Gender change data to be scrutinised

I am astounded that laws needed to be changed to allow this to happen in the first place.

Who convinced people that either following through on treatment to ensure that it was successful or not having a system to connect two NHS numbers to ensure continuity of data was a good thing for any group of people?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 30/06/2022 07:41

So when someone changes their sex with the NHS to their gender identity they will be issued a new NHS number which will then have a false sex marking number

That makes it harder to do research on long term outcomes post transition, surely.

‘Whilst this is welcome and needs to be done the cynic in me tells me they are not just doing this because they care about the young people caught up in this ideology.’

I think Javid actually does care. He has been really good on this issue.

Noisyprat · 30/06/2022 07:37

Whilst this is welcome and needs to be done the cynic in me tells me they are not just doing this because they care about the young people caught up in this ideology. I think they can see that this could (and us highly likely to) lead to many claims against the NHS.

It will be interesting to see what recommendations and changes are made following the report. Will it actually protect and restrict or will it just ensure the NHS can't be sued at a later date.

Hoardasurass · 30/06/2022 07:33

@MiniTheMinx they are given new NHS numbers because your number is made up of 3 sets of number your DOB, your sex marker(odd/even for male/female) and the number position of child being registered that day. So when someone changes their sex with the NHS to their gender identity they will be issued a new NHS number which will then have a false sex marking number

NotBadConsidering · 30/06/2022 07:22

I'm a bit perplexed about why those who have transitioned are given a new NHS number, that's crazy.

One of the digits, possibly the last one, is odd for males and even for females, or vice versa. So when someone transitions, this digit changes too.

achillestoes · 30/06/2022 07:19

‘I hope they start to think about whether these children have been mentally arrested, as well as physically, too.’

Seems entirely reasonable to think that puberty blockers would stall aspects of neurological and probably psychological development.

NonnyMouse1337 · 30/06/2022 07:19

This shows the extent of the ideological capture of institutions by zealots. I'm very glad this is now being done, but anyone with a shred of sanity realises that this should have happened from the very beginning.
If you're going to be experimenting on healthy bodies, especially of children, then you should have had all the protocols set up in place so researchers could carefully track outcomes to ensure people were getting the right treatment.

Anyway, as other posters have said, the zealots are very confident that experimenting on healthy bodies leads to excellent results, so they should be fully on board with researchers finally being able to show proof that they were right all along.

‘He's a tory. So no.’

Labour aren’t going to stop it.

‘I'm a bit perplexed about why those who have transitioned are given a new NHS number, that's crazy.’

It is. Again, Labour won’t stop it.

Hmm. If they go looking for 'harm' they are likely to find it. They should be studying outcomes, positive and negative. I'm glad that the work will be done though.

They need to look for harm though, to see whether the treatment works, or what the consequences of treatments are, so consent can be informed.

I'm very glad this is being reviewed by Hillary Cass and not Bristol University trans flagged 20 year old blokes.

ResisterRex · 30/06/2022 07:14

This is good news. Javid reportedly tried to get to the data on grooming and make it public but was stonewalled:

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9070905/DAN-HODGES-reveals-inside-story-cover-abuse-young-girls.html

If that report is true then he seems to have decided to make this data interrogation as robust as it can be.

Does this mean there won't be a final Cass Review now ("summer") or that this study will form an add-on to that final review? Or be a separate thing?

Datun · 30/06/2022 07:10

Good. Information can only be beneficial.

I hope they start to think about whether these children have been mentally arrested, as well as physically, too.

I’m calling it: Sajid Javid is excellent, and no embarrassment to us as the next Prime Minister.

He's a tory. So no.

Whatwouldscullydo · 30/06/2022 07:06

Well its the best thing fir the kids in question amd future kids. And they know what they are doing right. Affirmation amd medication is best practice right? So no ones gonna kick off at this because there's nothing to worry about right?

I expect nothing but " we welcome this review to show what we already know we have nothing to hide" statuses

Things feel like they're really moving in the right direction now. I wouldn't mind him for PM, either.

About time. If it helps so many 'trans children' from becoming suicidal, then the results will show this.

I think we all know already though.
