosomal DSD?
GC people tend not to believe in "having a gender".
Do chromosomes influence one's beliefs?! Huge scientific breakthrough there!

Well if they don’t have XY or XX chromosomes they are neither male nor female in terms of their sex. But they probably will have a gender.

This is different to (for example) someone with XX chromosomes who thinks their gender is male. That is a different debate.

You risk undermining your point if you are mixing up gender and sex when there are some people with biological differences which means they are neither sex

No

A male can have a chromosomal abnormality, and a female can have a chromosomal abnormality. They are both still male
or female.

As I have said. People with DSD, the people you are referencing are male or female. You’re being very insulting to them.

nocoolnamesleft · 08/07/2022 21:16

Oh for fuck's sake. To pluck a few obvious examples, people with XO chromosomes are female, and those with XXY are male. People with DSDs are indeed male or female. To suggest otherwise is highly othering, and not remotely inclusive.

LoudingVoice · 08/07/2022 21:16

When DH and I went for ivf, we needed to be a male/female couple, and if we hadn’t been, we’d have needed the other sex as a donor/surrogate to have been able to have the treatment, how do they explain that I wonder if there aren’t two sexes?

Rocking up at an ivf clinic feeling like a gender wouldn’t get anyone anywhere would it?

IloveHolby · 08/07/2022 21:15

Am e-mailing Sex Matters now.

I have no words. Other than FFS. 😡😫

bloodyunicorns · 08/07/2022 21:07

What a load of bollocks. The WHO should ask someone sensible, eg Kathleen Stock, to write this shit for them

continueorterminate · 08/07/2022 21:03

Can I offer "fale" and "memale" as 2 of the alternative sexes?

Conflictedunicorn · 08/07/2022 20:57

People with DSDs are still male or female, so I am really hoping WHO are not insulting them by saying they are some obscure 3rd sex.

achillestoes · 08/07/2022 20:57

‘Biological sex isn’t limited to male or female. There are a very small proportion of people who are neither on a genetic level.’

What is their sex?

😆
Biological sex is absolutely limited to male or female that is how we reproduce. A very small number of people have a disorder of sexual development (DSD) that means genetic testing is required to identify their sex, as it is not immediately obvious from their secondary sexual characteristics.

The WHO and the UN have succumbed to lobby groups and have lost all credibility.

Just the fact that the UN and WHO even entertain the fantasy notion of "gender identity" as some kind of reality is enough to discredit them.

Neither can define so-called "gender identity" beyond how someone "feels". There is no material, measurable evidence-base.
