Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

No fan of Jordan Peterson but his response to twitter "banning" him is excellent.

One point he raises in regards to his dead-naming Eliot Page on twitter is the fact that Page's dead-name is on all the movie credits Page did before transitioning. This is an excellent point. Why are those credits allowed to remain?

IMO Elliot Page is a very tragic young person. The pain is palpable.

A living example of the sad fact that you can’t cure psychological misery by chopping off body parts.

My school has a "diversity " display with an image of Eliot before transition up...

Are they banned?

I loved JP until he started wearing a 3 piece suit. He came out of nowhere like an Old Testament prophet. I remember the 1st time I heard him, on PM on R4, and he was a fresh voice. In a way he reminds me of Posie Parker - they are both outliers, despised by professionals, who speak to ordinary people.
But JP is just SO verbose. And his writing is the same.
Plus the ridiculous constant changing of camera angles made it difficult to watch.
I wonder what the coloured pin is for? Probably not Pride.

TheBiologyStupid · Given all that, I'm not sure why Jordan Peterson has got into trouble for using it.

A question I'd like TRAs to answer is why no pride in the dead-name.Why be proud of everything but that?

It's a brilliant video. He really takes apart the whole facade - the total lack of logic, the lies, the narcissism, the corporate profiteering, the moral vacuum and the malign impact on children. I dislike his stance on some topics, but with this he is spot on. And his clear sincerity makes it even more impactful and devastating. I think this video will have a very big impact.

TheBiologyStupid · 02/07/2022 01:44

D'oh - he/him pronouns. They really ARE rohypnol...

TheBiologyStupid · 02/07/2022 01:42

Wikipedia's policies are very woke, but even there it is acceptable to refer to the birth name of someone who has since transitioned provided that they were notable under the original name at the time (for example, Bruce Jenner at the time of his Olympic career). So the Wikipedia Elliot Page article acknowledges her so-called "deadname", although the use of she/her pronouns makes it a struggle to read: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elliot_Page

Given all that, I'm not sure why Jordan Peterson has got into trouble for using it.

Men can afford to make that kind of comment and then say 'I didn't mean it, I was only joking' though. It has no repercussions for them.

I think he can say it more because he's already hated by the people who would not accept a tongue in cheek comment of that kind. I do think women are less likely to make those kinds of sarcastic comments but that seems to be self imposed, at least in part.

I mean, he's been banned from Twitter, so obviously there are repercussions for saying the wrong kinds of things.

I don't really think JP is good at Twitter, for what it's worth. He thinks people will understand where he is starting from, and they don't.

FishcakesWithTooMuchCoriander ·How did you manage to get to a part of the video where he actually starts making points? I lost the will to live after several minutes of words that definitely weren’t going anywhere.

I rather mystified by your response. Right off the bat he discusses how the suspension is actually a ban as he must accept that he committed an offense and remove the tweet to have the suspension lifted. The rest is his questioning what exact offense did he commit

Gogster · Why aren't you a fan of JBP?

A number of reasons, one being I'm not a fan of Capitalism and he is.That said I do respect him for tackling Wokism head-on at great personal expense.

The question wasn't addressed to me, but perhaps it is because he sometimes tweets things like this, from 2017

I think he was making a point about the silence of feminists on this issue, and taking the piss at the same time. It's not serious.

I watched Juno the other night. The movie where Eliot Page played a teenage girl who accidentally got pregnant and then had to agonise over whether to have an abortion or continue with the pregnancy and hand the baby over to a couple who couldn’t have a child themselves. What a universal experience that many young men struggle with.

Zerogravity · 01/07/2022 22:33

I actually do like him - by which I mean I find his books interesting to read although disagree with him on quite a lot. But that doesn't seem to be allowed either nowadays!
