Julie Bindel

You may hate me for this (well, some of you at least, but I cannot BELIEVE that many of you on here are deciding who is good or bad for PM because of the trans issue ALONE. I mean, I KNOW it is an urgent issue, but so are a million other things right now!!

Sharron Davies

I agree with your too Julie. There’s a bigger picture right now with people potentially unable to feed or keep their kids warm this winter. We can keep bringing the sunlight to other issues.

I think so @ScrollingLeaves . They don’t seem to have moved on very much from the 50s mindset of ‘women, know your place’. For a party which is apparently on The left, they do seem to have a lot of right wing conservative values lately.

ScrollingLeaves · 16/07/2022 19:08

It is almost as if they are telling the LWD to get back to their washing.

This is from The Labour Women’s Declaration, who do support women and children’s rights in the face of gender identity ideology.

Labour Party Refuses LWD's Application For Exhibition Stand at National Conference

The Labour Party is refusing these women in their own party a voice. To me this is a form of dishonest theft from the women of this country.

It is also a bullet in their own foot to boot.

Even if the left wing politicians all backtracked and humbly apologised, the fact they have behaved like this to women in the Labour Party and women voters in the country means I personally have switched allegiance forever and now value free speech and thought above everything.
Even if heaven forbid the Tories elect 'TWAW Mordaunt' as PM, it will still be easier to dissent from within the Conservative Party. Most Tories do not believe TWAW.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 16/07/2022 18:28

I wish to know why Labour are prioritising the trans issue over all other issues mentioned.

It is clear that many leading lights would rather remain ideologically pure on this issue even if it risks losing them an election that should be easily winnable. It is more important to them not to give up on trans issues than it is to them to get the chance to form a government which would take action against poverty.

Why?

??? Pretty obviously not, as that’s an openly fascist group, not even pretending not to be, and I am objecting to antifa’s fascist behaviour. Is this really the level of comprehension you bring to a debate?

Oh. I’ve just realised why you insist on #nodabate. Of course!

#nodebate. Obviously essential if you can’t muster an attempt at a convincing argument.

MangyInseam · 14/07/2022 16:03

Yes, Proud Boys or antifa, those are the only options.🙄

ThinkingaboutLangClegosaurus · 14/07/2022 16:02

More of a Proud Boys fan @ThinkingaboutLangClegosaurus?

I see the speed with which some people on this board use it to mainline the far right is not diminishing

ThinkingaboutLangClegosaurus · 14/07/2022 14:22

It is an 'antifa' value. You know, the scary men in black masks who smash things or stand in a glowering line intimidating people. They call themselves antifascist, with no sense of irony or the ridiculous.

I expressed some reservations a few months ago when I saw JB assert, in an interview, that feminism should remain on the left.

It irritates me a little when people talk about feminism "leaving" the left or "remaining" on the left.

I get where they are coming from but feminism IS the left. It cannot detach itself from the left. It is about a group of oppressed people trying to liberate themselves through collective action. That is left politics, whether we like it or not.

That's what women's liberation has always been about. The people who now call themselves left wing, while promoting me-me-me identity politics, need to ask themselves what is leftwing about their current activities.

''Declining to repeat lies is not fascism.
Demanding people repeat lies, on pain of their livelihoods, is fascism.''

This.
It‘s mind boggling how some liberal minded and seemingly progressive people are happy to endorse compelled speech and “right think” when it comes to trans issues.

ScrollingLeaves · 10/07/2022 13:53

@antifascist

based as far as I can understand it on fears that transpeople will enable more men to dress as women to frequent women's lavatories

No. You have not understood very much if this is all you have been able to make out from people’s discussions on this thread, and others.

I saw a discussion on social media the other day where someone kept saying how they didn’t see what trans women were taking away from women.
People explained it, mentioning sports, prisons, refuges - and then that person would just reply: „Why are you mentioning sports? I wasn’t talking about sports!“ and go back to „still can‘t see what is being taken away from women“.

ScrollingLeaves · 10/07/2022 19:18

Has twitter’s policies been changed recently ?

If not. it could be argued that twitter has fascist tendencies, and anyone using it is amplifying its power.

i note that a number of those who habituate this website are emarkably sanguine about leading figures in the gender critical movement amplifying far right views-

I wasn't aware that "farmers are struggling" is a particularly far-right view.

That's literally a 14 second clip with no context at all. It's so out of context I have no idea what the source is
Can you share the full video? I don't trust clips like that, the full video rarely says what the editor has clipped to imply

I completely trust that clips cut from videos that are edited mid sentence are absolutely conveying the full meaning for the original message 🙄

The energy crisis has been known about since I was a child.

Your other points in the post were fair, but the energy prices are out of control.

From Martin Lewis -

Rough Ready Reckoner based on predicted future price cap...

If you pay £100/mth now, from Oct £165, Jan £170
If you pay £150/mth now, from Oct £250, Jan £255
If you pay £200/mth now, from Oct £330, Jan £340
If you pay £300/mth now, from Oct £495, Jan £510

That's my mistake then. I assumed what was meant was a serious lack of energy currently due to decommissioning power stations. Threats of brown outs/blackouts for several years that haven't come to pass yet.

So Holocaust Denial is a feminist value?

Is talking bollocks an antifascist value?

Belovedfool · 10/07/2022 14:55

"So Holocaust Denial is a feminist value?"

Good lord. That's quite a leap you've taken there.

JJTribute · 10/07/2022 14:50

Can you share the full video? I don't trust clips like that, the full video rarely says what the editor has clipped to imply

It's from the most recent The Mess We're In, she's not implying that all gender critical people are fascists but for some it is an entry point into other far-right ideals.

antifascist · 10/07/2022 14:43

There you go with the authoritarianism again, its out of kilter on a feminist board.

I have a simple message" Don't endorse holocaust deniers.

if you do so accidentally . apologise and/or acknowledge your mistake.

"Nonethless I consider giving credence to the views of Peter Sweden to be an extremely serious matter- especially endorsing his opinion about the media and asking what we are going to do about "a media that only shows the news the[y] want to show"

So it's not holocaust denial, but his views on the media you have issues with in this case? If you think his views on the media are wrong, then counter them. Why are they wrong? If you think Davies is wrong about the way farming issues are covered in the media, tell us why. Or, rather, go on Twitter and tell SD why. I don't think farming issues are a main focus of this board.

But you are using the Peter Sweden issue to clobber Davies' views on women's rights without directly addressing those views themselves. You are manufacturing a connection where there isn't one. That's the problem.

You do keep misrepresenting me - I wish you wouldn't
