Snippet

Robert “Bobby” E. Crimo III, 21, is accused of killing 6 innocent parade-goers and injuring at least 30 others after he allegedly climbed onto the roof of a business in the wealthy Chicago suburb on Monday and fired off 70 rounds from an AR-15-style rifle.

He then ditched the legally purchased weapon on the roof so he could blend in with the crowd as he fled during the chaos, Lake County Major Crime Task Force spokesman Christopher Covelli told a news briefing.

“Crimo was dressed in women’s clothing and investigators do believe he did this to conceal his facial tattoos and his identity,” Covelli said. “He was seen on video camera in women’s clothing.”

He may have even donned a hairpiece to complete his disguise, authorities said.

“A wig is not out of the question,” Covelli said.

That's exactly the point pallisers

Men pretending to be women to carry out crimes.

It's not transpeople I'm worried about, its dangerous men and dangerous men using 'looking like a woman' as a disguise.

Transpeople aren't the problem but if men feel entitled to waltz into women's spaces because they can falsely claim to be trans then how do we protect everyone?

This again and again.

KittenKong · 06/07/2022 10:24

And people ‘can’t gawp’ can they?

From the photos up thread it seems less likely he blended in and more likely he looked like one of a class of people who must never be questioned lest we are outcast as bigots.

Yes, this. By donning a wig and make-up he becomes the class of person who can go anywhere and do anything and no one is allowed to challenge him.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 06/07/2022 09:26

Thank you, Samphire. It will indeed be interesting to see how this plays out.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 06/07/2022 09:08

There are pictures in his SM feeds from months ago of him dressing in women's clothes.

Any links?

There's one upthread, a screenshot. But Twitter have already suspended his accounts. An image search throws up a few pictures - Awake the Rapper.

CrossPurposes · 05/07/2022 20:32

Well, she did have that cross dressing killer in one of her books so...

No she had a man who put on a ‘womans’ coat as a disguise. There is a trans character in one of her books and they are just one of the characters (quite sympathetically written actually).

But people don’t want to hear that do they?

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 06/07/2022 09:06

And look... there he is... in all his Twitter glory! I wonder how he will identify when it comes to sentencing?

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 06/07/2022 09:04

MishyJDI · 05/07/2022 19:46

So how would you have stopped this? Ask him for his GRA or if he self identified as a woman? This has nothing to do with trans people, and all do with crazy American gun freedoms.

Such an assumption! Maybe he is trans and dressed up as a man to be violent and went back to his real, authentic self when leaving.

Maybe that was his message!

How can we know?

FunnyTalks · 06/07/2022 09:03

Oops cross posted femme

FunnyTalks · 06/07/2022 09:02

And for the record, it is not feminists always drawing attention to the few bad trans people. It is Stonewall and so called trans allies creating a situation where the trans umbrella is so wide as to encompass a growing number of particularly abusive males.

FemmeNatal · 06/07/2022 08:58

Surely according to the views of Stonewall and others this man actually is “trans”, as the umbrella term now includes any man who chooses to wear women’s clothing.

Of course, he likely no more suffers gender dysphoria or views himself as trans than I do, but if we take the activists at their word, he’s under that broad umbrella.

mrshoho · 06/07/2022 08:54

Reminded of those despicable posters appearing on female bathrooms. What was it we were told?Do not question a person who you feel shouldn't be in there. Leave them alone and mind your own business. No thought whatsoever to the potential harm to girls and women.

This!

Also, let's just take a moment to remember that one of the many lies told about J. K. Rowling is that she is a transphobe because she had a male serial killer character in her most recent Cormoran Strike book who wore a woman's coat to enable him to get close to his female victim, in a busy place at dusk where he wouldn't immediately have stood out as male. Her choice to include this very common ruse used by criminals in her plot was apparently evidence that she believes all trans people are criminals. Hmm

Indeed. And the so-called Cambridge Rapist was arrested in the '70s trying to escape from his final crime dressed as a woman and wearing a long blonde wig.

Just out of interest, because I don't know and I don't want to google and disappear down that particular wormhole just before bed, have any women carried out mass shootings?

Unsurprisingly, very few: www.theguardian.com/technology/2018/apr/04/youtube-shooting-gun-attacks-in-the-us-are-rarely-carried-out-by-women

Yes - it was the inspiration for the Boomtown Rats song "I don't like Mondays" back in the 70s.

PearlClutch · 05/07/2022 23:12

I recall when the Alec McKinney story came out, a lot of obfuscation and denial. News stories getting pulled, nobody reporting on it all of a sudden. And obviously, the fact of McKinney or Crimo, or anyone being trans (or not) doesn't have any bearing on their crime.

The salient point, and the bigger issue is as pointed out above:

We have created a 'sacred caste'.

NippyWoowoo · 05/07/2022 22:59

Tbh he screams 'liberal terrorist' to me. Extremism is toxic no matter which side it's from.

I really haven't read much on this at all as I find shooting in American so mentally exhausting to process, but when I first heard about a shooting on Independence Day I thought it could me some nut trying to make a 'point' about 'freedom' in America.

Ezra Miller vibes.

GertrudeKerfuffle · 05/07/2022 22:21

My first thoughts are that he disguised himself as a woman as the police would no doubt initially assume the perpetrator to be a man - as they overwhelmingly are in these cases - thus giving himself a better chance of getting away.

In the future there may be a time when so many violent crimes have been recorded as being perpetrated by 'women' who are actually male by sex, that the statistics may be so skewed that this kind of assumption wouldn't apply.

EsmaCannonball · 05/07/2022 22:05

Women are constantly being harangued into going against all our knowledge, experience and instincts into pretending that no man would ever perform femininity for nefarious reasons, that the only reason a man would ever do something as humiliating as put on a dress, enter a women's locker room or attend a woman-only counselling session is to become his authentic self. We are told to be safe we must curtail our freedom and never truly relax our guard but that if we suspect that any man has bad intentions we are nasty, uptight and small-minded. You grow up being told never to trust strangers and then all of a sudden you're expected to switch to always taking men at face value, unless you want to be seen as a complete bitch. It's compelled naivety.
