Consequences like this are or course entirely predictable, but no less abhorrent.

I think we are only just beginning to realise the wider implications of all this both for women and girls in the US and around the world.

They're the richest country in the world.

If it was about the babies, they'd be setting up mother and baby centres, making sure no child is born into poverty (3.7 million currently according to a quick goole search), providing early years services, free health care for these children, reduced childcare costs to help mothers back to work, maternity leave and pay, paternity leave and finally banning the guns that kill children.

NO this is nothing to do with the babies.

If it was I might at least understand the decision.

There was an article in the Guardian very recently about women being prosecuted in the UK for suspected 'unsanctioned' abortions (those pesky two doctors), including cases that turned out to be due to natural. I'll try to find a link.

I think that the entire political spectrum in the US will have blood on their hands for this. As I understand it the Democrats could have secured the right to an abortion in the 50 years since RvW, but chose not to.

I agree it's not principally about the babies, I think some of them want to punish women for being sexually available/desirable, willingly or not. I think they'll also be coming after contraception.

What is the reasoning behind it all ? The question I had wondered without more research, was that they need more population growth ?

Misogyny, pure and simple. The wish to control every aspect of women’s lives and keep them subservient.

Hawkins001 the reasoning is control.
Why should women get to make these important decisions. Better to have them constantly pregnant / looking after children so then they won't have any power in society.
Who cares about their actual lives.

They're going for gays/ lesbians next.

They'll be a few genuinely religious pro lifers who care about the babies, but I reckon they're massively in the minority. If they weren't then provisions would be made to make sure these extra babies (and the ones already born ) are properly cared for.

Jesus H Christ

These people that are withholding healthcare from women and children are monsters

LeavesOnTrees · 03/07/2022 22:09

At least she got her abortion. They'll be others behind her who won't.

We'll soon hear of women being sentenced to murder for having a miscarriage.

Babies will be abandoned and women will die or have their lives ruined.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 03/07/2022 22:06

Fucks me off that an abortion is framed as a tragedy and every life is precious. Yeah, except for that little girl who has suffered enough and some sick fuckers would rather force a child to go through with a pregnancy her body isn't yet ready for so they can control women like cattle.

WelshMoth · 03/07/2022 22:04

Stomach churning decision.
They really don't give a shit about females, do they.

Newsletter from Caroline Criado Perez, which you can sign up for free, but hopefully the link works.

She discusses the problems, not just in the USA - there are 35 countries which ban abortion and this impacts safe obstetric/gynaecology care for common pregnancy problems like miscarriage and ectopics. It is a public health disaster for women in these places.

Women in the U.K. need to understand that they shouldn't travel to these places if they are pregnant or could be.

How can the USA government justify this bullshit saying "every life is precious" when they still have death row and executions? Massive hypocrisy.

Slothtoes · 03/07/2022 21:51

What Pearl said.
I genuinely don’t know how they can sleep at night.

PearlClutch · 03/07/2022 21:40

Fuck those who have enabled this. Fuck them.

achillestoes · 03/07/2022 20:49

Yes, this will be the consequence.
