Maya's blog piece about the Mordaunt MN webchat debacle. Eleanor Scott's blog piece linked within it.

... number of nominations doesn’t matter once you have 8.

ChristinaXYZ posted this spreadsheet link earlier - I'm not sure how often it's updated over the weekend, but apparently Sunak, Truss, Braverman, Zahawi, Hunt, and Badenoch are past the 8-nomination threshhold. Mordaunt has 7, Tugendhat 6, Javid 3, and Shapps 1.

Mordaunt is the only one on the baord who hasn't formally declared candidacy, although they have until EOD Monday to do it. Wallace has withdrawn.

DdraigGoch · 09/07/2022 21:13

Sunak has promised to "call a mother a mother"

Nominations so far:

Tom Tugendhat - 5
Liz Truss - 3 ("women have vaginas")
Suella Braverman - 2 ("[a child born male] shouldn't use girls' toilets")
Jeremy Hunt - 2
Penny Mordaunt - 1 ("TWAW")

As I understand it, only the top two once all nominations are in will be put to the members. It's too early to call.

This isn’t right.

they need 8 (I think) nominations to be “on the ballot”. Deadline will likely be in a few days. Then there is a secret vote for all the Tory MPs. There will be many rounds where the dozen or so contenders are whittled down to 2. Then finally the last two go to the Tory members. Last time round the members vote didn’t happen because Andrea Leadsom pulled out and let TM be PM.

point being, number of nominations doesn’t matter once you have 8.

I do remember her non-appearance on the webchat though!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 09/07/2022 20:42

The Independent let Maya write a piece about Penny Grin I bet that went down well with some of its other "journalists"

Ereshkigalangcleg · 09/07/2022 20:35

I hope every interviewer asks her what a woman is...

We know if she was Labour or Lib Dem she'd be made a laughing stock by the BBC who completely support TRA goals in every way, apart from when they can make female politicians look ridiculous.

TooBigForMyBoots · 09/07/2022 20:27

She was on Mnet a few years ago. It did not go well.🙈

So sick of these women who themselves must have overcome so many barriers to enter politics and know themselves how they have to work twice as hard and be twice as good to be considered even half as competent as their male counterparts and theb they spout crap like this. Its so fucking dishonest. And one day she will wake up and discover that all the women in the room are male. Women who wont have babies or need somewhere to pump, or work whilst going through menopause and all that brings.

She is nothing more than a turkey voting for Christmas. These women are their own worst enemies. Only where they are because of all the brave women who fought so hard befire her.

Anyone who believes twaw should be made to hand over their bank card, be unable to vote, own property or be employed. Maybe then they will realise that its not and will ever be the same. That her rights are only there fir as long as men allow her to have them.

Shes clearly far to stupid to realise shes the sacrificial lamb and there will be another man quick to jump in the second she loses all credibility with stunts like this.

Quite I couldn't agree more. Labour/LibDem/SNP parties have more of these idiotic women than the Tories though. At least the Tories don't have Groupthink as an actual policy.

Penny Mordaunt bears a huge amount of responsibility for Self ID from way back in Theresa May's government. Her TWAW views are, or should be, very well known.

I really hope she wins then!

Horrified to see her stance on women as I felt quite positive towards her before seeing this. Just awful.

Whatwouldscullydo · 09/07/2022 18:43

Why? Do you think they are worrying about identities in countries where women are jailed for having a miscarriage. Or dying if exposure in menstrual huts. Or dying because they have no male guardian to approve medical treatment.

This is all a first world problem. You do realise that transwomen are allowed to remain in the masons after transition. But transmen can't inherit titles..

Sexism continues to exist even when we pretend humans can change sex or that gender trumps sex. Funny that hey

This is genuinely unhinged and I would urge you to seek help.

achillestoes · 09/07/2022 12:47

I don’t think it will work either. Johnson’s reluctance to really grapple with wokery was one of the things that brought him down.

HPFA · 09/07/2022 12:45

For those wondering why she's expected to do well in the contest - a part of the Tory party thinks that she can combine Brexiteerism with being "socially liberal" - thus preserving Boris's supposed electoral coalition and preventing the loss of seats to the LibDems in the Blue Wall.

FWIW I don't think this will actually work.

But it kind of sums up my frustration with the endless debates about "who to vote for". There isn't ANY party that doesn't regard this issue as purely transactional - any of them will change their stance in a heartbeat if they think it will be to their electoral advantage.

We should support those groups working for change within parties but the main focus of activism shouldn't be here.

Ben Wallace isn’t standing.

Oh what a shame

At least Mordaunt has been pushed off top bookie spot by Sunak

Although Wallace was second

I saw on Twitter PM’s brother used to go out with the man who has problems with ribbons, is that right?

Just used google & saw an image tweet of him saying he was nearly engaged to her twin brother.

I'd really rather not, if it's all the same to you Grin
