'There is a strong relationship between so-called "gender critical" and islamophobic attitudes. Among people who fully agree that "someone is either a man or a woman and nothing in-between" 50% fully agree that "muslim immigration is a threat to gender equality"'

I would guess almost everyone agrees with the first premise, yes? Sadly, we will never know, as the Twitter person has not shared their sources. Only this highly authoritative looking graph.

Owen Jones IS the patriarchy.

PearlClutch · 05/07/2022 14:52

Speaking of forced teaming, Owen has also retweeted this somewhat confusing 'infographic'. There is no link to the references, but it's curious to consider what new batshit narrative they're dreaming up to smear us with now.

I do wonder if he isn't actually rather thick.

He thinks trans and women's rights can't clash because he thinks TWAW is axiomatic. So its like saying women's rights clash with women's rights.

It could be thickity or it could be desperately trying to force random disparate facts to fit a narrative that becomes increasingly more obviously outrageous by the day.

Today, for example, we have India Willoughby claiming Macy Grey is somehow disseminating Mossad propaganda in homage to Stalin. Or something.

He just sticks to his abstract ideology and calls for unity, reads like an undergrad sociology essay - never even bothers to think how it effects actual women.

I think that’s an insult to undergrads.

MangyInseam · 05/07/2022 14:32

The forced teaming things is accepted in a lot of areas, though - it's very tempting. People do it casually sometimes without noticing, there was a radio story locally to me a few weeks ago about an issue that affected someone, and it was noted that it affected her as a black woman.

It was very weird though because it was just something that could happen to any woman but it was just chance that she happened to be black and not someone from another ethnic group.

But the story seemed to be implying we should consider the issue because it was affecting black people specifically. That's a kind of forced teaming too though quite typical of the CBC here because they have rules about how many of their stories have to deal with minority issues.

Franca123 · 05/07/2022 14:31

Cherry picking your facts much? Wouldn't expect any better level of analysis from thar rag mind.

bellinisurge · 05/07/2022 14:26

Forced teaming is kind of the TRA schtick, isn't it.

PearlClutch · 05/07/2022 14:21

That is some spectacular forced teaming there, Owen, using US abortion issue to beat UK women over the head with. Well done, love. I'll give you a C+ for imaginative causation but points off for forgetting correlation is not necessarily connected at all.

PearlClutch · 05/07/2022 14:20

it is wrongheaded to claim that trans rights and women’s rights are on a collision course.

Are we wrongheaded or are you scared of our womanly arses, Owen, make up your mind, eh

PearlClutch · 05/07/2022 14:18

Is this the 'Owen Jones and the Terrifying Backsides' article?

They asked for responses to the FSS (pity me) article, I don't remember seeing any of them being published.

AlisonDonut · 05/07/2022 13:01

He still has no understanding of any of the issues.

Also, he is a raging transphobe as he doesn't think transwomen are women, and he also didn't say that the Helens were talking about the genocide of trans people...which are the two biggest red transphobic flags of all.

Hoardasurass · 05/07/2022 13:00

kewgirl · 05/07/2022 12:57

He is a total t==t
He hates anyone who does not agree with his insane opinions

lanadelgrey · 05/07/2022 12:56

It is an interesting angle to take especially given Malta and the discrepancy that the Observer’s Rachel Cooke wrote about recently. If I could,I’d feel a letter going in. The Guardian’s letters page has been quite open to GC viewpoints recently

NoToLandfill · 05/07/2022 12:51

We should turn up at the gig. Blue jeans. Black T-Shirts. Everyone with a teeny tiny violin. And just stand there miming playing the violin.

bellinisurge · 05/07/2022 12:51

He's eeking out the last few pennies from his grift before it all comes tumbling down.

IcakethereforeIam · 05/07/2022 12:50

I kind of read the article, tbh he annoys me. This whole lgbtq+ and abortion mashup just put me in mind of the tactic of hitching your cart to a more popular and 'right' cause. As the TQ did with gay and black rights.

I've put this elsewhere on MN, if abortion rights are so important to LGBTQ+ why is Malta (7th on the bounce) the best European place for LGBTQ+? Malta, where abortion is completely banned.

Is he dishonest or just thick?

He is dishonest. And he thinks that everybody apart from him is thick and that if you tell them often enough that something is true/not true they will start to believe it.
