WHO - "sex is not limited to male and female".

Point no 3.

Can't wait to find out what the other sexes are. Oddly, they don't appear to name them.

(And do they mean 'going beyond non-binary'? Surely it should say going beyond the binary?)

Whatever, we still have a huge uphill battle.

Dear WHO,

Sex IS limited to male and female.

Personalities, gender identities and feelings, however, are not sexes and are not limited to male and female.

MrGHardy · 10/07/2022 13:17

They talk about sex but have gender in the URL.

Humanity's need to belong to an ideology and spread it is probably our worst trait.

NumberTheory · 09/07/2022 18:22

Hope we can have some influence then, Forgotthebins.

Forgotthebins · 09/07/2022 18:12

Sadly reading the call for comment, it is nothing to do with preventing unnecessary surgery and all about gender theories.

luckily this is still at consultation stage and I really hope Emma Hilton, Sex Matters and those policy women in Scotland (BMB??) input to the consultation. Also Alice Sullivan. I really really hope someone at FCDO will respond. I think this is now all on the UK, most other big donors to WHO won’t say that sex matters.

if we lose a reality-based community at WHO then we have lost a lot. It’s fine of course for them to acknowledge the specific needs of trans and non-binary people, but they can’t pretend that political theories about gender have the status of clinical evidence !

NumberTheory · 09/07/2022 17:38

I think the concern here really depends on what they end up printing.

The may go the whole "sex is spectrum and anyone could be anyone, really" gender woo route. But it could also be about making their work on variations of sexual development much clearer. The Who have had a program for years that tries to stop cosmetic surgery on kids whose genitals don't match male or female norms. It has stopped a lot of kids being mutilated or dying from botched operations that were not necessary to their well being and that took away the choice from them for when they were adult. It also reinforced aesthetic ideas about what it meant to be male and female.

If it's this that the rewording is aimed at it's something most GC feminists will be strongly behind.

DoElephantsHaveWrinkles · 09/07/2022 12:36

How don't they understand that they completely undermine any other things they say, when they blatantly misrepresent (or lie) about there being more than 2 sexes.

If they'll lie about this, what else will they lie about? And just who is pushing it?

flyingbuttress43 · 09/07/2022 12:10

WHO has history here. I believe, but please correct me if I'm wrong, that WHO took gender dysphoria out of their mental/psyschological conditions category. Even Blair White, the most transy person imaginable, says it is is a mental condition.

I have done work for WHO in the past and they do have these off piste moments.

Even SRY gene translocation doesn't help the argument. It is STILL not gender identity.

Females are not necessarily feminine, nor do they necessarily feel feminine, they just have no Y chromasome and a vagina.

On an individual level it really is that simple.

I don't need protection from males on an individual level. My sex class needs protection from the male sex class on a population level.

Thank you @Baaaaaa for putting it so clearly and succinctly, wish there was a like button on here!

AlisonDonut · 09/07/2022 08:18

If we cannot trust them on this, pretty basic fundamental scientific fact, what is the point of them existing?

IloveHolby · 09/07/2022 06:48

Hi @BananaPie my post comes after your apology, but when I posted it for some reason the previous posts hadn't refreshed. I wouldn't have posted if I'd seen your apology - sorry.

Coyoacan · 09/07/2022 03:32

@BananaPie You have my total respect.

LordLoveADuck · 09/07/2022 03:27

Biological sex is absolutely limited to male or female that is how we reproduce. A very small number of people have a disorder of sexual development (DSD) that means genetic testing is required to identify their sex, as it is not immediately obvious from their secondary sexual characteristics.

Thanks @EthelbertaChickerel for this clear and succinct explanation.Very, very helpful.

Some people are born ''intersex''. That term is used to cover a wide range of natural variations that affect genitals, gonads, hormones, chromosomes or reproductive organs. The word “intersex” relates to physical sexual characteristics.

This is just a scientific fact.

Nothing to do whatsoever with the transgender debate/gender identity...

People with Disorders of Sexual Development (DSDs) do not like the term “intersex”, as it suggests that they are neither male or female, but between the 2. They are either a) male or b) female - as revealed by their DNA.

It's amazing what an organization will say if their funding is under existential threat: 'The U.S. has historically been one of the largest funders of WHO, providing between $200 million and $600 million annually over the last decade. In 2020, the Trump administration suspended financial support and initiated a process to withdraw the U.S. from membership in the organization, but President Biden reversed that decision upon taking office in January 2021 and restored U.S. funding to WHO.'

KnittingWords · 09/07/2022 00:02

So, bit confused here, so bear with me.

Is the World Health Organisation actually saying that, "sex is not limited to male and female",?

Because is so, the World Health Organisation is wrong. Which is worrying,

In actual fact and in real life, only women can conceive and give birth. Men are physiologically unable ever to give birth, doesn't matter what their gender identity or zodiac star sign. Men are not women.

The formerly respected World Health Organisation is now trans captured, when it spouts such bollocks.

Pallisers · 08/07/2022 22:43

Well done Banana Pie!

I don't know how people with dsds stand this rhetoric. I know a little girl with Turners. Her grandparents and parents would be outraged to be told she is some "third sex". She is a little girl with some medical issues.

Rightsraptor · 08/07/2022 22:31

Please read the thread: Banana Pie has apologised, so can we leave it? I know that hardly ever happens and so we're all a bit 😕 (it says that's a puzzled face - really?)

You've got me thinking of banofee pie now. Gah!

I lost any faith in WHO when they baldly stated that everyone has a gender identity.

JacquelinePot · 08/07/2022 22:31

Came to hear about how badly WHO has lost the plot, came to say brava to Banana for listening to what PPs said about DSDs. Kudos to you Banana, truly, a wonderful thing to see

If you want to know more I can recommend the writings of Dr Emma Hilton aka FondOfBeetles on twitter

Oh. Wow :) How refreshing. That almost never happens( like DSDs ) ... Sorry couldn't help it. Kudos!

Exactly.

MaudeYoung · 08/07/2022 21:58

@BananaPie "Biological sex isn’t limited to male or female."

Yes, it is. There are only two gametes in human physiological development: ovum and sperm.

Female bodies develop to supply the large gamete: ovum; male bodies develop to supply the small gamete: sperm.

In all living species that rely on sexual reproduction for their perpetuation, ie: some plants, animals and all mammals, the female is always the life form that supplies the large gamete, the male is always the life form that supplies the small gamete.

I said sorry. Apologies again.

I think people are more ranting at WHO, not you. They should know better ffs.
